Chapter 55: The Past, A Dungeon and Domination (III)

The two massive slimes jiggled for a bit, sometimes one would jiggle and then the other and sometimes they would jiggle simultaneously. The Invader could not understand what was going on, but the Imperial Slime Couple had not started the fight and were merely giving their anxious congratulations to the one who had reached their room. They then proceeded to make the statement that the Invader would meet their end here and become their food, but the Invader could not understand what the Imperial Slime Couple was ‘saying’ nor would it have cared about the monologue even if it could.

After the Imperial Slime Couple finished their speeches, the battle started as the Slime Emperor and Slime Empress called their lesser kin from drains in the ground. Soon the room was practically filled with Huge Slimes, King Slimes and Queen Slimes and the Invader was surrounded. At this point the Invader should have been helpless, but rather than succumb to the digestive juices of hundreds of Slimes, it merely flew into the air and began to form small orbs made of a darker, more twisted version of Light Magic on its fingers.

“Crazy Finger Dance: Blacklight Magic Version!”

Slimes could not understand the speech of other races that were not Slimes, but they all immediately knew that the Invader was about to unleash a powerful Magical attack. The Invader flew to the top of the domed roof of the arena and began to wildly and aimlessly fire a massive onslaught of magical projectiles that drilled straight through whatever they hit. Even as Metal Slimes attempted to cover their kin, the beams of lethal energy simply tore through any and all defenses as if they were not even there.

The barrage lasted for what felt like an eternity as the rest of the nine bosses watched in horror as the Imperial Slime Couple were obliterated in a matter of moments. Rather than stop after the deed was done, the Invader kept up the attack until the ground of the arena was so heavily damaged that any Slime that had been hiding below had been either crushed by the Dungeon’s masonry or repeatedly perforated by an absurd amount of firepower. After a good five minutes of sustained fire, the Invader ceased its attack and floated gently down to the ground, looked around and then walked through the doors that the late Imperial Slime Couple had been guarding.

(This section takes place from the perspective of a Goblin)

When the doors opened, and the Monster walked through we had just finished our preparations to oppose it. Hastily erected barriers and traps lay strewn about the room and we had all renewed our oaths to the Imperial Family and the Over-Emperor. We had heard about how the Monster had turned our comrades from above our floor either into evil undead or had simply crushed them cruelly and without remorse. The feeble jelly blobs had failed, but it was time for the Goblin Imperial Army to shine!

As the Monster walked down the prepared path, we hid and waited for the chance to strike. All it would take to deal with a human would be a simple and momentary lapse in judgement and observation, so we watched and waited. The Monster seemed to know where each of our well-hidden traps were, some of which were even so well hidden that our own people would fall into them without warnings. Eventually someone in our group had endured enough waiting and fired his arrow, which forced us all to do the same. Hundreds, no, thousands of poisoned arrows made with steel tips flew towards the Monster, but with just a gesture the masterfully crafted arrows were reduced to dust.

The Monster then moved at inhuman speeds and began to tear our force to shreds. Every strike against it was futile as it viewed our attacks as ponderously slow and simply either moved aside or worse, used one of our own comrades to take the blow for it. Limbs and heads were sent flying with every movement by the inhuman demon that tore our fellows to bits like they were prey before the apex of predators and ultimately, I could not endure the gut-wrenching slaughter that I was seeing and fled. I ran, for the devil itself was on my heels and the miserable sounds of my own kind followed me as I scurried to the place where the Imperial Family had gathered for a potential final defense.

As I ran into the throne room, I noticed how unusually quiet it was and how very empty it was. When we had marched out to face the Invader, the Imperial Family had sent us off with promises of glory, but now they were nowhere to be seen. I sniffed the air as I desperately tried to determine where the Leaders were but could only learn that they were beneath me. I pulled away the massive rug that I was standing upon and discovered a hidden chamber under the throne room. Lifting the trap door, I fled down to where my Imperial Majesty was hidden only to be berated by the Emperor himself.

“You foolish fool! How foolish a fool could you be to foolishly expose our position, you fool?! What would your foolish self do if the Invader followed your foolishly foolish self down here, you foolish fool?!”

I was unable to answer my Lord as the sounds of heavy boots stepping down the stairs sent chills down our spines. I turned around and saw the Monster stepping off the stairs and into our hiding place. Its face was contorted into a hideous and distorted facsimile of our own, with pink-ish skin instead of green, a much less pronounced nose and a head covered in black fur that covered its non-pointed ears. Its words were what truly caused revulsion and dread as it spoke in a deep and booming mockery of our own voices.

“I do hope I am not interrupting anything, but I must inquire as to why you use the word ‘fool’ so much. Is it your favorite word? Do you not know about the words ‘stupid’, ‘moron’ and ‘imbecile’? Well, none of that really matters now, does it?”

The Monster looked around the room and then back behind itself at the only way in and out. It reached into a rip in reality and pulled out a sword that seemed to only be big enough to be viewed as a dagger in its hands. It played with the sinister blade for a while before pointing it at the Emperor and Empress. It then pretended to draw the blade against its throat before taking a small step forward that propelled it at abnormal speeds past me and into the Empress.

By the time we recognized what had happened, the Empress’ body had begun to dance in the air as her head was clutched by the off hand of the Monster, who crushed her skull like it was an egg shell. Just like that, the most beautiful woman to ever live had been brutally butchered, her divine face lost to the world forever. The Monster then did the same to the Emperor, but this time it simply dropped his head to the ground and crushed it to paste beneath its oversized boot.

Finally, the Monster turned to face me. I knew I could not hope to defeat it, but as the last of my kind I had an obligation to…

The world danced and I saw my headless body as I felt an impact. I blinked a few times before I realized that I too had been beheaded by the Monster. The world began to grow dark and cold as I tried to gasp for air and keep myself conscious, but eventually the darkness took me, and I fell into the black sea of infinity that was death. As I sank deeper, I lost track of time in this timeless place, but the nothingness I had found myself in was not to last forever as a voice of a being higher than even the Over-Emperor called me back from oblivion. God spoke just one word, but it was enough to awaken me from my endless dream.

“Arise!”
