Chapter 15~ Prelude to disaster

Previously on 'To Remember...'

‘The white enchantress and the butcher…’ Mordred said softly.

‘Huh? He is going off on a tangent’ I looked up and stood, “I am full now but can I go to the bathroom? I will be back to wash and tidy up”

“Sure” Wilson nodded.

I smiled and darted upstairs before realizing that my excuse to run up was not very valid seeing as there is a toilet downstairs. I shrugged helplessly and got inside my room.

“Reveal yourself” I spoke and Mordred’s form slowly appeared with him in a thinking position.

“What is it?”

“Hmm the question is not how? But why?”

‘He’s not hearing me’ I sulked.

“How did they notice… no before that is this a good thing..?” he pondered out loud.

“Mordred!” I bellowed making him jump. 'Ugh, Valerie’s going to ask about that shout'

“Y-Yes, my lady” he stuttered as his thoughts got shattered because of my yelling.

I sighed, “What is it?”

“Eh? Ah… that is, hmm, comrades? No, call them acquaintances… hmm but the white enchantress might be…” Mordred held his head and gave a long sigh.

“Two familiar auras from Vetranos are here” he said flatly after much consideration.

“Eh?” I said dumbly thinking I heard wrong.

“And I think they came because they noticed your peculiar energy in another dimension” he continued, “No, since it’s the white enchantress, she probably just smelt you”

“What are you talking about?” I wrinkled my brows.

“I don’t know how they noticed but one of them might be out to kill us”, he finished his report.

“You! How can you just dump that info on me, just like that?!” I pointed at him with my eyes wide.

“Granted” he was still talking, “The usual Milady can take care of them both in a little over an hour but Her majesty now…” he glanced at me with a look of pity and sighed.

I was dumbfounded at his brazen nature of stating that I won’t survive if they wanted to kill me.

“But you’ll be here so there’s nothing to fear” I said smiling.

“No. I can handle him pretty well but the white enchantress is too much of a headache to carry” Mordred replied.

“Him?”

“The butcher”

“Sound like a meat selling kind of guy”

“He is. He is known for selling body parts of humans to their enemies. I heard he makes quite a lot of money” Mordred stated frankly.

The image was fresh in my mind and I expected myself to feel nauseous but I burst into laughter. “Hey, is his name Vodka?”

Mordred turned to me swiftly, “How..?”

I tapped my head, “Happen quite a lot, get used to it. I randomly get words or names”

“I thought that only happened to Miss Elizabeth’s memories…” he asked, some-what disbelieving.

“Yes. But that was when I still needed to remember something” I said in a matter-of-fact tone.

Mordred narrowed his eyes, “Everything?”

I nodded, “Every part of her memory has come to me”

“Oh…” he said and his face looked a bit dejected.

I smiled, “I would have told you but didn’t find the right time"

His face lit up like a light bulb making me laugh.

“These two people, where are they?” I asked promptly after much internal debate.

Mordred’s face immediately froze.

“Hmm?” I asked pressingly.

“That… we’ll find out soon enough, Your Majesty” he stuttered.

I narrowed my eyes, ‘this guy sucks at lying to me’

“I see” I straightened up and he let out a sigh of relief making me even more curious.

But I decided to just let him off. I guessed it’d be a bit fun to find out on my own.

And, I think my mental fortitude just gained a +.

I flopped down on the bed, “Hey Mordred, according to you, I moved my soul to another body through the forbidden spell, ‘takeover’, the price is the death of the caster, right?”

“Yes! And the spell has to find a body at least 99% compatible with you or else your soul will be soaring till it finds one. Coincidentally, Miss Elizabeth died right after you did and was 99% compatible”

“I see. She did after me. So I killed myself, why?”

Mordred paled and his face read, ‘she brought it up!!’

“Just kidding. You’re not yet ready to tell me anyways. But according to you, the spell has no reason to have erased mine and Elizabeth’s memory” I smiled.

“I think that happened because you and Miss Elizabeth have the exact opposite personality and the spell’s soul defense mechanism erased both memories to allow for a successful assimilation” Mordred said now at ease as I didn't pursue my death story.

“What do you mean defense mechanism?”

“Spells of the highest order like that require incantations whether you are an immortal or not and they have defense mechanisms. Miss Elizabeth’s personality and yours must have clashed because you arrived just as Miss Elizabeth was leaving. Instead of leaving you two to fight for domination, it just put both personalities there for you to remember later and left your soul inside the body”

“This is quite interesting. Can’t believe I never asked about it. What is an Immortal?”

“You. Your Majesty”

I blinked twice, “I don’t feel immortal at all”

“That’s because your current body hasn’t attained that level”

“Level?”, I asked

“Of course, since all your traits were transferred it should be easy to get your strength back but the you now at best is probably a rank 16 mage and a rank 7 fighter. Just a Craven. But if you perform a release, you could be at the Ardent level in one of the areas though.”

‘That word! The woman called Celeste mentioned it!’

“What is a crav----?” I began.

“Elizabeth! I thought you were going to wash up!” came Wilson’s deep voice from downstairs.

“Oops~~” I jumped of the bed and ran down the stairs leaving Mordred behind.

Mordred’s face changed to one of surprise and worry, “She knows about a Craven...” he muttered, “She’s remembering a lot more… my fault?”

                                                                       %%%%%%

“No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” I roared as I jumped up from bed after much contemplation.

“School…” I mumbled almost crying. ‘I really want to be in Vetranos right now’ I sighed.

“Whoever came up with the school idea should be struck by lightning”, I cursed under my breath. It was 6am and I needed to be ready for school. It was just a walking distance but that was extra work.

“I think the person who came up with the idea is long dead though” Mordred interjected.

“I didn’t ask you”, I mumbled and went into the shower. But first, I checked my beautiful self. And I sighed at my disheveled self. The perks of being a girl. (AN: Preach sister) I would be a narcissist if I didn’t see myself like this from time to time.

"Hey Mordred, is there a spell that will stop me from having this every morning?” I asked pointing to my head.

“That kind of spell is only compatible with an elven body” Mordred replied.

“Elven? Like elfs in storybooks?”

“Yes”

“Hmm” I moved a strand of hair from my eyes.

‘Those point-diamond are probably elves?’ I figured and straightened up, 'but they look a bit different from the stories'

I laughed a bit and proceeded to the tub to bathe and dress up.

Getting down, I saw Valerie jingling her keys. She looked smartly dressed in an emerald green button up shirt and gray pencil skirt. She was ready for work already. I glanced around for Wilson, or John but none were there.

“Hey Mom, where’s Wi—Dad?” I asked waking to the kitchen.

“Went out early. And John went home after you slept off. You woke earlier than usual, though. Your school’s by 8, right?” Valerie replied.

“Yea” I said and bit into the slice of bread I grabbed, “decided to be very early on the first day”

“Very early?” Valerie chuckled, “It’s 7: 30, you know”

I smiled.

“Okay then. I got to go. Maggie come here!” She yelled.

The little beauty appeared on the stairs and jogged down, “Mummy”

Valerie grabbed her hand, “Bye sweetie” she waved at me and left. I nodded after her.

I finished up making a cup of tea for myself and sat down to eat up.

I spotted the eggs Valerie had fried while in a hurry and put it in between my bread and devoured them.

Soon done I trotted out the door and onto school all the while having nonsensical bouts with Mordred.

                                                     %%%%%%

The class was as noisy as usual with no one giving much notice to who walked in.

“Oh, Elizabeth” a girl noticed me and waved me over.

I turned and smiled at the chubby girl then waved back with shake of my head.

I walked over to my seat at the window and sat down in my seat. It was the first day of school for the semester and as I looked at the desk as nostalgia overcame me and I smiled a bit.

I tapped Maddie, "Yo"

She turned around and stared at me.

"Hmm? Is there something on my face?" I asked

"No" came the crisp reply. To be honest, the reply felt a bit sinister.

And it looked like I wasn't the only one feeling that it was sinister as the discussions started to dim.

"It's been a while" Maddie then smiled erasing the earlier tension.

I narrowed my eyes at this.

Because I could have sworn that the smile just now looked different from the way Maddie usual smiled.

I was probably being paranoid but I wanted to comment on it but,

"Elizabeth...?" came the soft voice.

'It's the first day of school, you woman, Ugh!' I thought and raised my head up.

"What do u want, Lilian?" I said helplessly.

"No change.... no...something is...?" She started to say.

‘Huh? No change? What?’

"What are you taking about?" I tilted my head confused.

“What am I talking about? I am---”she began

Just then the door slid open and a familiar ebony haired boy with hazel eyes stepped in. Lilian stopped talking and turned to look.

'Jason' I thought immediately, 'it's been months since I saw this face. Wow~'

"Lili---" he began and stopped as his eyes met mine.

'His hazel eyes still have the same effect on me. Weird' I mused.

Jason smiled at me then turned to the girl standing by my desk, "Lilian, you forg----" then he stopped abruptly.

I would have, too because a concentrated thirst for blood spread through the room towards his direction.

Jason’s face contorted in surprise and fear. He also looked confused as though he didn’t know what was going on.

I was shocked. This blood lust was almost as immense as the one I feel from myself.

My eyes darted around the room trying to find the source. I soon met Lilian’s eyes then moved over to Maddie.

They were both staring at me with faces full of confusion.

'What's their problem?' I thought.

Then I found myself looking at my own body.

"Mordred...?" I muttered shocked and in disbelief.

At my word, Lilian and Maddie uttered an 'Ah’ as though they just noticed something obvious.
