I ran out of my room as fast as I could and jumped down the stairs. ‘I took 25 minutes!!!’ I cried out inwardly.
I had finally converted the glowing purple blob to dust however it took too long.
I was satisfied though. I felt energy coursing through me. I didn’t feel stronger, no, that wasn’t it. I just felt energy coursing through my veins. It does sound like strength though. To change the glow to dust I had to absorb the glow into my skin and circulate it around my body manually. I was careful not to touch my blood with the purple blob as though by instinct except I was familiar with this particular instinct.
The whole process was extremely weird.
What confused me the most was the part when I felt a bit too cold after absorbing everything and was wishing to warm up.
A small flame appeared on top of my left index finger at that thought. I believe the fire is a manifestation of the energy I felt.
Yes, fire. I had fire on my finger tip. But my finger wasn’t burning. I stared at it for a while and carefully, with my right hand, brushed against it with my thumb.
The fire went out but surprisingly, my thumb didn’t burn. I was beyond amazed and baffled. This wasn’t a dream that I was sure off. I began to laugh hysterically. I was now seeing vision, huh.
I tried to call the fire consciously and it heeded my call except it was bigger than I would have liked and enveloped my whole left arm. The fact that I didn't imagine an appropriate size was probably the problem.
I almost screamed and quickly tried to quench it with my right but this time, Mr. Right hand didn’t come to the rescue.
I tried to will the fire away just as I had called it but it wouldn’t listen.
I needed water fast but I was afraid that if I got up, I would set something else on fire. But wasn’t this just a vision? However I didn’t want to take any chances.
‘Maybe…just maybe…’ I thought suddenly and imagined water on my left hand.
‘Please work!’
My arm was abruptly covered in water and slowly the fire died away leaving me with a water covered arm except this water just kept rotating around my arm without even dripping. ‘It worked’ I smiled as I calmed down watching the cool water.
“How…interesting’ I thought. I tapped the rotating water with my right hand and my fingers passed through.
I tried to will away the water and this time it slowly disappeared.
‘The water listened but the fire not so much’
I sighed and stood up. My shirt had a hole on the side. “Tch, thanks for proving it’s not a vision, you useless shirt” I grumbled disapprovingly.
“Gee—Valerie must definitely not see this”, I said and took off my shirt. ‘It was a good decision earlier to change out of my uniform’ I pondered. Maddie must be a genius to anticipate something like this happening and asking me to change before I lay down.
(Author’s note: Maddie most definitely did not anticipate her best friend calling fire to fry her clothing)
I changed into a green shirt and red shorts and quickly cleaned the purple dust off my visible skin. I looked at my hands and my legs. Satisfied, I finally looked at the clock.
And that is how we are here. With me panting for using too much energy to jump down the stairs. ‘I hope I didn’t break any tiles’ I wondered inwardly. The collision with the floor was oddly loud.
The two adults in view had weird faces. My dad and the doctor were probably thinking the same thing. That I was supposed to be in pain
I sported a grin and told them that like I informed them earlier, I was fine now.
My dad was about to speak but then he stopped and stared at me.
‘Hmm?’ I was confused at his actions.
“Miss Baker? If you would please sit down” Ms. Harman said courteously.
“Yes, and if you can, call me Elizabeth please” I nodded taking a seat in the comfortable two seater couch.
“No problem. And if I recall correctly, you fancy the first name, so call me Melanie”, she replied.
I smiled and nodded dutifully.
“Tell me if I got anything wrong as I recollect”, Melanie said and put her hand in her purse. She brought out a folder and a red box. Opening the box she brought out a pair of glasses and put it on; it hung on her nose.
She flipped through the folder and with a click the mechanical pen was initiated, “You experienced unfathomable pain in your stomach”
“Yes”
She seemed to tick something.
“And this pain is gone right now?” She asked.
“Yes”
“If you could please elaborate on what you did to make the pain----“, she began
“Wait” Wilson interrupted abruptly.
We both turned to him and I raised a brow confused.
“That—on your face….” He continued.
“Hmm?” I tapped my cheeks, “What?”
Melanie looked at me then furrowed her brows as though bewildered.
“Is that some kind of new make up for teenage girls…”Wilson began trialing off.
“Make up? I don’t believe I put any just now, why?” I said and brought my hand from my cheeks. I looked at my palm and saw the ever familiar purple dust.
‘No way’ I looked up and saw the face of Wilson which wanted an answer and the face of Melanie that although she tried to have a straight face, the held-back laughter was apparent. She must have thought I poured eye shadow on my face.
“Holy Shit” I cursed and jolted out of the sitting room.
If I had turned back at that moment, I would have seen Wilson wide eyed with a face full of disbelief and Melanie who looked as confused as could be.
I ran into the visitor’s bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror.
Sure enough my face was outlined in purple dust.
‘Dammit, I didn’t think of cleaning up my face’
I turned on the water in the sink and washed it off. I looked back in the mirror to find my blue eyes staring back at me.
"Water does the job perfectly" I muttered. I guess I expected some kind of unexplainable reason why water couldn't wash it off.
There goes my excitement.
I sighed audibly. ‘This…what else could you call this but stupidity', I chastised myself. Luckily my dad thought it was make-up. I'll tell him I was just experimenting.
I probably disliked lying because whenever I thought about lying to someone, I felt weird.
"I just hate lying to people, that's all" a cheerful voice rang out in my head.

"Ow" I cringed as pain racked my skull. Luckily it only lasted a few seconds.
Then I saw a blurry scene in my head. A girl that was obviously me with no claw and pointy ears was laughing with... is that Jason?
Again I heard myself say: "I just hate lying to people that's all, ha-ha"
"Hmm" came the soft reply.
"I don’t know, I guess I feel guilty when I do it. But most of the time I can't even lie when I want to" I had burst into laughter.
Then the moving image faded away but not before me taking a lick at the ice cream in Jason's hand.
"We were really dating" I muttered.
She---I mean I said that I can't even lie when I want to but I had no problems lying to John/ Valerie.
'Hmm...But come to think of it. This is the first time I remembered something'
I exited the toilet and walked towards the sitting room. Giving Wilson and Melanie a smile, I sat down.
Melanie resumed asking me questions and Wilson just walked away without a word.
However something was bothering me.
I just retained my memory however unlike when I felt a sense of recognition with the purple gas, there was nothing.
No associated feelings. No recognition. No internal confirmation. Nothing.
I felt sick and odd. Why?! There must be something wrong. I----
"Elizabeth?" Melanie cut off my thought process.
"Yes?" I blinked rapidly.
"No, you didn't seem like you were listening, so I called out" She said taking off her glasses.
"Oh”, I said guiltily.
"Well, in case you didn't hear what I said, I said I can't prescribe anything to prevent this. According to you, your stomach was 'burning' however it stopped after you rolled over on your bed a few times." She glanced at me for confirmation.
I nodded. Then she continued.
"Using that, I can't really do anything now but I will research on the symptoms and get back to you" She said with a face that was neither smiling nor frowning.
I nodded slightly and she stood up. Having packed up her bag, she smiled and ventured towards the door.
"Wilson! Doc's leaving!" I yelled with my hands over my mouth forming an 'O'.
He scurried out from....where did he come from? And said, "Thank you so much for coming"
"Glad to be of service" she said with a small bow. I walked quietly behind her, escorting her to the door.
"We're back!" Came Valerie's cheery voice. For her to be happy, Wilson probably told her I was OK.
"Lizzy!" Margaret rushed at me.
I embraced the little girl and squatted to meet her eye, "Hey" I ruffled up her thick blonde hair and she giggled. "How was school?"
She raised up her right hand and showed me her palm.
"What?"
She giggled again, "5 years"
"Oh! Way to finally know your age" I laughed and stood up. She was very smart in some areas for her age. Just not on this particular field. "Hey Valerie" I smiled at her.
She replied by pouting, "When will you call me Mom again"
"Ah" I bit my lips a bit surprised at the sudden topic.
"Just Kidding! You're fine" She chuckled at my reaction.
"Mm" I mumbled and let out a slightly audible laugh.
"I'll be leaving if you don't mind", Melanie said butting in as she was waiting for Valerie.
"Oh sorry for delaying you", Valerie apologized and moved away from the door allowing Melanie to go out.
"Bye Miss Hairman!" Margaret called out.
"It's Harman" I said giving her a gentle head shake. "Welcome back...Mom"
Valerie swiftly turned to me shocked, "I really was just kidding"
I laughed it off saying, "It's fine. I'd have to do it sooner or later. Can I go lay for an hour or so please?"
Husband and wife looked at each other and answered me with a nod.
I let go of Margaret's head and began to walk away.
"Huh? Where Lizzy goin?" Margaret asked a bit confused
"To sleep" Valerie smiled at her.
"Oh~ can I sleep too?" She promptly asked.
"After you eat your dinner dear" Valerie said looking at the antique grandfather clock.
It read 5:10.
She held Margaret's hand and walked away.

I glared at the ceiling board while racking my brain for answers.
First of all there was no familiarity with nothing in this place. The people. The objects. Nothing.
Then came the familiarity with purple gas
Now that I actually remember something but I feel like I saw a foreign person's memory.
'Why?' I asked myself for the tenth time.
I grunted angrily.
It is as though I and the girl everyone knows are different people. I have thought this so many times that I have lost count but could it really be plausible?
I highly doubt.
However to not even recognize my own memory... what sort of thing is this???
There was no explanation on the internet for purple gas and neither was there any for not recognizing your memory.
The only thing I found was someone who said 'you could be rejecting the memories, that's why you think you don't know them' on the web but that doesn't apply to me.
I want to remember. I want to know what I am doing and why.
I don't want to remain a mystery to myself. Surely, it was interesting at first but now it makes me annoyed and confused.
It was not just the memories. I had fire appear on my hand. Fire! Fire that did not burn my body but burned my clothes.
There was water too.
And I can easily guess that it wasn't just these two I could make appear or control.
Then the question I asked the day I gained consciousness floated into my mind.
'Am I human?'
