So there I was, sitting on my chair bored looking for new games or videos to entertain me while eating snacks. While in a group call with my friends who are doing their own thing. Suddenly, a notification alerted me of a game that I bookmarked got released.
“Guys! Good news I got a new game to check out,” I then click the notifications and be brought up into the website.
“Which one is it?,” CF speaks up to me while doing some modeling for a game.
“Uhhh lets see…”Searching through the messy list. “Found it, it's called… uh” as I tried to say the name, but kept stuttering and rambling over my words.
“Say it already, you’re making me lose focus on my grind over here!” Merlon angrily shouts, but is very quiet as I set his volume to low
“It’s because it’s not in English, I don’t know why I am even attempting to say it, it’s not even a language I recognize” I then give up on saying it while finishing up my snack.
“Seriously…” CF being disappointed as usual. "Just read the description of the game,”
“Uh let’s see…"scrolling down the page
"It’s a fantasy-RPG-action-sci_fi-magical-shooting-first_person-survival-stealth-virtuality… Goddamn why is it long! I’ll just skip through that paragraph. It says here, "The user will be called out upon by the ISCB to deal with traitors and other Anomalies that are wreaking havoc within. In order to deal with these threats the Administrator will give the proper necessities to finish the job. If the user doesn’t finish the job in time, dies during the job, or has been pursued by the traitors or other benefactors, the user will be classified as a failure, and will no longer be working with the ISBC,”. Scrolling back to the download part of the page and thinking to myself for abit
'Huh, weird that it states it’s the “user” not the player or character and this feels like joining a secret organization rather than playing a game. Also, I just noticed that the game publishing date doesn't even exist despite seeing the browser saying it's a "New Game!" I thought to myself for a moment before CF speaks up and I get rid of my thoughts
“That actually sounds interesting, are you able to share the game with me?” CF being interested he closes his work and goes back to the voice chat.
“Hey! Don’t forget me, I also want to join this. But I can’t stop grinding right now, can you share your screen so I can also see this?” Merlon going back to being calm and less concentrated on his game.
"Sure I can do that, give me a sec…" clicking off the tab, and towards the VC, clicking the option to share my screen.
“There we go, you guys should be able to see my screen," I then go back to the game tab so they can both see.
"Also to answer your question CF, I can’t share the game because there is no share button on this for some reason as you can see on my screen,"
"That's a shame," CF frowns
"Alright, without further ado, I'll download the game now," I then click on the download button, causing it to start.
“Alright it’s gonna take a few minutes, I am gonna go take out the garbage I have accumulated on my desk for the past few hours. ”I then get up and started putting all of the garbage on both hands, while trying not to drop any as I walked slowly out of my computer room and into the kitchen.
While I went to the kitchen, CF and Merlon analyzed the game even more.
“This is probably the most interesting game description I have ever seen. That first paragraph just lists out what kind of game it is." CF is confused and intrigued as it isn't displayed on the genre menu.
Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit.
"But… it's just every game genre that ever exists! Even genres that aren't even possible to mix together are here. How the hell. can family-friendly and at the same horror exist at once!" CF gets even more confused
"Welp, now you actually got my attention, and it is possible. There are a couple of games that go from family friendly to horror" Merlon then gets off the game he was playing.
"If every genre somehow exists in that game, that would mean fantasy, horror, strategy, RPG, romance, adventure, action, sci-fi, sandbox, and platforming exists in one, and that's just me naming a few that are popular and well known. I could go further but I can't count that high in my hands."Merlon showing his hands to the camera.
"Now I really wanna see this game now. Still strange that it can’t be shared, also I think there are a couple of games that have that exact 10 genres that you listed, but I am not sure. ”CF chuckles then relaxes on his chair while grabbing a drink from his mini fridge near him.
After a few minutes of CF and Merlon waiting, I finished cleaning myself up.
“Alright, I cleaned up as fast as possible, is the download done yet?" As I walk in towards the room, while having a drink in my hands.
"You were actually right in time, it was nearly completed as you came into your room," CF then puts away his phone and drink and looks back onto the computer.
"Ok then," the game then finishes downloading.
"Alright I am gonna open it now, let's see what it's going to be, hopefully giving more context what this game is,'' I then clicked on the game icon.
Then as the game loads in the fans of my PC start to make a weird sound, but I just ignore it. When the game fully opens, I am meeted with the title screen and the menu of the game. The background is very bland with only one color, and some simple pattern that is repeating that switches every 10 seconds.
At the same time the name of the game is still gibberish, not even surprising. But what's stranger is that there's only 1 option in this entire menu which is just, '[Who are you?]' pretty weird but not that rare for games to be anonymous nowadays, mainly horror games. Then I put in my username.
'[Your Identity Is Now Renamed To Oxaminite]' then the menu disappeared, including the title.
"Uhhh… Is something supposed to happen? Also" did it just say, my identity was renamed to my username?" Growing a bit concern
While attempting to move my mouse cursor, my screen completely froze and also the inputs of my keyboard and other devices that were connected to my PC no longer received input.
Suddenly the screen went back to normal and all the inputs I spammed registered immediately causing some tabs and settings to pop up. After fixing that up, the game screen then changes and a text pop up appears in the middle.
"Oh neat, new dialogue let's see," I then start reading out loud. "[Everything Has Been Prepared. We Will Now Bring You Here]" then after I finish reading out loud the text disappears and now sitting waiting awkwardly.
"Huh, is something supposed to happen—" my sentence gets cut off as an object of some kind, looking like a harpoon or a spear goes out of the screen and immediately impales me on my head. That of course made me almost get knocked out. Somehow, I didn't faint despite a sharp object piercing my head, probably from the adrenaline and shock, although I am left speechless but my friends weren't, well maybe just CF.
"Holy crap! You got impaled!" CF shouts in panic and in horror.
"Yowch, that's gotta hurt, also how the hell is that even possible? Both an object coming out of the screen and the object being able to impale?" Merlon being more calm, sympathetic and confused than panicking and horrified.
"I am… definitely not gonna be… fine… ah fuck I… spilled my drink," I dribbled all over my words as I am starting to lose consciousness, and swaying on my seat.
I start being slowly pulled towards the screen. I tried to resist for a moment, but I realized that would just make myself get hurt even more or damage more of my brain so I just let it pull me in, and also mainly because I slowly started to not feel my limbs.
After a couple of seconds, I am entirely pulled into the screen, but before that I can faintly hear CF saying something but I didn't know what it was.
———————CF's POV—————————
What the hell just happened? My best friend just got impaled by what seemed to be a harpoon into his head through the PC screen, and I don't even know if he is even alive.
Wait… think positively CF! He is definitely going to be alive. If he is going into a game then maybe there would be some game logic that he is going to be fine? Ya… he's gonna be fine by that perfect logical answer and coping.
Also, Merlon is surprisingly calm in this situation, so I am gonna talk to him to clear my ease my mind off.
"So Merlon, what do you think happened to Oxaminite and how are you so calm?" I then finished up the drink that was put away.
"Oh I am not calm, I am actually freaking out right now, but it takes too much effort to show it, plus that was some matrix or ise-kai some transmigrated into another world type crap, if from my very limited experience in just watching anime and reading novels, Oxaminite should be fine but with a bit of brain damage," Merlon gives a thumbs up.
"That's… a very interesting statement that I will agree on as that I was kind of thinking of that, apart from the isekai portion,"
While Merlon and I talk out our feelings and stress that we got handed over all of the sudden. My PC suddenly went black, similar to what happened to Oxaminite's PC. I then get my phone out and transfer the call to it.
"Merlon, my PC just turned off on its own," while attempting to turn it back on.
"Same thing happened to me here, I think the game Oxaminite downloaded is also affecting our PC's. We should probably step back away from the screen." I agreed with Merlon and we both stood back.
Suddenly my PC turned back on and the background is now just red and yellow and a text pop up saying "[Please Wait]"
"Would you look at that, the game is also communicating to me now as well," I tell to Merlon
"Same thing is happening to me right now,"
After a couple of seconds later, new text were displayed stating:
"[Thank You For Waiting. Please Sit Down. Let's Make A Deal.]" I then instinctively sit down and it seems Merlon did as well.
