Amarok's curse
Chapter 8: Moon cheetah

Chapter 8: Moon cheetah

In the golden garden, Amarok and Neo worked once more, both were silent. "Are you okay?" Neo asked as he suddenly stopped. "Yeah. Don't worry; I haven't lost the will to leave yet," Amarok said with a smile. Neo was unsure of what to think.

"We have been working for three hours already," Neo said. "I know," Amarok simply continued. "Don't you want a break?" Neo insisted. Amarok shook his head. It was a miracle they had worked for two hours, and he had not complained even once. Had he resigned to leaving here in the golden garden?

"Go now, have a break and return when you feel like," Neo said. "What's wrong with you today, master?" Amarok was speechless; since when did he get a pause so easily? "Scram, go and see your friend before I change my mind," Neo glared. Amarok was startled for a second; he glanced suspiciously at Neo before he left.

Walking through the golden garden, his thoughts wandered. These days, he had lost motivation to do anything. What should he do now? That question kept disturbing his mind. Suddenly, he noticed a group of people running in a particular direction. Curiosity piqued; he followed.

Soon, they arrived with a group of people; they all eagerly looked ahead. This was the first time there were so many people in the golden garden. What was even more strange was he could find some distinguished figures in the crowd, notably the City Lord, Lyra and her uncle, Kleid, and his senior. What were they all looking at? He was even more curious. Cries could be heard as he approached. The whispers became even clearer.

"It's the Alden City Lord's first son, Agris. He is indeed as talented as they say, already able to single-handedly face a moon cheetah," the elder next to him commented. "With his talent, it's just a matter of time before he is invited to the capital. He could make a perfect groom. What do you think, Elder Dorn?" Agris's senior said. Lyra frowned but said nothing as she turned to face her uncle.

"Well, it is still too early for that; Miss Lyra is just sixteen," Dorn said naturally after some thought. The elder smiled; Elder Dorn had neither refused nor accepted; this old fox was indeed cunning, as people said. "He is such a talent; I am honored you brought him to my humble city," the town Lord said. Alfred Guard nodded.

Amidst their chatter, Amarok could see a handsome figure dancing among the golden garden flowers. He wore a combat robe with a shimmering sword. It was slightly longer than usual and had seven blue waves on its edges.

Agris was shivering with violent energy; he was currently battling the moon cheetah. It was a dark blue monster, slightly bigger than a normal lion, and had imposing claws. Its speed was also a force to reckon with. Each time it pounced, Agris had to defend with his Rune weapon, unable to dodge. Sparkles flew and danced in the void as the claws and the sword crashed.

Powerful waves of energy swept everywhere, destroying the flowers and turning the garden upside down. Amarok had to admit Agris was indeed very strong, way stronger than Kleid. But it was obvious the moon cheetah would lose; one of its eyes had been pierced by Agris's sword. The crowd was applauding and congratulating.

Agris smiled as he pointed his sword at Lyra in the crowd before pointing at the beast, as if saying, "I will slay it for you." Agris dashed through the golden garden; his Rune sword exploded with energy, a blue halo enveloped his sword, shining brightly amidst the golden flowers. They shook, the symbols at its edge burst out.

"Flow of the Seven Rivers" – that was the Rune engraved on his sword. Agris attacked; the first sword strike came crashing like a tidal wave. The moon cheetah roared as it was flung several steps back, a huge wound on its claw. It stumbled, unable to stand on its four paws anymore.

"Can't even take the first strike? Kneel," Agris said with a mocking smile. The cheetah roared and pounced at Agris; its eyes red with fury. How could it kneel before a human? Agris smirked as he dashed, sliding past the beast; he drew a beautiful arc, a blue wave that exploded with energy, the second wave released.

The monster stumbled, crashing into the ground, a blue substance splashing everywhere, staining the ground.

"Master Agris is indeed worthy of being called the best of the younger generation. Not even I could display so much power and keep this elegance," Kleid said with a smile; many nodded and started complimenting. "Don't you agree, Miss Lyra?" Kleid added; he was still angry after she helped the other bastard that day. Lyra frowned as everyone turned to face her.

"Not bad," she said plainly. Many were baffled; what arrogance. Even the onlookers could not help but gasp; she considered such a performance as simply not bad. Elder Dorn smiled; this was indeed like his miss.

"Kneel," Agris repeated. He thought if he could offer it as a gift to the Dorn, he might get a better chance of getting Lyra's hand. But this damn beast wasn't willing to die; even after the second strike, it was still forcing its way up. Determination etched in its eyes.

"Since you don't want to kneel, so be it, die," Agris tightened the grip on his sword, propelling himself upward, he sprang in mid-air, striking like thunder, a blue halo splashing like a rock hitting water.

The cheetah's head was sent to the ground, blood exploding with even more intensity. At the same time, it clawed at Agris in midair. Agris was shocked, using his sword to block it but was still sent flying. He waved his sword, landing safely. It wasn't a mortal blow; it didn't even wound him, but it was a huge blow to him; everyone had seen how easily he was sent flying.

He was trying to use this opportunity to show his skills, but the damn beast simply wouldn't die. Agris gripped his sword, spinning through the golden flowers; the fourth river came crashing into the monster, but this time it didn't budge and clawed once more. Agris frowned as he quickly retreated. What was happening? He couldn't release more; the fourth wave was his limit.

His hands were already trembling from the massive energy flow around him. If he tried the next, he might get his hand broken or even worse. The onlookers were equally shocked; it looked like Agris was unable to kill the moon cheetah.
