Arron continued walking through the the forest arriving at a clearing. He looked around him raising an eyebrow he was lost, it's been almost 10 minutes and he still didn't find anyone.
He looked around him huffing in frustration, he decides to continue walking.
Arron kept walking for what felt like eternity for him, until he finally spotted a person, "Yes! finally! Someone! Hey you! can you tell me where..." He paused and took a look at the 'person' he saw and his eyes widened as the person's silhouette dispersed into thin air.
"What the hell?" He looked around him and finally noticed it, there was mist... There was mist encroaching on him slowly fogging up the horizon.
He could now only see a few feet in front of him, "Why is there mist? Isn't this supposed to be a tropical island?" He scratched the back of his head and he decided to continue walking forward even if he's blind right now.
He continued walking forward before a clearing in the fog could be seen, he excitedly ran towards it before he emerged in a clearing, he was back in the beach side, but now there were several people with him.
"What?" He was confused.
"Arron! over here!" Amanda called over to him her face smiling as her feet padded on the sandy beach running towards him.
"Do you know what's going on?" She asked and Arron shrugged, "No clue."
"It's pretty obvious if you ask me," A third voice was heard as another person emerged behind Arron, it was a familiar feminine voice Regina walked closer to them, "It's a demon attack."
"What? why would that be the first option?" Arron asked tilting his head meanwhile Amanda put a hand on her chin in deep thought.
"Because the demons are trying to kill you, you aloof squirl." Regina spoke as if it's obvious, "You're the prophesized hero, they'll want to kill you no matter what." Regina finished and Amanda looked at Arron in surprise.
"You are?!" She asked in surprise and Arron tilted his head confused.
"I am?" He asked pointing at himself.
Regina slammed a hand on her face and sighed, "forget it man..." She waved him off dismissively, "Just be careful, I think they're trying to gather us up."
Amanda opened her mouth to speak, she wanted to take this chance to apologize to Regina but she couldn't find the words, "Listen... I'm sor-"
"I said forget it." Regina crossed her arms looking at her, "I don't care about the diary thing anymore." She said waving a hand.
Amanda was about to insist on her apology but then she paused, her eyes widened and she exclaimed, "You are?!"
"Yes, what's the point of being angry at you for reading a few pages of a worthless book? I get that you're curious about my past and all, I just wish you asked me instead of going on to read my diary. Do better next time." She gave Amanda a smirk and Amanda had a happy expression on her face, she took Regina's hand in hers and nodded enthusiastically.
"I promise! I'll do better! Thank you!" She said her eyes shining like stars.
"Yeah, whatever..." Regina had an awkward smile on as she tried tugging her hand out of Amanda's grip.
"What's up guys." Suzi waved at them walking towards them.
"Hey Suzi." Arron waved a hand at her, "So where are the others?" Arron asked her.
"Oh, Evelyn's right here, Evan I eliminated him, he's not here. I don't know about Adam though."
"I'm over here." Adam's voice reverberated grabbing everyone's attention, "I got lost in mist, what's going on?"
"Yeah everyone got lost in mist, Regina thinks it's a demon attack." Arron said pointing at Regina who's face was unreadable, her arms were crossed and she looked away when Adam looked in her direction, he smiled awkwardly.
He still remembered Regina's drunken state and he bet she did as well...
"It's a demon attack, don't be too lax." Regina spoke up holding up her dual axes, "Notice how the drones are gone?" Regina pointed out.
Adam nodded in agreement.
Suzi tensed up and took her stance ready to act.
Regina's eyes flickered towards the supposed 'students' that were also with them in the space, her eyes shone as she frowned "All those other students over there..." She grabbed everyone's attention, "They're all fake... Mist they're made of mist, wait is Evelyn still over there?" Regina's eyes widened when she felt a hand on her shoulder she was about to swing her axe at whoever was behind her when she saw a glimpse of her blue hair in the corner of her eyes and she recognized her.
"You scared me, don't do that again I almost attacked you." She sighed and turned to her Evelyn had a stoic expression as always.
"You said those students are fake?" Adam asked, "Then we're the only real ones here?" Adam asked turning to Regina who nodded.
"Yes."
"What should we do?" Arron asked holding his sword up.
"We should hold our position and observe for now..." Amanda said her rapier in hand.
----------------------------------------
"What is going on?!" The control room was thrown into chaos when all of the screens turned to static, the elimination room was flooded with students that were expelled out for no reason.
"Did the arena malfunction?" The professors continued panicking trying to understand the situation.
"The princess! she's not there! we did the head count there are at least 7 students missing!" A professor slammed the door open panting heavily.
"What should we do?! We lost connection to all the drones! there's a magical signal distortion!"
"I've seen enough, I'm going in." Reyna stood up off her seat her wings unfurling glowing brightly, golden flames flicking off of them.
"Principal, you can't! the barrier of the arena won't allow you to go in! you'll have to destroy it!" A staff member tried to warn her but Reyna had already made up her mind.
"I'll destroy it, this is very obviously well organized, it's a demon attack." Reyna said her face turning disgusted at the word 'demon'.
She walked out of the room and jumped up blowing a hole through the ceiling darting straight towards the arena.
Reyna slammed her conjured weapon into the barrier of the arena however to her astonishment and awe, it held up without even a scratch, "Incredible, so this is what prism is capable of building... Looks like all that money my brother pumped in here didn't go to nothing." Reyna continued pounding into the barrier slashing and hacking at it.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
"This will take at least a few minutes..." She mumbled in frustration casting spells left and right trying to break a hole in the barrier, with how strong the barrier is it begged the question. How the hell did the demons get in?
----------------------------------------
Regina unlike the others could see through the illusion clearly since she was a great illusion mage, she could see that those other students weren't real. Just as she could see that 'Adam' was not actually Adam.
She just acted like everything was fine so she could get a good jump on this guy, now that his back was turned to her she had the perfect opportunity to grab Arron's sword from him and stab 'Adam' in the back.
Arron's eyes bulged seeing Regina's action just as all the others turned to her in shock and horror, Regina drove the blade deep into this 'Adam's back going straight through where his heart was supposed to be.
"Who the hell are you huh~?" She gritted her teeth as she kicked the imposter off the blade and onto the ground she prepared to drive her blade into his skull before she was swept off her feet and tackled to the ground 'Adam' smirked as mist oozed from his skin blinding everyone.
Once the mist dissipated Regina stood up rubbing her head, she looked left and right her friends were pointing their blades at her warily their eyes wide in shock at the surprising turn of events.
"What?!" She turned to the right only to find an identical version of herself which had the same expression, of course she could see through the illusion, this was a demon. Specifically a mist imp.
"What?!" The identical clone repeated, "That's not me!" The two said simultaneously confusing the group even more.
"Guys! you have to trust me! It's her!" Regina pointed at the imp with her axe.
"How the hell are we supposed to tell the difference?!" They turned left and right trying to discern which is which, Regina had had enough she grinded her teeth slowly turning towards the imp which was acting innocent taking her identity and trying to confuse her friends.
"Fucking hell! Stay back you all! I'll take care of this!" She yelled as she lunged at the imp tackling it to the floor, she gripped it's neck tightly as it tried to fight back, clawing at her hand. Of course to the others it looked like Regina was fighting another Regina and the situation got even more confusing, if their Regina was the one on the floor then they should interfere... Right? But if their Regina was the one winning then they would ruin her chance at winning if they interfered...
"What the fuck is happening?!" Suzi cursed even her enhanced eyes weren't good enough to see through the misty illusion made by the imp.
Regina continued choking the imp which was thrashing around in her grip, the imp got a good position of it's feet on her and kicked her away, Regina tumbled back and she reached for one of her dual axes which she dropped on the floor before, unfortunately the imp got a hold of the other one.
Good for him. Too bad I know how to use it better~~ She lunged at the imp slashing with her axe and she was met by the imp's own axe as he stumbled back, Regina capitalized on this and kicked it in the solar plexus dropping it to the floor and she pointed her blade at it in triumph.
"Guys! Help! The imp got me!" The fake Regina stammered trying to gain the pity of the others and it seemed to have worked on Arron who was a little less on the bright side.
"Arron, stop, Regina knows how to use her weapons it's obvious that's the real one." Amanda put a hand on Arron's shoulder stopping him from moving, the others seemed to realize this as the triumphant Regina stepped closer.
She swung with her blade decapitating the imp dispelling the illusion and showing off it's true form, short with stubby legs two long horns sprouting from the forehead and extending upwards vertically, red skin with black markings.
"An imp, this little shit tried to act like Adam. How the hell did it know Adam was our friend... It shouldn't have been able to take on Adam's form if it's never seen him before..." Regina put a hand on her chin in deep thought.
"That was close... I can't believe we were so close to a demon without our knowledge..." Arron sighed wiping sweat from his forehead, while the encounter wasn't physically taxing on him since he barely moved. But it was nerve racking...
"Interesting... Very interesting..." Regina kept mumbling under her breath.
"Interesting?! That thing tried to steal your identity! What do you mean 'interesting'?!" Suzi yelled out in exasperation at Regina's calm attitude.
"Well you see imps should not have the ability to... Look into memories, that means one thing... The attack isn't done yet stay vigilant there must be demon that specializes in mind magic that can see our memories, it must have had the imp disguise itself as Adam with the knowledge of our memories..." Regina explained as she used a stick to poke at the demon's corpse.
Evelyn nodded simply, Suzi was already tense from the encounter and hadn't yet dropped her defences. Amanda had her rapier up and Arron nicely requested his sword back from Regina who gave it back reluctantly.
Regina picked up her dual axes and strode forward, "You'll have to rely on me with this one, I'm the one that has most experience with illusions like this. Although mist illusions are a little different from the ones I use illusions are still illusions." Regina rested an axe on her shoulder the other slumped to her side.
She turned back towards them and smirked, "Let's go-" She was interrupted as a something stabbed into her leg, Regina looked down at the source of pain and her eyes widened, seeing the tendril with a spike at the end stabbing into her shin.
Everyone's eyes widened and Amanda jumped forward trying to get a hold of her but Regina was already being dragged away, into the mist, her dual daggers fell to the floor as she clawed at the sandy beach trying to get a hold of herself but failing miserably.
"Fuck! No matter what! Don't get separated!" Regina let out her last parting words as she disappeared deep into the mist Amanda yelled after her, "No!"
Arron tried to chase after her but he was too slow he only managed to distance himself from his friends, suddenly one of the same tendrils that took Regina away stabbed into his shoulder but this time they were quick enough to react, Suzi slashed the tendril with her claws as it thrashed and disappeared back into the mist.
"Get back! We can't get separated!" Suzi grabbed and tugged him along running back towards the others.
Arron ripped the bone spike out of his shoulder wincing as he ran back towards the others, his sword held tightly in his grip.
"We need to tread carefully... This thing is all around us, we can't afford losing anymore people." Evelyn the usually quite one spoke some sense as she created a forcefield all around them, to protect them from any attacks from that tendril.
"We are going to take slow steps forward... Can you move the barrier? Evelyn?" Amanda turned to Evelyn for a moment and she nodded.
They were four now, Evelyn, Arron, Amanda, And Suzi they walked forward each one of them facing a direction, their backs pressed against each other while they moved. They were on high alert as Evelyn moved the barrier with them.
An small blue clawed hand jumped out from the mist to grab them but it was repelled by Evelyn's barrier. Evelyn used this chance and created a spike out of the barrier to catch the hand, "It's another one of them." She said as the blue imp's chest was impaled by another spike erected from the barrier.
"Careful there are a lot of them." Suzi spoke up her instincts flaring, a low growl escaped her throat.
"How many?" Asked Amanda as she used mana cloak, she had gotten so good with it, it became like a mode that she can tap into whenever she pleases, her body glowed brighter and brighter. And the uncomfortable restrained feeling in her middle back returned as well. WHY ARE THE SUITS SO TIGHT?!
Amanda's frustration flared combined with her situation surrounded by mist that has demons in it, she was quite angry it's safe to say.
"Watch out!" Arron tried to warn her but she was already slashing through the air cutting off the head of a demon that managed to break Evelyn's barrier, Amanda looked at her hand slightly wide eyed, she did not know that demon was there her body moved on it's own.
Arron was slightly taken aback by Amanda's reaction time, "Okay...? Looks like you got it handled." He said taking his position again.
Arron slashed at another imp running at him cutting off it's head in one go.
"They're starting to swarm us..." Suzi spoke crushing the skull of one as she kicked another one away.
"There's too many! We'll get overwhelmed!" Arron screamed while cutting off two imp's heads simultaneously.
"What do we do?!" Suzi yelled out loud.
Evelyn seeing their dire situation let out a long sigh, "I might be able to get us out of here... But it'll be straining..." She said as she blasted an imp away with a hammer.
"Just do it! we have no other option!" Amanda yelled not having enough time to be happy about Evelyn's words.
Evelyn started glowing bright pink. A pink bubble similar to the barrier she had made before surrounded them but this one seemed different it was more rubbery like an actual bubble instead of a barrier.
She lifted her hands up veins bulging on them as all of them were collected up and lifted into the air successfully escaping the imp swarm.
Evelyn's chest heaved up and down from exertion, she cannot keep it up for long...
They managed to reach a good height where they were above the mist, and looking down they saw a clearing in the mist that had to be artificial it was dangerous and foolish to go there as the one that made the mist is the one that most likely created that bubble where the mist is gone, but they needed a bigger area to be able to see while fighting. They had no other choice.
And so with an extremely straining move Evelyn launched the bubble straight into the clearing. Once they landed they rolled on the ground a few times as Evelyn didn't have the leisure to make the landing comfortable.
All of them stood up wide eyes still panting readying themselves for a fight, except for Evelyn she was still recovering from the straining move of picking up that many people.
Except they never got one, the imps seemed to avoid this place...
