Amarok's curse
Chapter 9: wisdom

Chapter 9: wisdom

"Looks like he still needs some work before we can consider a marriage," Elder Dorn said with a smile. He, too, didn't understand how the cheetah could still stand after that fourth strike. The flow of the seven rivers was a Rune extremely wild and violent; its power wasn't something anyone could handle. If Agris could use the seven waves, even he would have to be careful.

"I'm tired, uncle, can we leave?" Lyra suddenly asked. "Why are you in such a hurry, Miss? Please, let's wait for Master Agris," the town Lord said. Lyra frowned, but for some reason, Elder Dorn caressed her head, signaling her not to throw a tantrum. This was their host in Wandleaf.

"Kill it now; we don't have the whole day," said Alden City Lord's guard. He was the one in charge of Agris's protection and also the second strongest person in Alden.

Agris was sweating heavily; his previous striking and flashy attacks were no more. The cheetah's eyes were literally burning. Amarok had never left from the beginning to the end. No matter how Agris struck with his sword, the cheetah would not flinch and countered. Agris frowned as he stopped and returned to the group.

"It wasn't easy, but it finally gave in," he said in a timid voice. What was supposed to be a few minutes of glory for him had turned into an external struggle. Agris said the cheetah was dead, but many knew it wasn't the case; they simply didn't dare to say it out loud.

"Good job, Master Agris; let's return to the manor; the banquet will be held today," the town Lord said. "Yes," Agris reluctantly acknowledged and took big strides as they left. Before the group departed, amidst the group, Lyra gazed behind as if sensing someone looking at her, but she saw no one.

Once everyone left the venue, Amarok approached the moon cheetah. It showed its fang, signaling it could still fight. Amarok's heart ached as he caressed the cheetah fur; tears trickled down his face for an unknown reason.

A little figure jumped out of the moon cheetah fur into Amarok's arms. He smiled bitterly; everything became clear now. He bowed at the now lifeless body of the moon cheetah. He had learned a very valuable lesson from its struggle.

So what if he was cursed by birth? So what if no one had ever found a cure? So what if the King found out about him and tried to kill him? So what if the world was against him? To hell with all of that. He wouldn't sit down and wait for death; he was going to fight. An inexplicable faith rose in his heart.

"I will find a cure," he said with determination. The little cheetah in his hand looked at him with puppy eyes. It was exactly like its mother. It had blue eyes and a dark moon fur. It was extremely soft like a cushion. Its little claws still looked nothing menacing yet. But unlike its mother, it had a tail, which was strange. "I am going to call you Wisdom, in respect of what I learned from your mother today," he said. Wisdom opened its little mouth, biting Amarok; nothing painful, it looked like it loved the name.

Amarok returned that day with a moon cheetah cub. "What the hell is that, Amarok? A moon cheetah?" Neo was speechless as he quickly asked, trying to approach it. But Wisdom glared, its eyes flashing with anger; it stayed in Amarok's arms.

"Yes, Master. It's Wisdom, my new friend," Amarok then explained what happened. Neo nodded; he too was fuming with anger because of Agris's action but also because of the stare in which they had left the golden garden. If it was not for the fact that he was Alden City Lord's first son, Neo would have asked for compensation. The next few months were going to be very hard for them because of it.

"That bastard; he will not get away with what he did to Wisdom's mother and the golden garden. He will pay," Amarok said deeply. "It's best if you don't act rashly for now. We can't get on Alden City's bad side now. Otherwise, we will certainly be wiped out," Neo said, a little annoyed. His poor flowers had all been turned upside down; how could he not be angry?

"Master, I have made my decision. I will definitely find a cure. I don't know if it exists or even if there is someone in this world who can lift it, but I choose to believe. I choose to have faith," he said, looking at the fire bowl before him. Neo moved over and smacked his head.

"Master, are you crazy? What's wrong with you?" he looked wronged as he held his head. Wisdom pounced on Neo, biting his trouser. But Neo ignored it altogether. Wisdom was frustrated and glared before returning to Amarok's arms.

"At least you believe in me, huh, Wisdom?" Amarok asked with almost teary eyes. "Lazy. You're not going to find a cure," Neo said, shocking Amarok; did his master really have that little confidence in him? He felt his eyes turned red.

"We are going to find it together," Neo finally said, caressing his head. Amarok's hairs were now messy. His heart was assaulted by a wave of warmth; his master had surely sacrificed a lot for him to stay alive, yet he was even willing to go on an uncertain quest to help him find a cure that did not yet exist. Who knew how much time it would take? What kind of danger he would face? Yet Neo said those words without a single hint of hesitation; how could he not be shaken? "Master," his face finally turned wet as droplets cascaded down his teenage face.

"Let's go to the Lord's banquet AND pay our respect. No matter what, it's thanks to him we can cultivate the golden flowers here. We were supposed to do it with the very first flowers like everywhere, but because someone was too distracted by a beauty, we didn't," Neo said, standing up. Amarok smiled awkwardly; did he have to bring this up every time? It looks like his master didn't care about his feelings. He wanted to explain but felt it was useless.

"Where have you kept my sword?" he said after some time. Neo blinked, "What for? I threw it?? We are not going for a bloodbath just to offer flowers. There is no need for that," Neo quickly shook his head. "What!" Amarok cried in shock, "How could you throw my beloved possession?" Amarok was startled; he felt wronged as he stared at Neo; that sword had accompanied him since he started learning the Art of sword mastery. He felt like they had some special connection.
