Chapter 4 Demon sightings?

Chapter 4 Demon sightings?

Resnora Liaharice. Once you hear that name you immediately recognize it, especially if you were a mercenary. The stromweaver knight, the thunderous monster, the crackle of a thousand lighting strikes forged into a weapon in human form. Most who face her almost never get to see her weapon, the crackle of her weapon may as well be the last thing you ever hear if she were foe. Her feats include participating in the latest demonic stampede and getting close to slaying a dragonborne, which none have succeeded in for 500 years. She might as well be higher than SSS- rank...

However, what few knew was that she had a daughter... A daughter from an elf, rumour has it that the father had some unfortunate event happen to him and that he had left a daughter for Resnora to care for. He was most likely the reason Resnora had never shown a smile to anyone after...

"Miss, Resnora. There is a disturbance in the back of the convoy... There seems to be a wild animal attacking the adventurers!" A mercenary cried out as he panted. His gold badge shone in the campfire light.

"Watch your to-" A platinum ranked mercenary attempted to interject only for Resnora to hold up a hand stopping them.

"Why do you think a single wild animal is worth my attention?" She asked tilting her head to the side. She wasn't angry, irritated or any of that. She was merely curious on why this gold ranked mercenary who should have experience was calling for her aid.

"W-well..." The mercenary took a step back in hesitation, Resnora's monotone was really making him nervous. His eyes flicked to the side avoiding her gaze. He leaned in to whisper in her ear, "Well... Some of us think it's a demon... Because it's really putting several platinum ranked mercenaries to work..." His voice was low as to not alert any adventurer of the situation.

As soon as Resnora heard the word demon she grabbed the gold ranked mercenary by the forearm. Her veins pulsed on her hand as she tightened her grip. "Are. You. Sure." He tone didn't change, but it carried a dangerous hint to it with how slow she spoke.

The mercenary clenched his jaw as he tried his hardest to pry his arm from her grip. He was unsuccessful. He nodded frantically as his forearm felt like it was breaking under her iron grip.

Resnora let out a sigh before she let go of his arm, seemingly relaxing. The other mercenaries watched on in confusion and slight hesitation at Resnora's strange behaviour. "Uhm-"

Crackle*

The sound of thunder clapping reverberated and in Resnora's place was scorched earth, the grass was gone and a small crater appeared. She disappeared from sight shocking every single mercenary in the area. The gold ranked mercenary's eyes almost bulged out of their sockets as he collapsed down to the floor, his breath quickening and his heart beating rapidly.

----------------------------------------

On the other side of the convoy. The mercenaries were slowly being overwhelmed by this strange creature. It didn't match the description of any monster in the mercenary guild's catalogue. It was a large bear, larger than the trees around them, it's eyes were red in colour. Two curved horns protruded from it's from head and curled around it's ears. It's tail wasn't that of a normal bear but it looked bony and spine like, no skin encasing it.

The bear slammed it's paw onto the ground, smashing the rocks beneath into dust. "W-what the hell are we supposed to do?! We can't hold back this thing!! We have to run-" A mercenary attempted to shout before a pink fleshy tendril stabbed through his chest silencing him and lifting him up into the air as he gasped and looked down at his impaled chest in shock.

The pink tendril was protruding from the bear's back. Okay, this thing was definitely not normal. "We should-"

Crackle*

The loud sound of thunder clapping resounded twice simultaneously, and the bear was.... "Gone...?" A mercenary asked lowering his blade in confusion. He immediately brought it back up as he remembered that he cannot lose his focus. It may be a trick by this wicked beast...?

"Wha- It's Resnora!" A mercenary shouted as he pointed at the tanned lady with curly brown hair that had a spiky edge to it now that lightning crackled around her. "W-where is the bear-" The mercenary gasped as right next to Resnora's feet, was the same bear's decapitated head. It's body was nowhere to be seen. The only evidence that it was ever there were the trees it had destroyed. Not a single drop of blood was left from it...

Resnora's expression was schooled, her gaze never breaking from the dead bear's head. She waited...

Her sword whip like weapon held in her hand tightly, her chainmail armour crackled with electricity. Her eyes then widened when from the bear's neck oozed a black viscous liquid. It looked like blood but pitch black.

Resnora's features hardened before in a single crackle of her whip blade she erased any last tracks of this foul creature from the earth. "Impossible... All the way over here?" Resnora looked around at the green forest her eyes scanning the area as if looking for any evidence of allies of this creature. when she found none she sighed and she sheathed her whip blade. The weapon retracted back into a normal sword shape that resembled a saber when she charged it with electricity.

"This... This couldn't happen on it's own... There has to be a third party..." She mumbled under her breath, she turned her gaze over to where the bear came from, and there, a path of destruction. Grass torn out, scorch marks littered the ground, dirt flung around and trees destroyed. The source having been the demonic bear thing that Resnora killed in an instant.

She glanced around at the destruction, several bodies littered the ground, mercenaries of all ranks. This thing was strong enough to even beat A ranks... She sighed before she glanced back the platinum ranked mercenary who was still standing in shock. He was a platinum rank, he had seen death all around so he wasn't shocked that his co-workers died, he was shocked at Resnora's display of power.

Once she fixed him with her icy stare he froze in fear of what she might do to him. While he knew that she was on his side, deep down he was afraid of how much power she has, that in a single moment she would go mad and attack them, or obliterate the whole convoy...

"You, tell the convoy leader to distribute my pay to the mercenaries... I will leave prematurely and we are almost to our next destination." Resnora ordered her cold icy stare lingering on the platinum ranked mercenary.

"W-what?! B-but miss-"

"I don't care what you have to say. Take the money." The mercenary blinked and found Resnora right in front of him, her eyes looking him up and down. "You're a mercenary, all you care about is meaningless wealth. Take the money and don't complain." He eyes narrowed as a scowl replaced her expressionless face.

"I-I..." The mercenary gulped as Resnora roughly released her grip off of him, her glare lingering on him. "Yes ma'am, I will inform the... Convoy leader..." He lowered his gaze trembling in his boots. Suddenly a loud thunder clapping like sound reverberated right next to him and he had though that he died.

He flinched covering his face with his arms as he cowered in fear. He slowly opened his eyes only to see empty space and the earth scorched right next to him, streaks of electricity jumping from rock to rock. "..." He let out a long breath that he didn't know he was holding before he chuckled a nervous laugh. "Th-that's right... If you hear it, then it's not meant for you..." He continued chuckling nervously to himself. The fear lingering even as he chuckled.

----------------------------------------

Thunder reverberated around Resnora as she appeared at the end of the path of destruction the demonic bear left behind. Electricity crackled around her chainmail armour, her breastplate glowing, charged with electricity. She had her armour custom made so she didn't destroy by simply moving...

"What the..." Resnora's eyes widened when she was met by the sight of a... Forest... A normal forest, no destruction, no flames, no torn out grass, no blood. This was where the bear came from. It was impossible for many reasons, the demonic bear was giant, its aggression simply couldn't allow it to walk through the woods without attacking every moving object.

It was like the damn thing just appeared out of nowhere. "This is serious... I need to contact them..."

"Tanya's going to have to take a look at this..." Resnora's face hardened, her brows furrowed into an ugly look. "Why are there demons in the middle of the stellar empire?" Was all that echoed in her mind at the moment.

Her days back in the latest demonic stampede flashed before her eyes. So many lost, so many missing, but not many know the truth...

"It looks like they're finally making their move..." Resnora sighed, "This is giving me a headache..." Resnora pressed two fingers to her eyes as she groaned.

"Maybe it isn't so bad... The gang is going to get back together..." A small rare smile creased it's way onto her face, she tilted her head up looking on at the blue beautiful sky, "This is going to change very soon..." The smile immediately disappeared off her face.

That hellish place... I wish it to disappear... No gods can make it disappear... gods, such a powerful concept yet nothing can be done about the nether plains.

If someone were to hear what Resnora was thinking, they would admonish her, curse her, disregard her words as blasphemous. But once someone really thinks about it, she's sort of right... Well in her own view.

"I should go now... No need to delay things anymore." Resnora pursed her lips before a thunder clap reverberated through the forest sending every bird out of the trees if the demonic bear hadn't already done it... She left a scorched area where she used to be, electric streaks danced around in the now charged rocks.
