Divorcing 166

Chapter 166 Admas's Birthday

"Just like flowers, people have different blooming seasons. Sometimes you might wonder why a flower hasn't bloomed yet, but it's simply because its time hasn't come. Yet, even before its bloom, it's been quietly preparing."

Chloe pressed her lips as if understanding why Admas had chosen to share these words with her today.

On Admas's birthday, there was no media or paparazzi present.

It was a simple family gathering, with only the Shawns in attendance.

While it was considered a simple celebration, the sheer number of Shawns present made it anything but.

In previous years, Chloe would go all out for Admas's birthday, meticulously planning her outfit weeks in advance.

This year, however, she opted for a comfortable yet elegant long dress devoid of any excessive embellishments. After all, no matter how she dressed, the Shawns would always. find fault.

She might as well be herself and focus on her comfort.

Chapter 166 Admas's Birthday

The maids were bustling about, preparing the evening's

extravagant dinner with many ingredients imported from

abroad.

Victoria arrived with Cathy and Harvey, carrying a delicate designer bag.

Jennifer also made an appearance, about half an hour later than

Victoria.

Since it was Admas's birthday, even Ben, who had had a falling out with Michael recently, showed up with Lisa.

The only one absent was Laura.

Chloe was accompanying Admas in a chess game on the second floor when she learned that Laura had an urgent business trip abroad with her husband and wouldn't be back in time. Chloe set down her white chess piece and looked at Admas, a hint of worry in her eyes.

For an elderly person's birthday, it was natural to want the entire family together.

Laura's absence might leave Admas feeling downcast.

"Chloe," Admas said, "focus on the game. You've already lost!"

As Admas his final chess piece, the game was over.

Chloe chuckled, a bit embarrassed, realizing she had been distracted.

"They should be here by now, Grandpa. I'll go downstairs first,"

she said.

After all, she was still Michael's wife, and in a situation like this, it was her duty to greet the guests.

Admas, knowing that the Shawns enjoyed giving Chloe a hard time, advised, "Alright, you go ahead. I'll join you soon."

Chloe descended the stairs, taking in the sight of the extended family gathered in the living room. She felt surprisingly calm.

In contrast, Victoria and Jennifer eyed her with their usual disdain.

"Chloe, I hear you and Michael have been staying at the mansion lately. Did you just wake up?"

"Young people nowadays love staying up late, so it's

understandable they wake up a bit later. Besides, Chloe doesn't have a job yet, so she doesn't have much to do at home. She might as well get some extra rest." Jennifer added, her voice dripping with condescension.

Victoria scoffed, "Even if you stayed up late, it's still basic courtesy to greet the guests when they arrive. Do you not know the Shawn family's etiquette?"

Before Chloe could utter a word, she had been cornered by their

accusations.

It was as if she had just rolled out of bed.

"Victoria," Chloe replied calmly, "Grandpa asked me to keep him company for a game of chess earlier. Today is his birthday, and of course, Grandpa comes first." She used Admas as a shield, silencing Victoria's criticism.

"Now that the game is over, you should take some initiative around the houseworks."

Jennifer eyed Chloe with disapproval, her voice laced with hostility.Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
