"Chloe, don't worry about this. I'll take care of it."
Michael turned off his cell phone, not wanting to worry Chloe.
But Chloe was still very serious. "If you don't want me to worry, tell me everything."All content is © N0velDrama.Org.
One of the reasons she divorced him before was because he hadn't told her anything.
He had been handling all things on his own and had never thought to communicate with her, his wife. She had to find out what projects he had and what he was working on from other coworkers. Chloe thought, "If we're going to spend our lives together, why doesn't he tell me anything?
Is it because he doesn't think I'm capable of sharing with him in dealing with it, or does he think I don't matter at all?"
Even though they were now divorced, Chloe still wanted to know the truth uncontrollably when she went through this again.
Chloe regretted it a little after she said it, though.
It was because she remembered she didn't seem to have much to do with him now.
Chloe coughed awkwardly. "It's fine if you don't want to talk about it. We're just roommates living together now anyway. You don't have to tell me your business."
After saying that, Chloe intended to go upstairs. But the next second, Michael grabbed her wrist. "I never thought of you as a roommate!"
How could they be described as roommates?
Chloe pressed her lips together and tried to pull her hand out of his.
"It's Lucy. You saw her at the party earlier. She's gotten with Abel, the chairman of Kranton Bank. Abel gave her the authority over Kranton Bank, so she doesn't want to work with Shawn Heavy Industries anymore." Michael told Chloe all about it.
Chloe looked at him with some consternation for a long moment before saying, "Why is she going against Shawn Heavy Industries?"
Michael pinched his eyebrows. "Because she wants to go back to work, but I don't agree."
Chloe fell silent.
It was actually clear to her that at least part of the reason he didn't want Lucy back was because of her.
So, she had something to do with the problems at Shawn Heavy Industries now.
"What are you going to do about it?"
"I've stabilized the company for now. I just need to find a new partner now."
Although he made it sound easy, Chloe knew that finding a partner wasn't something that could be finalized in a day or two.
"Why haven't you gone back to deal with it and stayed with me at Mamaica all this time?"
Chloe subconsciously blurted it out.
But Michael said without thinking, "Because I can't leave you."
His words stunned Chloe. He had never said anything affectionate to her before, but now he said it a lot.
But they were both adults and responsible for their behavior, whether it was the previous divorce or the current one with his company.
If he remained at Mamaica because of Chloe, he had to face the fact that Shawn Heavy Industries might not persist.
But Chloe didn't want him to. She didn't want him to give up his company for her. She couldn't afford that responsibility, and it wasn't something she actively wanted to take on.
Michael looked into her eyes. Although she didn't say a word, he seemed to know what was on her mind. "Chloe, give me some time. I'll be back as soon as I'm done celebrating your birthday."
Chloe's birthday was about half a month away. Michael convinced himself to wait until he was done celebrating her birthday. If she still didn't want to return by then, he'd go back and deal with Shawn Heavy Industries first. He would come back to stay with her when it was taken care of.
Chloe wanted to say that he hadn't celebrated her birthday for the previous three years, so he didn't have to care so much this year.
But before she could say anything, she realized that she had never actually gotten over those three years.
Chloe always remembered the previous three years when Michael was being nice now.
But those three years were clearly in the past.
Why did she always cling to those three years, blaming them for Michael being nice to her or making up for her now?
