Prologue

In a dark room a boy, roughly 18, with short dark blue hair that it almost looks black sat alone in his bedroom. His face, Oval in shape, his eyes were a dark blue so dark it looked black, his nose was sharp but the right size to fit his other features, his jaw toned and sculpted. his toned body and height making him look like what any woman would find 'handsome'.

He sat atop his modest bed, the bed sheets not the softest, but comfortable. Arron clenched and unclenched his fists, making sure he wasn't dreaming. Today was the day...

"Man... I just... Man it really feels unreal..." He said a wide smile creasing his face. His head snapped when his name was being called.

"Arron! Get down for breakfast!" It was Arron's father- well... More like guardian but Arron basically considered him his father, it was the priest of the church he was staying at.

"Coming!" He yelled back as he stood up and grabbed his bag with all his stuff which wasn't that much stuff. He also took a small snack for the way as the journey from this village all the way to Peia where Prism academy was, took about two days at least, for his meals he would get some pocket money from the church for meals along the way.

He jumped down across the stairs skipping all of them a habit of his that he did when he was excited.

"Boy! I told you to stop jumping those stairs! You're gonna break your head one day!" A loud reprimanding voice resounded to his left and he turned to see his little sister, Erica stood with a wooden spoon in her hand her apron on as she glared at him. Arron rubbed the back of his head and smiled.

"I mean it's the day!" Arron said excitedly he didn't have to explain much as Erica shook her head with an audible sigh.

"Just because 'it's the day', doesn't mean you can go around jumping all day long!" Erica scoffed before a second voice came to Arron's aid, the one that called him down before.

"Erica, Give him a break, it's his big day, he's going to the academy after all!" Bentley, his father and Erica's father, while Erica was not biologically related to him. He grew up with her, he adored her and most of all... He loved her, she along with all the other church kids was why he was going to the academy in the first place! It's to better their situation.

"But dad! He still didn't even take the exam yet! And we shouldn't forget the fact that he might fail and straight up be refused!" Erica clenched her fists around the wooden spoon, while she absolutely hated the idea of Arron failing she still didn't want to exclude that possibility, she was just that type of person, while most people would call her a 'buzzkill' or a 'party pooper' she did not care.

"You saw how he handles a sword, you know he's going to pass the test for sure." Bentley chuckled as he shook his head, "Don't be so negative Erica."

"I'm not negative! I'm logical!" Erica stomped over to the kitchen where she kept grumbling to herself.

"Don't worry Arron, Erica is just-"

"I know dad, I know how Erica is like. She might sound cold hearted but I know she wants the best for me." He smiled knowing his sister well, she was just on another one of her worried rants.

Suddenly he heard the sound of small feet against the floor as two small figures padded over to him giggling and laughing along the way. "Older brother Arron!" They both yelled in unison. The twins, his younger sisters, Briana and Diana. The stormed over to him lunging at him almost knocking him over.

"oof! Slow down you two! Hahaha!" He laughed as he returned their hug hugging each with one arm, the two twins were almost carbon copies of each other if not for Diana having dark brown hair and Briana having lighter brown hair, same thing for their eyes. They were the cutest thing he's ever laid his eyes upon.

While Erica was two years younger than Arron, making her 16, the twins were younger by much more, they were 8 years old. "We will miss you!" They yelled as they tightened their hug almost suffocating Arron.

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

"Okay! Okay! You can let go now... I will miss you too..." He said in a strained voice gasping for air when the two little gremlins finally released him from their suffocating grip.

They giggled as they dropped to the floor before they ran off to play another game of hide and seek, disappearing down the corridor. "Do those two never run out of energy?" He rubbed his throat his voice slightly huskier from the lingering strain.

"You don't have to worry about those two. You should worry about yourself." A voice resounded out behind him and he turned only to see a short boy with black hair and dark brown eyes, his face was round adorned with black eyes and thick brows, his nose was small along with his mouth. His younger 13 year old brother, Stanley.

"You've got an exam, go practice or something, or study... Do they not have written exams? Or are you just confident enough in the practical to be able to pass?" Stanley posed the questions one hand on his hip looking up and down at Arron in judgement.

"Don't worry Stan, I got this... I'll figure it out." Arron responded scratching the back of his head. Stanley gave him a blank look and shook his had before walking away, "Not my problem if you fail."

Arron sighed, those were his siblings, none of them were blood related, however each and everyone of them loved each other dearly. They were living humbly and Arron sought to change that, by going to Prism academy and changing their life.

"Breakfast is ready, get over here you reckless boy!" Erica said her fluffy black hair bobbing with her head movements. She was quite the short and petite girl.

Arron ran over and quickly pulled a seat and plopped himself down before grabbing a bowl of soup, Erica frowned, "Eat slowly brute." She reprimanded as she took a seat of her own. The soup that Erica made was one of the best he's tasted, it spread a warmth through his body, the taste comforting and homey like. He's definitely going to miss this.

He took a piece of bread and quickly gobbled it up and went back for seconds after finishing his bowl, "Seriously Erica, you're the best cook." Erica couldn't help but show a smile before she giggled softly as she too started eating her soup.

The others were around them each to their own, she had made plenty so each one can have seconds and even thirds if they were lucky. The twins were particularly devouring their food, it was clear where they got all that energy.

meanwhile Stanley was just eating calmly like any normal person would.

Their dad, the one who took care of all of them, the one who took all of them in their lowest ate slowly as well, not minding how fast they were eating.

"Arron, make sure to take care of yourself along the way." The humble priest said as he sipped his soup, he had an aged look on his face all the hairs on his head were practically grey only a few remained in their original black colour.

"Sure will dad!" Arron beamed a smile at his father along with his siblings, "Everyone! I will make sure to pass the exam and make it into Prism, just as I had trained for all these months!"

Erica shook her head sighing but she eventually looked at him, a relinquished expression on her face, "make sure not to fail big bro." She said finally a small smile on her face.

"Just make sure not to die, I heard they put you up against monsters in that exam." Stanley said calmly eating a piece of bread.

"Do your best big bro!" The twins both yelled out in unison before breaking out into a fit of giggles as they ate their food.

"Don't talk while you eat you two!" Erica reprimanded before she slowly turned to Arron, "Seriously big bro. Do your best..." She said as she sighed, "We'll be waiting here for you."

"I'll send you prayers." Their dad spoke again with a fatherly smile on his face, "Bring light to our faces." He said with a widened smile, he had full confidence in Arron.

"Thank you everyone. I'll be back the next chance I get..." He said as he stood up off the table and walked over to his bag before he picked it up and slung it on to his back. "Bye, see you soon." He said before he walked out of the door and closed it behind him, leaving his family to finish their breakfast. He had already gotten his fill so he took off to where that merchant group his friend told him about would be. He had money to pay and tag along with them, their destination was Peia just like him.

----------------------------------------

Arron walked through the streets until he reached it. The merchant group, his friend told him about.

"Excuse me?" Arron tapped one of the merchants on the shoulder and the merchant turned around, "What is it boy?"

"I was wondering where you guys are heading?" Arron asked simply looking over the many carriages with different merchandise and other things.

"Peia, why you wanna know?" He turned to Arron raising an eyebrow as he dropped a crate inside of a carriage.

Arron smiled as he spoke once more, "I want to tag along, I got the money to pay you. A few silvers are enough right?" Arron said his smile widening excitedly.

"Yeah, that's enough boy. Let's go, I'll check in with the leader." He said before he walked up to a tent and walked inside.

After a few minutes the merchant walked back out and nodded at Arron. He pointed at a certain carriage that mostly held merchandise. "Over there, you'll have to sit there since we don't have much space inside." Arron beamed and handed over 3 silver to the merchant before jumping into the carriage. He didn't care where he was as long as he arrives at Prism...
