1. Prologue

Have you ever wished that all your problems would just disappear?

Or wished that you could just start a new life?

I wish for both of those things, all of the time.

Terrible luck has followed me since the day I was born. No matter where I try to escape, the misfortune never left. It found a way to ruin anything and everything.

Here’s a lesser example: On my ninth birthday, I got an adorable dog. It was the cutest thing, pretty eyes and gorgeous brown fur. I named her ‘Coco.’ That next morning while walking her, the leash broke and Coco ran out into the middle of the road...She was flattened by a passing truck. But this wasn’t the worst thing to ever happen.

One time, a stray bullet came through my window and struck me in the shoulder. Any higher, it could’ve hit my neck. This fact still kind of scares

Then, there was that one time I went camping with my friends in high school. That night, a bear rampaged through our camp, destroying our tents, along with everything else.

Eventually, I grew tired of all the misfortune. I was done. As soon as I turned 18, I moved away from town and headed to the big city. But... my bad luck followed. Week after week, I was working a different job.

Beep! Beep! Beep!

The constant noise of my alarm clock filled my eardrums, shaking them to the core.

“Ugh! Why dOEs it have to be so LOud?”

As I sat up, my eyes caught sight of the time.

[ 7:30 A.M]

This wasn’t GOOD! Not at all!

“Oh no...I’m going to be late for work!”

I sprung out of bed, tossing my blanket aside. If I didn’t make it to my new job on time, it wouldn’t be a good look for me. I absolutely couldn’t be fired again...especially not on the first day.

Bump!

My toe bashed into the corner of my dresser.

“Frick!”

Then right after that, I ran face-first into my room door. My hand covered my face out in agony.

This day was ALREADY going bad.

On the way down the stairs, my foot slipped off the edge. My body tumbled down each and every step, till I hit the bottom. By then, my head was spinning.

It was challenging, but I managed to wobble my way into the living room. And If things couldn’t get any worse, there was a crackling noise coming from the ceiling.

“Huh? What’s that?” I looked up.

The ceiling fan detached and bonked me over the skull.

It goes without saying... I was late to my job that day. Because of that, my manager pretty much fired me on the spot.

I couldn’t believe it...On the very first day, I was fired without mercy.

I hate this so much’

When I returned home, I sat on my bed and wrapped myself in a fluffy blanket. Quietly, I sat there in my room that was dim like a cave. All I could do was reflect on my incredibly terrible, no good, very bad luck.

Never. Never. Never.

There was never a normal day of my life. Not even once. Problems always found a way to happen.

“This is just ridiculous…”

Slumping over on my bed, I felt a single salty tear run down my face.

There was one wish in my heart at that moment.

“I wish I would just disappear.”

My eyes slowly shut, and I guess I fell asleep.

Before I knew it, a ray of sunlight shined on my face, waking me up.

Eyes squinted; I use the back of my hand to shade myself.

“Ugh...Did I forget to close the blinds?” I murmured.

A cold breeze swayed past, gently touching my skin. The chirping of birds came from overhead. In the sky, flock of birds passed.

But...How was I able to see the sky in the first place? Where did my roof go?

My eyes widened; my pupils shriveled up. When I sat upright, the realization set in. This wasn’t my house.

In every direction, I was surrounded by pine trees and wildlife.

“...This is a forest...”

I was in a dang forest!!
