Chapter 320

CHAPTER 320

When Madeline received a call from the law enforcement unit, she happened to be putting her sons to sleep. While Quincy and Alex were doing just fine upon returning home, Joel appeared to be rather lackadaisical and tired, no matter how the others tried to lift his spirit. Apart from that, he only picked at his dinner and even vomited after his meal. As Madeline and Sebastian were getting worried over their son's condition, they approached Leigh and Edward to check on the sick child, but the doctors assured them that the boy was fine. However, they both opined that Madeline and Sebastian should let the boy have a good night's rest since he had a bad appetite, thinking he would probably feel better the next morning.

After Sebastian and Madeline bathed the boys, they placed the children in the middle and put them both to sleep. And as soon as the children fell asleep, Madeline's phone rang. Then, she heard the prison warden telling her everything Isabel wanted her to know before urging her to provide any useful information to the police as well. After all, the attempted murder outside the school was a serious criminal offense that the police did not take kindly to. And if Isabel was telling the truth, the police hoped that they could gather the evidence necessary to bring Angie to justice.

Worried that she might wake the kids up, Madeline went to the room next door and answered her call. After finishing the tele-conversation, she hung up the call and was then deep in thought. Then, she let out a sigh before giving Crystal a call. In less than a second, the phone was answered and Crystal's concerned voice sounded from the other line. "Maddie?"

"Mom." Madeline asked, "How are you doing? I hope your heart isn't giving you issues."

"I'm fine. Don't worry about me." Crystal then asked, "What about you and the kids? Are you all alright?"

"Yeah, we're fine. The kids have gone to bed." Madeline added with a soft voice, "Mom, is… Dad by your side now?"

Crystal took a glimpse at Michael sitting beside her and said, "Yes, he is. Do you want to talk to him?"

"No… There's something that I'd like to tell you and Dad about." Madeline merely wanted to know whether her father was right next to her mother. After all, it was only wise to tell Crystal any bad news when someone was around. If by any chance she had a heart attack after learning the news, there would be someone to take care of her at least.

Having a bad feeling, Crystal asked anxiously, "What's going on, Maddie? Are you sure you and the kids are fine?"

"Yeah, we're fine. The kids are asleep, and Sebastian is currently by their side." Madeline then added, "Mom, I have something I want to tell you about Angie. But before that, please promise me that you're going to stay calm, no matter what you hear later." Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

"Angie?" Crystal's voice became cold. "What is it about her?"

Madeline then went on to tell Crystal what she learned from the prison warden. "Mom, if Isabel is telling the truth, that Angie had something to do with the incident, I definitely won't let her off so easily this time. Even if there's no evidence to expose her crime, I will not let her go unpunished."

Wrapping her fingers tightly around her phone, Crystal breathed heavily as her heart palpitated. While gritting her teeth, she responded, "Like mother, like daughter! She is a wicked woman and an animal without conscience, just like her mother!"

"Mom, the reason I'm calling you now is because I want to tell you what I think about the matter. As far as I know Isabel, I don't think she would be lying about this. Angie tried to kill my sons, and I'm going to make her pay the ultimate price. So, I'd like you and Dad to give my brothers a heads-up because I don't want to oppose them. However, for the sake of my kids' safety, I won't back down either even if they insist on protecting Angie!" Madeline spoke with a cold voice. Although she could tolerate those who tried to hurt her, she could not forgive those who tried to harm her sons. Moreover, she also believed that Angie was responsible for the state that Luke and Leonard were in.

Deep down, Madeline begrudgingly admitted that Angie was smart enough to use Isabel to do her dirty work without getting herself into trouble. Although she did not have any evidence to prove Angie guilty, she was confident that her plan to exact her revenge on Angie would not be affected. She believed in Isabel's words, and it was all the reason she needed to go after Angie and make her pay the price.

Though Madeline was aware of the laws that governed modern society, she did not think it was hard to make that wicked woman suffer. As long as she had the determination to do so, she would make it happen even without violating the law or getting her hands dirty. However, she could only do that if Angie was not protected by anyone powerful such as the Wendel Family. If Cedric insisted on standing in her way to protect Angie like last time, Madeline swore she would not back down again this time. In fact, she remained firm with her stance even if it meant the entire Wendel Family would oppose her as she was determined to take out the culprit who tried to harm her sons. I will not go soft this time!

"Don't worry, Maddie. Your brothers will understand. They won't protect a culprit who tried to kill you and your kids, but…" Crystal worriedly said, "Maddie, I understand that you are trying to protect your kids. At the same time, I also understand your rage and hatred for those who tried to harm your children. However, I want you to always stay calm and rational, Maddie. Don't let yourself be blinded by anger and break the law. Angie is a lost cause, but you're different. You have a bright future ahead of

you, so don't ruin it because of Angie."

"Angie?" Crystal's voice became cold. "What is it about her?"

Madeline chuckled and replied, "Don't worry, Mom. I still have to look after Quincy and Joel, and I want to watch them grow up and get married. So, I'm going to take good care of my future without ruining it for Angie. Like you said, it's not worth it after all."

"I'm glad you think that way." Crystal said, "It's getting late now, so your dad and I won't be heading over today. You and the kids should get some rest. We will pay you a visit tomorrow."

"Alright, Mom. I got it." Madeline sighed as she hung up the phone and walked out of the room, heading toward the room next door. The moment she opened a crack at the door to take a peek into the room where her sons were, she was shocked to find out that the bed was empty. She then heard voices coming from the bathroom. She rushed to the sources of the voices while calling out to her children. "Quincy? Joel?" When she got to the bathroom, she saw Joel standing in front of the toilet bowl where he was bending over to puke. At the same time, Sebastian was crouching down behind him, gently patting his back.

Not long after that, Quincy came with a glass of water in his hands, gazing at Joel with a pair of tearful eyes while trying to comfort his little brother. "Hey, Joel. Everything is going to be alright. You're going to feel better after vomiting."

In the meantime, Madeline's eyes were filled with tears as she felt a lump in her throat. She then approached Joel and squatted down beside the child, gently rubbing his back. "Good boy, Joel. Quincy is right. You're going to feel better after vomiting."

As Joel bent over and continued to puke, he vomited everything he ate during dinner until there was nothing left but yellowish liquid coming out of his mouth. The boy was shedding tears as he weakly and painfully endured the unbearable discomfort.

Meanwhile, Sebastian wrapped his arm around the boy in an anxious manner, finally understanding why a parent would wish to be in his child's position in a situation like that. Seeing Joel's misery, Sebastian really wished he could bear the pain for his son instead. He would rather suffer from an illness tenfold more unbearable than Joel's discomfort to save the boy from any further suffering.
