Chapter 8 - Classes

Hello again everyone! Thank you for reading and commenting! Your comments really make me happy and motivated so without further ado here's the first chapter of the second arc.

--------------------

I woke up with someone shaking me awake. I turned over and saw Sieg standing wear the same clothes as yesterday.

“Good, you’re up,” he said, “get out of bed and put on the clothes I brought you. School starts in ten minutes.”

I quickly got up and spotted the clothes at the foot of the bed and started changing clothes. It was the same as Sieg’s, a blue robe with yellow trimmings only mine had a Ravenex embroidered over the left chest. I motioned to the Ravenex and Sieg said, “It is to distinguish the commoners from the nobility.”

Great so this means that they’ll know who I am and hate my guts before I even get to know them, I thought.

“Here’s your schedule,” he said handing me a blank piece of paper, “it’s attuned to your mana and will display your schedule when you inject your mana inside. It’ll also serve as a guide when you get lost. Inject your mana now so that I can finish this job and head on to my class.”

I took the paper and thought, What did I ever do to you?.

I injected my mana on the paper and the paper started having beautiful designs all around it and it said:

07:00 AM – Breakfast

08:00 AM – Basics of Magic

10:00 AM – Magic History

12:00 PM – Lunch

02:00 PM – Summoning Magic

05:00 PM – Free Time

08:00 PM – Dinner

10:00 PM – Free Time

I looked at my schedule and thinking that there’s only less than ten minutes to class meant that he deliberately woke me up late! I looked at him and he had a sneer on his face when he said, “Come, I’ll take you to your Basics of Magic class.”

I followed him out of the infirmary wishing that I had breakfast first. Outside, the hall was lit with floating orbs every ten feet or so. There were no designs on the walls, just plain marble. We went through so many hallways that I was beginning to wonder why we never got lost, I lost track after turning left ten times.

Just then, we stopped in front of a door and he told me to go in. I opened it and went inside. Inside was pitch black and I started to go back but the door shut behind me.

I began pounding on the door trying to open it but it wouldn’t budge. This is bullying… First day and I get bullied… even as a prince, I thought, because I’m a prince, I get bullied. Good grief.

I pounded and pounded on the door when it opened and I fell forward.

“Careful,” said a gentle voice as I was caught before falling.

I stood up and saw a girl with pink hair, fair skin, and green eyes. She had on the same clothes as I did and for a minute I thought I saw an angel.

“You’re Prince Zed right?” she asked.

I nodded.

“What are you doing here? This place is off-limits.”

“S-Sieg led me here,” I stammered.

“Sieg did? I guess that makes sense,” she said after thinking a while.

She grabbed my hand and said, “What’s your first class?”

“Basics of Magic,” I said.

“Alright, I know a shortcut but don’t tell anyone about it,” she said leading me to a wall.

We ran straight towards it and I thought that we were going to crash into it but we just went through it as if there was nothing there.

“Welcome to the Magus room,” she said holding out her hands.

The room was eerie and dark. There was a circular ceiling that surrounded a light that went to a rounded counter. Around the counter were chairs that looked very uncomfortable. All around us were pillars of light with name plates near them at the ceiling.

She led me to a pillar that had “Basics of Magic”, written near the top.

“Just step in the light and you’ll be teleported into a another room like this one and just go straight ahead. You’ll see a door in front of you, just enter it as that’s your class. You might want to hurry up as there’s not much time left.”

“Thank you,” I said bowing down.

“No need, I need to say sorry though,” she said rubbing her right arm with her left, “Sieg has a… history with the nobility and he hates them for it. I hope you’ll forgive him.”

I considered it and said, “I’ll try.”

With that I entered the pillar and felt my body being ripped apart but it didn’t feel uncomfortable and then suddenly I was looking back at the room but this one was different as there was no counter or any other pillars.

I went straight ahead and I was in another hall and in front of me, just like the girl said, was a door. I opened it and was greeted by a cacophony of voices.

The room looked like a college lecture hall. There was a desk with black boards behind it on my right while gently sloping upwards were many desks on my left.

When I entered the room, everyone started quieting down and looked at me. I heard hushed whispers but I couldn’t tell what they were saying. I looked at the students and saw that the ones at the left were all nobles while at the right were all commoners. I could tell this because all the nobles had a Ravenex.

Discrimination on the first day even inside the class room…

I was standing there not knowing where the sit when all the noble children came down to where I was and knelt down.

This feels oddly great, I thought grinning.

“We welcome you, Prince Zed,” said a kid with blonde hair, bronze skin and blue eyes, “please follow me to your seat.”

He led me to my seat which looked like a throne in the front row of the left side. I sat down and he sat to my right, everyone else sat behind us.

“My name is Alex Rammert, of the Rammert knights. My dream is to become a mage knight that serves directly under you my Prince,” he said bowing down as he sat.

“No need to bow like that, for now let’s just be friends,” I said.

“Of course, my prince.”

“Stop calling me prince Alex. Call me Zed,” I said smiling.

“Okay Zed!” he said smiling.

Just then the bell rang and in teleported a man with a red robe. He had bald hair, dark skin and his eyes looked like they were closed.

“Welcome everyone to the first class of Basics of Magic,” he said with a breathy voice.

“I am your teacher for this class, Marvin. I should not have to tell you that magic is a wonderful but unforgiving power. Misuse it or be unable to use it completely means death…”

He continued on about how magic should be used with utmost care and that we should be careful of how much magic we were using and that we only use magic to the extent that we know for sure we can, all without breathing once.

It was the same lessons with Malakir only with a voice that repeated itself countless times over the whole period.

Finally the bell rang and he teleported away leaving us students to head for our next class.

“Pri-Z-Zed what is your next class?” asked Alex.

“History of Magic, what about you?”

“Same, come on let’s go,” he said already at the door.

“Wait, I know a shortcut but there’s too many people here so let’s just wait here for now,” I said after we got out the door.

“Of course my prince,” said Alex before he shut his mouth closed with both hands.

“I won’t do anything just try not to call me ‘prince’ I already told you that you can call me Zed,” I said moving his hands away.

“I know, but its just so different from what I thought.”

I have a feeling there’s a big misunderstanding going on with the commoners’ children and me right now if the noble’s act like this.

“You’re also a Supreme affinity?” I asked as the crowd around us went their ways.

“Yes, Summoning is my magic but I am also pretty good with a sword.”

“You can fight too?” I asked gaining a new found respect for my friend. Salazar told me that someone being able to fight in combat with a weapon while using magic is gifted.

“Of course!” he said proudly, “I’m a Rammert and all Rammerts are the best mage knights in the kingdom. I may be the youngest but I’ll surpass all my brothers!”

“You have brothers?”

“Yes, they’re all really talented people. My family has served as the Royal family’s personal knights ever since our ancestors became friends. Its only natural that our family be the best. Please let me be your knight, Prince Zed.”

I remembered seeing some people next to my brothers sometimes, I guess those were the Rammert knights then. Is this my father’s way of making sure I’m safe?

“If you really want to be my knight sure, but I don’t know how to give you knighthood so for now just being my friend is enough,” I said smiling.

He nodded and we continued talking about our families. He was the same age as I am only he’s a month older. He was also at my birthday but I never got to see him as my father led me around and I met Sasha.

Which reminds me, Sasha should be here but I haven’t seen her yet. Could it be that students with different magic are placed in different classes?

We talked some more and when there was no one left in the hall, I led him to the pillar I used and told him all about it. He was surprised that something like this was here and he said, “As expected.”

I led him to the Magus room and we found the pillar for our “Magic History” class. It was the same thing as the pillar we already used and it also led to another door which we entered.

The same situation as my first class was here. The commoners on the right, the nobles on the left. The nobles even left the front row empty leaving me and Alex to sit there.

The bell rang and our teacher teleported in. It was a woman this time. She had ginger hair tied up in a bun, red eyes with glasses over them and fair skin. She began class saying her name, Beatrice, as well as saying that she was twenty five when from my perspective she was forty something.

Again the same class as Malakir’s only this one was more morbid as she kept on introducing us to experiments that other mages have done in the past that killed them.

This continued on for two more hours when the bell rang and I was sure that the morning classes were made to make sure that we were scared enough that we weren’t going to try anything with magic.

Sure enough many of the commoners were scared whereas none of the nobles were since they were already told this like I was.

Alex and I decided to not use the pillars as everyone will be there for lunch. So we followed everyone to the cafeteria. I was so hungry that I just followed Alex to it.

The cafeteria was enormous. It had several floors with rounded walls making me think that the cafeteria was inside a tower. We went to the middle where the same podium as the royal library was placed. He told me to use it as only the Royal family can use such devices.

I pressed the top floor as that was where it said “Royal Family”. As soon as I touched it, I was surrounded by noble children all greeting me and wanting to meet me.

Alex and I had to everything we could to keep them from grabbing me and pulling me or my clothes off when suddenly a voice shouted, “Get away from master!”

It was Malakir. After shouting that, all of the noble students were pushed away by a giant wind and the podium elevator took us up.

Alex and I were dumbfounded and Malakir was just floating there humming.

When we got to the royal floor it was empty except for a table in the middle and a perfect view of the surroundings. I could see a mountain path on one side and the base of the mountain on another.

Asmodeus Academy was erected next to Asmodeus Mountain so it was only natural to see this.

“What was that?” asked Alex.

“It was my summon,” I answered truthfully.

“You have a summon! But where is it?” he asked looking around.

“Master, if you wish it I can reveal myself to him,” Malakir said.

I did want to, after thinking that Alex saw Malakir and said, “Wow!”

“Alex meet Malakir, Malakir meet Alex, my friend,” I said introducing them.

Alex blushed when he said, “I’m Z-Zed’s friend. Nice to meet you, great summon Malakir.”

“It is a pleasure to meet my master’s friend,” said Malakir.

Suddenly my vision darkened and I heard a cute voice say, “Guess who!”
