Chapter 2 - Magic Affinity

Chapter 2 - Magic Affinity

After breakfast I went to the royal library that I could finally go inside of. I don’t know what it is about these traditions requiring me to be five just to go inside the royal library but I guess it let me practice magic somewhat. The library was located inside a gray tower that was covered with markings all around it and a blue tiled roof. It had no windows but only a reinforced steel wooden door. I entered the library and inside was filled with shelves and shelves of books. There was no librarian but there was a podium in the middle with a tablet.

The podium was made of wood and on the tablet was written:

Royal Library of Rigel

1st Floor – Records

2nd Floor – History

3rd Floor – Geography

4th Floor – War Records

5th Floor – Magic Studies

6th Floor – Magic Research

7th – 10th Floor – Royal Floor

The words for the first floor was shining and so I thought I might try touching the words for the fifth floor. As soon as I touched it, the words lit up and I could feel the ground beneath me floating. The area around the podium was an elevator! I slowly rose with the podium elevator and I could see that I had some time to look around.

The shelves surrounded the rounded walls and also inched closer towards the center. There were no stairs that I could see so the podium was the only way of moving from floor to floor. Each floor was different. The first floor was neat and tidy but the second floor had some pieces of paper on the ground but it was still clean. The third floor had massive maps where some shelves of books should’ve been and there were tables scattered around also with some maps. Like the second floor it too had some paper on the ground. The fourth floor had drawings of some creatures as well as some maps with markings on them. This room was messier than the lower floors but it was still alright.

As soon as I reached the fifth floor I noticed that this floor was larger than the others. For one, it was taller and seemed to go on longer than the tower looked from the outside. There were shelves that went as high as the ceiling, which was what I thought to be one hundred feet. The shelves were only on the walls and there were tables and chairs near the center. I went to one of the shelves and started looking.

Ranking of Magic, Creation of the Magic Guild, Memoirs of a Sage; different titles were scattered with no set organization. It was as if they were just placed on the shelves just because there was space.

If only there was something about finding out my magic affinity, I thought. I had already begun my training with magic after watching some of the mages in the castle and imitating them. I had noticed my mana pool and was meditating as that was what I thought they were doing and my mana pool did increase. Although I don’t know how large my mana pool really is I still knew that it was increasing. Even though I increased my mana pool I couldn’t really use any magic. I asked Sebas about this at one time and he said, “You need to know your affinity first. After that, you will find it easier to practice your magic.” I asked him then about how I find out my magic affinity and he just said that I had to wait until I was five years old to learn about it, he wouldn’t even tell me what the affinities were.

Suddenly a book floated towards me, it was titled, On Magic Affinities. It seems that the books come towards you when you think about them, I thought. I grabbed the book and went to one of the chairs. As soon as I sat on them, the chair changed to become a plush and soft chair. At first it was too big for me but now it fit just right. The table also changed to fit my height when I was sitting. This library is very convenient, I thought with a smile.

I placed the book on the table and started reading. There were five different magic affinities; they were Primordial, Spectrum, Supreme, Ancient, and Legendary. Each affinity also had subsets that one specializes in. Primordial affinity, the most common one, had subsets of Fire, Water, Wind, and Earth. Anyone with a Primordial affinity is able to use any of the primordial elements but their subset will always be stronger than the others. Spectrum affinity, the uncommon one, had subsets of Light, Dark, Arcane and Nature. Spectrum affinity mages had the ability to use any of the Primordial magic but their restriction is only of an aspect of it. If a mage had a Light Spectrum affinity they could only use a purer version of the Primordial magic. Nature Spectrum affinity could only use the raw power of the Primordial magic, it was unrestrained and difficult to control. Arcane Spectrum had precise control on the Primordial magic. And Dark Spectrum had a tainted version of the Primordial magic.

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

Supreme affinity had Summoning or Contractual, Healing, Holy, and Chaos as its subsets. Supreme affinity was rare, except for Healing as that usually needed to be a member of the church to be able to use it. Supreme Affinity has no connections to the Primordial elements and is separate.

Summoning or Contractual allows to summon elemental spirits or contracted demons. Holy uses the divine powers while Chaos uses the demonic powers. Holy affinity usually increases the users abilities while Chaos does the same but only stronger at the cost of the users lifespan.

Ancient affinity is super rare and its subsets are Form, Void, Spirit, and Inner. Form allows the user to change or create something out of nothing but it has to be something that can exist. Void allows the user to deconstruct or change something to less of what it was. Spirit allows the user to be able to talk with the spirits and borrow their powers. Inner allows the user to release the hidden potential of a person as well as dispel any magical enchantment.

All of these affinities were amazing, I was already hoping that I had a Supreme Affinity as that was something that I was interested in. I turned another page and I was given another affinity to look at.

Legendary Affinity, the most unique affinity, its subsets are Time, Space and Ethereal. Time allows the user to change the flow of time. Space allows the user to bend space. Ethereal allows the user to use any of the lower affinities at maximum potential.

I was stunned, this legendary affinity, truly was deserving of being legendary. I continued reading and read that the Legendary Affinity cannot be noticed by any test and that the only way to really know is to try. Being excited, I wanted to see if I had the Legendary Affinity, but I didn’t even know of what to do. I didn’t have the time to look for another book when the podium elevator came into view and Sebas was there.

“It is time Prince Zed,” said Sebas with a bow.

“What time is it?” I asked.

“It is currently noon, and your family is waiting for you in the throne room,” he said checking his pocket watch.

“Ok,” I said getting up and going towards him.

“Why are they waiting for me in the throne room?” I asked as the podium elevator descended.

“That is where your magic affinity will be tested, all the guests have arrived as well.”

“They’re going to test my affinity today?!” I asked excitedly.

“Yes, they are also going to introduce you as the third prince as this is your first public appearance.”

That made me nervous, when the podium elevator reached the first floor. I followed Sebas to the throne room. When we reached the door, Sebas said, “Prince Zed, it is custom that you enter the door before me as this is your first public appearance. Please do not worry and everything will be alright.”

“Thank you Sebas,” I said with a smile as my nervousness and anxiety disappeared.

I reached out and opened the door thinking, I wonder what affinity I’ll get, as the light of the throne room almost blinded me and I heard, “Please welcome, the third prince of the Rigel Kingdom, Prince Zed Rigel.”
