CHAPTER 339
After what felt like forever, the ambulance finally arrived and took Luna away.
As the vehicle sped through traffic, Austin made a call to Mayo Hospital's best surgical expert and vice director—Frank Lawson, who was already stationed outside of the A&E building with a few doctors and nurses by the time the ambulance arrived.
Right as the ambulance pulled over, the doctors and nurses brought Luna's gurney down under Frank's lead. Content is property © .
"Who did this?!" Frank asked in shock when he saw the golden needle on Luna's chest.
"I did it. It was to stop the bleeding," answered Leigh as she stayed by Luna's side to observe her condition.
"Stop the bleeding?!" Frank shrilled, startling Austin, who then asked worriedly, "Is something not right, Mr. Frank?"
"No, not at all!" While Frank pressed the doctors and nurses to push Luna into the emergency room, he followed the gurney and scrutinized the golden needle. "Did the bleeding really stop after the needle was pierced into her body?"
"I think so…" Austin related. "Luna was coughing violently, and blood kept coming out of her mouth until the needle pierced into her body. She gradually stopped coughing, and when we brought Luna into the ambulance, blood stopped coming out of her mouth."
"Incredible! Absolutely incredible!" Frank gushed. I've only heard about it and have never seen this
method of stopping bleeding using golden needles. I'm enlightened."
At that, he turned to Leigh. "May I know who your mentor is, miss?"
Frank was already in his fifties and was from a medical family. Not only was he the vice director of Mayo Hospital, but he was also the vice dean of Dusktown Medical School. Though the man was high- ranking and had students from practically all over the world, he spoke deferentially to Leigh.
As a man who studied both traditional and modern medicine, he knew a talent when he saw one.
Leigh's acupuncture technique left him in awe, for he had only ever heard of such skills and never thought he would be able to witness it himself. How could he not be excited?
"It's a secret!" said Leigh as she kept her eyes on the golden needle on Luna's body, never once looking up.
While Frank was at a loss for words, Austin cleared his throat and explained, "Dr. Shefford, allow me to introduce you guys. This is Mayo Hospital's vice director and vice dean of Dusktown Medical School, Dr. Frank Lawson."
"I see." Leigh still didn't look up. "Does who he is have anything to do with me?"
Now, it was Austin's turn to be speechless.
"It's all good." Frank made nothing of it. "I was just curious…"
People with remarkable abilities tend to be a little weird; I get it.
During the time they chatted, they arrived in front of the operating theater, and Frank turned to Leigh. "Dr. Shefford, I'm going to have to ask you to come into the theater with me."
The golden needle needed to be removed before he could perform the surgery. Though he had knowledge of traditional medicine, what he learned was superficial. As such, he dared not remove them himself when he wasn't sure if there was a specific way of doing so.
Leigh nodded in agreement and turned to Madeline. "Go home first, Maddie. This surgery will take quite a long time."
She would help to the end. She wouldn't allow a patient that she had handled at one point to die on the operating table. She would only come out after she saw the results of the operation with her own eyes.
"It's fine." Madeline shook her head. "I'll wait for you here."
She didn't bring her boys to the hospital with her this time, for she had become traumatized when Joel fell sick after she took them with her to the hospital where Luke and Leonard were treated. Like before, Joel cried and refused to leave her, but he agreed immediately when she asked Emory to take the boys to Sebastian at his office.
Worried that it would be trouble for Sebastian, she gave him a call on the road and said the boys were on their way to the company. "Would it be a bother to you? If you'd rather, I can have Emory coax the boys into going back to Sun Garden first."
"They're always welcome here, and I happen to miss the boys too," said Sebastian. "Maddie, you're the
lady boss, whereas Aldo and Buddy are the mini-bosses of Hart Corporation. The company's our territory, and you guys can come whenever you want."
She could tell he was surprised by the boys' unexpected visit, and the happiness and glee laced in his voice made him look like a kid that got what he wanted for Christmas.
His reaction really touched her, and she couldn't help feeling blessed about her good luck for the umpteenth time that the boys' father was Sebastian. He was an influential man and a loving father, the luckiest thing that ever happened to her and the boys.
Unable to persuade Madeline otherwise, Leigh left her be. After all, Fred was here to keep Madeline company while Emory and Simon took the twins to Hart Corporation. She didn't need to worry about Madeline's safety.
Now, it was Austin's turn to be speechless.
"It's all good." Frank made nothing of it. "I was just curious…"
After making the preoperative preparations, Leigh and Frank entered the operating theater.
As Austin watched the doors close from outside, he felt as though his head was hanging above a fire pit. He wished the operation would end that instant so that he could hear the doctors say Luna was out of danger and the surgery was a success.
While he paced back and forth in front of the operating theater, Ava came to his mind, and he looked around to find her missing.
At that, he asked Johannes, "Where's Ava?"
"I didn't see Miss Ava…" answered Johannes. "My attention was on Miss Luna the whole time…"
"Hurry up and find her!" Austin ordered as he fought back his seething frustration.
"Yes, sir." Johannes pulled his phone out and made a call, then reported to Austin after ending it. "Miss Ava's with Dr. Yarde."
Dr. Drew Yarde was the Penham Family's private doctor.
"Well, she runs off quickly!" Austin growled. "What happened between her and Luna? Why did Luna attack her? And so aggressively at that! Meanwhile, what's up with your face?"
"I don't know why exactly Miss Ava and Miss Luna fought," Johannes answered with his head drooped. "Miss Ava and I went into the shop first, then Miss Luna barged in crying, swearing that she wanted to kill Miss Ava. Miss Luna then pressed Miss Ava on the floor without giving a reason… I slapped my own face because I clashed with Miss Ava by accident. So…"
Austin frowned in response. "She made you slap yourself right in the shop?"
Johannes nodded silently in affirmation.
"She's really getting out of hand!" Austin huffed in anger. "Go and ask around why she and Luna would fight!"
"Yes, sir." At that, Johannes made another call.
After a series of phone calls, he put the phone down and reported, "Mr. Austin, I've found out about it. The butler at Master Brandon's home said Miss Ava strangled Miss Luna's cat to death."
"Luna's cat?!" Austin's eyes widened in disbelief. "Snowball?"
"Yes." Johannes nodded in affirmation.
"Has she gone mad?!" Austin punched the wall in anger. "Luna raised Snowball since it was a kitten! She took care of the cat for nearly a decade, and she treats it like it's her own child! What the heck was Ava thinking, killing Luna's cat?!"
