Chapter 5~ Acceptance

Chapter 5~ Acceptance

There was absolutely silence.

That is if you ignore the frantic steps outside my bedroom.

‘I just vomited purple gas’ I thought.

I couldn’t think of anything else but just that.

I reached out to touch the fading gas.

It was cold to the touch.

I withdrew my hand immediately because I feared it would freeze.  I looked at it waver over the toilet seat and touch it but having no effect.

The burning sensation in my stomach has noticeably reduced.

‘All I had to do was vomit purple gas?!’ I thought angrily.

I bent to remove the remaining entity from my stomach but this time nothing.

I tried 10 more times, reliving the feeling but nothing worked.

I furrowed my eyebrows and sat on my butt then folded my arms.

I closed my eyes and waited for an image to appear.

Quietly.

Silently.

However nothing appeared.

But I continued to wait.

Slowly an image began to appear. It would blink into existence and then disappear. Oddly, I felt calm.

The same darkness that frightened me out of my wits calmed me. How ironic.

I saw a body. Although vague, I could recognize it anywhere.

It was mine.

I narrowed my eyes…or at least I wished I could so as to see better.

Just for a moment I saw my image body glow purple.

My eyes shot open.

‘What was that?!’

I could find no answer.

I let out a soft sigh and proceeded to close my eyes again. The pain was beginning to increase.

I could see my body again but this time it wasn’t glowing. It just had purple dust all over it.

It was right then that I finally face palmed.

“Ouch” I let out a small cry and massage my nose. That was stupid action.

I placed all the memories side by side in my head but there were no instructions. I figured I was supposed to make the purple gas go around my body and glow? Then after glowing it turns to dust?

Before that, what does all this mean?

No one around me experiences all this…. Or maybe they don’t let me know? I couldn’t come to a conclusion.

I bit my lips hard. Then crawled out from the bathroom towards the door of my room.

And I locked myself in.

Sitting up and crossing my legs so as to look like a monk in prayer. I closed my eyes again but this time no image appeared. I sighed audibly.

Knock knock knock

‘Ah, I forgot about Valerie’

“Sorry Valerie but can you leave me alone for a moment?” I called.

“You locked your door, are you okay?” She said softly.

“Yes, I am perfectly fine now” I lied.

“Okay...” she said with a hint of suspicion in her voice and I heard her feet move away. I felt guilty for lying to her but I need to confirm if this was the norm before showing it to a soul. I felt deep down that the purple gas was not something to be shown.

Besides, she didn't believe I was totally okay.

I thought of the burning sensation and imagined something purple in there.

'Move or something'

However I couldn't feel anything happen.

I tried again. Ignoring my anguish at my constant failure.

I still couldn't feel anything at all.

I opened my eyes and almost screamed.

I quickly covered my mouth and converted it to a small gasp.

My room was covered in floating purple air. It glistened when the disappearing rays of sunlight hit and then floated on its way. They stuck together looking like a purple galaxy.

However the room was not cold in the slightest.

And oddly enough, the gas wouldn't touch me.

I moved my arms and brushed it; but again I withdrew my hand just as fast.

"Cold!" I gritted my teeth.

It was almost as if the gas was rejecting my touch.

I stared at it then slowly, I lifted my fingers and beckoned it to come back to me.

For the first time since I came from the darkness to this place called earth, I felt a sense of familiarity. Like I’d done this before.

Even when my 'reflexes' kicked in, I would acknowledge that that was probably my usual reaction. But I couldn't connect with the action. This time though, I knew I had done this before.

If I were to have seen my smile at this moment, I would probably look extremely happy.

No...I was shaking with excitement.

This thing was proof. Indisputable proof that I existed. And it was what I’d been seeking.

I greedy grasped at it bracing myself against the cold. To just bear it.

"Warm..." I whispered subconsciously.

It was warm.

'Ah, it accepted me' I figured.

"What a weird thing", I chuckled.

"Are you speaking to yourself now?"

I jumped and looked at the door. Like I guessed the gas went no further than my door.

"Is that you John?” I asked with the most innocent voice I could muster.

“Doc’s here. Open up" he said

I turned to my left immediately and glanced at the red alarm clock.

'30 minutes?! How?'

From when I sat here till now 30 minutes already passed. And I felt like just 5 minutes.

I scratched my head and turned to the right to face the door, "I don't feel so bad anymore ~ if you would be so kind as to send her home?"

"Not happening" came the booming voice.

"Ah Dad. She locked the door", John said.

"Elizabeth come out", Wilson called gently.

"Uh...15 minutes please?" I asked.

I do not know if they can see this thing but I’ll take no chances.

'Come on hurry up' I beckoned to it.

“15 minutes for what?” Wilson asked.

As though it heard me, it moved faster towards me and enveloped me. I expected to feel the sensation of warmth but instead it just layered around my body like a membrane and felt like clothing except without he warm feeling. It was indeed weird.

And it began to glow.

If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

I gasped.

“Did something happen?” John questioned hearing my gasp.

“Uh no. N-Nothing” I stuttered considerably. ‘Tch fuck my non tranquil mind’

“Are you sure?” he asked even louder, his voice sounding very concerned.

“I am good”, I tried to placate him. “Be out in 15 minutes!”

I looked down at my body.

“Need to....dust…” I whispered to myself.

Wilson looked at his son who in turn looked at him.

Their eyes said the same thing, ‘She obviously is not okay’

John shrugged and with a confused smile walked away.

Wilson stared at the door and took a step closer.

“Tch, I only have 15 minutes, work with me here!” came the yell from inside the room.

‘Who is she talking to?!’ Wilson pondered and waited for the so called person to reply but no other voice sounded.

‘Maybe she’s trying to fix something?’ he thought rationally and in turn shrugged. His daughter tended to confuse him more often than not.

‘The perks of having a teenager’ people called it.

He let out an audible sigh and all of a sudden the body movement in Elizabeth’s room ceased.

‘What?’ he said narrowing his eyes, ‘Ah, she probably noticed me’ he figured.

He smiled mischievously and with purposely silent steps walked away.

Climbing down from the stairs and into the sitting room, he glanced at the quietly seated woman on the couch at the far end of the room. Sipping on a can of soda.

He inwardly apologized again for his daughter’s taking her time.

The usual Wilson would scold Elizabeth and get her to come out but he had missed his beloved daughter for almost a year and all he wanted to do now was to spoil her.

He proceeded to seat across the doctor and wait.

The lady also known as Mrs. Melanie Harman was the family doctor had been with them through the whole Elizabeth process and as he quoted from her:

‘The girl has a mysterious illness and symptoms doctors have never seen.  I am actually glad to be in charge of her regardless of her actions’

He didn’t understand. He was just the owner of W&C Oil Company and was not intrigued by mysterious stuff. His life dealt with finding evidence of new sources and materials and getting them before other companies. He was good at it and excelled in the industry.

His wife also had no connection with the medical field. Speaking of his wife, she had thought Elizabeth was going to go back into coma. It had taken a considerable amount of persuasion to get her to go back to work and not break into his daughter’s room which had just been locked.

The only doctor he was around was his son, however, his son was mainly a smart goofball.

“Ms. Harman, if you would please wait a few more minutes”, Wilson finally spoke up. The lady looked up and a second’s worth of surprise ran through her face showing that she had been in thoughts and had not noticed him. “My daughter seems to be having some problems and will be with you shortly”

The lady let out a smile that contrasted her stern face structure, “It’s alright. She can take her time”

‘She controls her emotions fairly well’ was the thought crossed Wilson’s mind. Mrs. Harman’s face had no other emotion except a benevolent look. ‘Rare to see people with such control’ Wilson thought and the sighed inwardly, ‘she must have seen a bit too much of life huh’

He stood up towered towards the table in the middle and with his huge frame reached for the remote.

The only way to know John and Wilson’s relation was the face. While John was lanky and tall, Wilson was fairly of the same height but huge with protruding muscles befitting of his area of work. He sometimes partook in the drilling of oil and the muscles were from his earlier days of looking for a job.  He had expected the muscles to reduce after he established his own company and dealt with paper work more often than not but surely they had toned down but the bulk of the muscle remained.

“Any thing you’d like to watch?” He asked Mrs. Harman.

She looked at him, “Hmm….”

“Dad, I’ll be heading out now if you don’t need me for anything”, John interrupted walking into the seating room, positioning his tie with his right hand and holding his car key and house key in the other. He was smartly dressed in white collar shirt and brown slacks.

“Going home finally?” Wilson laughed. The boy had refused to retire to his own home and resided in their house the whole time since Elizabeth recovered. Luckily, John was unmarried because Wilson could imagine the earful John would get if he was married.

“Yea”, John chuckled, a bit embarrassed, “I probably need to dust up. But I need to head to work first”

“Alright”, Wilson nodded.

John gave a slight bow to Mrs. Harman and walked out the door.

“Anything not cartoons would be fine”, Mrs. Harman spoke out.

“Oh...” Wilson nodded slightly and turned to the television.

“Sorry for wasting so much time!” came the loud voice as a lively blonde girl jumped down the stairs and ran into the sitting room panting quite heavily.

The two adults just stared at her blankly, ‘Wasn’t she in pain?’ they both thought.

Elizabeth straightened up and flashed them a grin, “I told you all I was fine now, didn't I?” she spoke as though she read their minds.

Wilson was about to retort when he noticed something on her face, ‘Is that purple dust on her face?’

(Author’s note: the smart and foolish girl forgot to clean her face~)
