Chapter 53: The Past, A Dungeon and Domination (I)

“I swear, if Alexis didn’t insist that I delve into our new Dungeon I would be up there with her and our kids…”

Kain was down near the foot of the castle, outside the massive gaping hole that was the entrance to the Dungeon. He longed to be with his kids, but Alexis had given him no choice but to dive into the newest building, and the only one to actually be physically visible. In her eyes, the fact that it was a tangible place that neither of them seemed to be able to control or glean details about posed too many possible risks. Thus, with herself being occupied with the twins only Kain was suitable for exploring the hole embedded in the side of the castle. Kain cursed under his breath as he cracked his knuckles through his gauntlets and entered into the black abyss that stretched before him.

As he passed through the inky veil, the dungeon made itself felt. The walls were brick and there was somehow a decent amount of light inside despite their being no visible sources of it. Kain continued down the long hallway until he saw one of the three ‘cannon fodder mobs’ that you expect from RPGs. A single transparent blob of blue goo was slowly moving along the floor like an amoeba. As Kain neared it, the blob leapt towards him and impacted his waist.

There was no damage aside from a minor feeling of being pushed back.

As the slime hit him, Kain watched as it bounced off and jiggled for a bit before throwing itself at him again. This process repeated itself several times as Kain tried to gauge the potency of the Slime. Each time the monster hit him he lowered his expectations and power output, but even when he limited himself to the average strength and durability of a 15-year-old human male he found the Slime to be positively pathetic.

As the slime bounced off of him again, landed and began to jiggle, Kain powered up to his current limit and began to squeeze the Slime between his boot and the ground. With a popping and splashing sound, the Slime exploded like an overfilled water balloon and Kain was left trying to wipe the gunk off the bottom of his shoe. Kain decided against using his fists and feet from this point on and equipped a halberd. A smile flashed over his countenance and he let out a bemused chuckle.

“Time to see what this place can offer.”

After completely dominating the first floor and obliterating every Slime within, Kain was faced with a problem. He now had to face the ‘Boss Room’ but was absolutely certain that what was behind the ‘Boss Door’ was going to be a waste of his time.

“Well, I am never going to get any deeper if I don’t deal with the weak shit first…”

Kain begrudgingly opened the door and entered inside. The doors shut closed behind him and locked themselves up tight. In the center of the floor was a drain, and from that drain came a gush of fluid. Eventually the goo coalesced into the form of an oversized Slime with a crown made of yellow jelly on top of its gelatinous form.

“So… What are you supposed to be? A Big Slime? A Huge Slime? A King Slime? Please entertain me, because your kind are quite boring. To die in one hit from even a simple teenager’s power is pathetic. I do hope you manage to endure at least one of my blows.”

The larger than usual Slime monster jiggled with rage and began to bounce off the walls like it was in a pinball machine. With each impact of the walls the slime moved faster and faster until it reached a point where it began to take damage from its own actions. But it had to speed up! It had to kill the being that had butchered its subjects with such mercilessness! Even if it died, if it took out the monster that had invaded its home at the same time it would all be worth it! Finally, having reached the max speed it could go, the Huge Slime rocketed towards the Human at top speed.

“Time…”

By the time the King Slime realized something was wrong it was too late. The Human had seemingly maneuvered away at a speed even the King Slime couldn’t top and had moved all the way to the other side of the arena. In its place was a massive spike of magical ice that was dyed black by evil magic.

“…is on my side.”

The King Slime lacked any way to stop itself and impacted the spike at a speed high enough to instantly kill it.

*SPLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!*

The King Slime exploded as its surface membrane was ruptured and its gooey insides spread out in front of its projected path like a cone of amoebic gore. Kain was unimpressed, while also being incredibly impressed. To think a simple Slime would have such a desire to enact revenge!

*DING!*

A chime rung out throughout the room and the Governance Menu popped up in front of Kain.

{Congratulations! Due to a citizen of Darksol being the first to capture L1 of the Dungeon, all mobs in L1 are now partially loyal to the Darksol Empire!}

{In addition, as L1 is now under Darksol’s control, all entities in L1 will purposefully avoid killing and/or raping (when applicable) Darksol citizens that challenge L1!}

{Any citizen of a nation with animosity towards Darksol will be targeted with extreme prejudice until they become citizens of Darksol!}

{As a citizen of Darksol has conquered L1, the Royal Family of Darksol will gain the ability to customize L1 to their liking and all mobs and bosses in L1 will be altered by their new sovereign!}

{Dungeon Creatures cannot venture out onto the surface under normal means, but if Darksol is invaded then they will temporarily abandon the dungeon to fight off Darksol’s enemies.}

Kain looked over the list of alerts that had popped up from the Governance System, and after dismissing them Alexis’ voice echoed in his head from her usage of telepathy.

“Did you take over the first floor that slowly?”

“I was taking my time to make sure I got everything.” Kain retorted. “Did you see that too?”

“Yeah.” Alexis paused and sighed before continuing. “From what I am sensing from my familiars, everyone in our nation saw that.”

Kain stretched a bit and walked towards the doors that had appeared behind him and descended the stair to the next Level of the Dungeon.

“Well, they are about to see a hell of a lot more of those notifications. I’m gonna plant our flag in as many places as I can go before getting bored.”

Kain walked slowly down the stairs as he released an aura of intimidation. Once he reached the entry to the second floor, almost the entire Level’s forces had come to try and hold him back. The Goblins held their rusty weapons and pointed sticks and gazed upwards at the figure of Kain who towered over them menacingly as he stood several steps above them.

“Oh? Goblins? You dare to defy me, Kain? Know your place beneath my glorious feet, you evolutionary rejects!”

And with that, the slaughter began.

Only a few minutes had passed and Kain had already crushed the majority of the forces of Level 2. He slowly walked through the remains of the Goblin villages that now had the bodies of their former occupants strewn about the place, with one particularly durable Goblin having been sent flying into a watch tower with a hole in his green stomach. Swinging his halberd around like it was a baseball bat, Kain mercilessly hunted the Goblin men, women and children with a look of twisted glee. It had been a very long time since he had been able to fight by himself, and the older Kain, the side from before the fusion, was beginning to seep out from within.

“Come out, come out, wherever you are!”

Kain’s words struck fear into the naturally cowardly Goblins who fled for their lives as the towering butcher hunted them down like they were promiscuous teenagers in a slasher flick. Eventually there were no more Goblins left alive outside of the ‘Boss Room’ and Kain slowly regained the mental faculties he had acquired after the fusion.

Kain opened the door and walked inside while spitting venom at his own lack of control over his more brutal side.

“Damn it, Kain! Don’t let the dog out of the cage! You know that shit hits the fan when you let the dog out of the cage!”

As war drums sounded and an oversized Goblin leapt down from the ceiling, Kain merely rested his halberd on his shoulder and cocked his head.

“Fine. You know what? Let’s try it out once again. When was the last time I, we tried this? Ma-Ginotte? Or was it after that? Can’t fuckin’ remember anymore. Ha ha ha! Yeah… Let’s fuck shit up, right me?”

“Yeah, let’s try this out one more time, me. “

“Two Minds!”

“One Body!”

““Infinite Potential!””

The air inside the arena shifted drastically and Kain’s gaze became one filled with unimaginable cruelty and rage. The Goblin King panicked, and the Dungeon spawned in a small army of elite Goblins, all powered up clones of the zone bosses from Level 2. Kain merely let his twisted gaze sweep over the now terrified Goblins and dropped his halberd to the floor as he wound himself up for the slaughter to come. His truly darker side was now fully released, and there was truly no hope left for the soon-to-be-deposed little green monarch.

“Heh heh heh heh! Time to cut loose, is it? You shits are gonna make some noise, whether you want to or not! SCREAM TO BE HEARD, ‘CAUSE THE DOG IS OUTTA THE CAGE!”
