Chapter 9 – Wulu

Hanz paid the money and then, the beautiful girl brought Hanz to the sheep beast egg section. There were about six eggs there. “Are all these eggs the sheep beast egg?” Hanz asked.

A normal sheep would give birth to a new sheep but a sheep beast was not like that. Not only sheep beast, all species of beast lay eggs. The reason was unknown but none of them gave birth to a new child beast.

According to research, when a male and female beast bred, the male beast would leave a lot of their mana inside the female beast. The female beast would then use that mana and combine it with her mana.

After that, a new different type of mana was created inside the female beast. The new mana would then be discharged out of the female beast and formed an egg. The egg would then be the beast egg. Due to the combination of two different types of mana between the male and female beast, the child beast born would be a stronger species combination of the parents.

However, that only happened if the male and female beast was of different species or had different characteristics in their body. If the parents were of the same species and characteristics, the child would be the same as the parent.

“Yes. Just choose whichever you like,” said the beautiful girl. Hanz went to each of the eggs and carefully inspected each of them. The beautiful girl was smiling while looking at Hanz. She knew why Hanz did that but whatever he did, it was futile.

There was no way to know which egg would give birth to a better beast. Everything would be based on luck. If Hanz was lucky, he would get at least a sheep beast with two secondary gene slots and a few supporting gene slots. If Hanz was unlucky, he would get only one secondary gene slot and maybe none supporting gene slots.

Hanz sighed after he had done his inspection. “Urm, they are all the same. Is it really based on luck?” Hanz asked the beautiful girl. He hoped that the girl could help him. Even so, the girl shook her head and confirmed that it really was based on luck.

Without much choice, Hanz chose the closest egg from him. Nothing unusual about the egg. It looked the same as the other eggs. Hanz made his payment and put the egg in his space ring. He checked the time and it was late.

Hanz went to a small inn to stay the night. If he wanted to save money, he could go back home but he insisted on not doing that. He had started his journey and going back home would hurt his pride. Hanz ate his dinner at the inn and went to his room.

Once he got inside his room, Hanz checked his skills and found out the system skill had stabilized again while taming and item storage had stabilized too. “The system skill stabilized so fast,” thought Hanz but he was happy that it was like that because he could learn more skill.

With the three skills stabilized, Hanz used the skill orb to increase their level. The system skill’s level increased to three and his skill slot increased by one. As for taming skill, the percentage of taming zero rank beast increased from 10% to 20% at level 2.

As for the item storage skill, [Choose your upgrade. 1. Slot+1. 2. Capacity double] Hanz touched his chin as he was thinking what he should upgrade. After a few seconds, Hanz decided to increase the capacity. He got an idea on how to solve the storage problem.

At the moment, Hanz had too many skill orbs with him. The skill orbs, his new clothes, and many other things he bought that day were put in the space ring. Inside the item storage was the five S rank skill orbs.

The space ring was not as secure as the item storage. With only that single space ring, someone could rob him of the space ring and get everything inside and he would lose a lot of money and maybe his life too.

Since Hanz had a new skill slot, he decided to use that skill slot for another space ring. Since he duplicated the space ring, he had many of them and he could level up the space ring easily. He would use one of the space rings to store all the skill orbs while the other for other things. The space ring with skill orbs would be stored inside the item storage while he wore the other space ring.

Hanz leveled up both space rings to level 5 and both had the 125 cubic meter space inside them. He could level up more but Hanz decided to stop because that space was more than enough at the moment. Once he needed more space, he would level up the ring again. He also found out that increasing the item level that fast did not affect him at all.

Hanz put the storage ring with the skill orbs inside his item storage which was now with higher capacity from 5 items or 5kg to 10 items or 10kg. His item storage was empty too because he put all the skill orbs inside the space ring.

Hanz was satisfied with his decision. If he needed the skill orbs, he would take them out when he was by himself. If not, he would just let them be in his item storage. With all of that done, Hanz took out the sheep beast egg.

The huge white egg was in front of Hanz. The egg was as tall as his knee. “All I need is my blood. The shop girl said that I don’t need much blood. A single drop is fine,” thought Hanz and he bit his thumb.

Getting a good beast from an egg was all based on luck but there was something good about getting a beast this way and that was the beast’s complete loyalty. Using the blood to hatch the egg was done because the beast inside the egg would use the blood as an indicator to determine its parent. Due to that, the beast would be loyal to anyone that hatched it.

If a beast tamer used the taming skill to tame a beast, there was a chance they could fail because the skill itself had a success rate percentage when taming a beast. However, hatching a beast would let them gain a 100% success rate in taming the beast. No matter the beast, dragons, kirin, dinosaur, and many others all would be loyal to them.

Even so, getting a good beast from an egg was all luck. If the beast tamer was lucky, he could get a good one. If not, then, they could accept the beast or kill them or maybe threw them away and searched for a better beast.

As for Hanz, though he wanted a good beast, if he got a bad beast, he would still accept it because that was his first beast. If that beast was weak, he could find a better beast later because he did not have the heart to abandon it.

“No matter if you have many gene slots or not, I will accept you,” said Hanz and he dropped his blood on the beast egg. A drop of blood fell from Hanz’s thumb towards the beast egg. Once the blood touched the egg, the blood was absorbed by the egg.

Once the blood was absorbed, nothing else happened. “Hmm? That’s it?” Hanz thought that something magical would happen but it did not seem like that. One minute, two minutes, three minutes. Nothing happened.

“How long do I need to wait?” Hanz wondered. Since it looked like it would take a while, Hanz decided to do something else… No, Hanz tried to find something else to do but there was nothing he could do. In the end, he decided to sleep. The night went on peacefully and the egg had a small crack.

The morning sun shone brightly and it entered the inn’s window and hit on Hanz's face. “Urgh~ so bright,” thought Hanz, he raised his arm to block the sunlight. Hanz tried to move his body when suddenly, he felt something was beside him. Hanz was stunned when he saw a fluffy wool at his side.

“What the?” Hanz sat on his bed immediately and saw a small sheep sleeping at his side. “…” Hanz was speechless. He looked at the egg and the egg was gone. “So, this is my beast?” thought Hanz when suddenly the system let out a notification.

[Tamed the beast? 100% success rate]

“… Yes,” said Hanz, and the sheep by his side slightly shone and then, a new notification came from the system. [Taming successful] after that a row of data about the sheep beast was shown by the system.

Looking at the sheep beast status, Hanz sighed. “Well, I guess I will just make do with whatever I have,” said Hanz while he was reading the sheep beast stat. As for if he was lucky or not, he was unlucky. He had the thought that he used most of his luck when he got the duplication space skill.

“One secondary gene and two supporting gene slots… Well, if I can find the gene addition material, I can increase the slot. No problem,” Hanz tried to be positive. He knew that there was a type of material that could increase the gene slot of a beast. If he could get them, with the duplication space skill, he could increase the gene slot without much problem.

While he was looking at the sheep status, the sheep beast woke up. “Beek~” The sheep made a sound at Hanz. Hanz looked at the sheep and he patted the sheep’s head. The sheep loved the pat and he made another sound and nudged his head softly at Hanz.

“Haha, aren’t you affectionate?” Hanz smiled. He likes the sheep he just tamed. Though the sheep was weaker and smaller than him at the moment because it was newborn, Hanz found it cute. “Your name will be…” Hanz thought for a few seconds, “Wulu,” said Hanz.

It looked like Wulu understood Hanz and it happily made a sound agreeing with the name. “So, it is true that the tamed beast can understand their tamer,” thought Hanz, he petted Wulu again and focused back on Wulu’s stat. Wulu was quite small probably because it was newborn. He was as big as an adult cat.

For the beast to become stronger, they needed to increase their rank. To increase their rank, they relied on one characteristic called gene. Gene was a source of power for the beast to strengthen themselves. No matter the beast type, the gene they had was their main strength.

Gene had a certain count and maxing this count could help the beast reaching the next rank and overall increasing their power. How much gene count the beast had depended on many things such as their grade and gene quality.

Looking at the grade of Wulu, Hanz nodded because he knew that a basic beast like Wulu would be grade E. The grade would determine how much the core gene count of the beast. Since Wulu was grade E, he got the lowest gene count a core gene could get.

The grade was determined by how much change a beast had compared to their basic ancestors. For example, Wulu was a sheep beast which was a basic beast and thus had the lowest grade E. However, a blue sheep beast was grade D-1 because it had one physical change that happened compared to a basic sheep.

Due to the change, the blue sheep beast would have a higher core gene count compared to a basic sheep and thus, they would be stronger than a basic sheep.

For a D grade beast, the amount of physical change they had when they were born determined either they were grade D-1, D-2 or D-3. If a beast had an elemental change in their body, rather than D grade, they would be either C for one elemental, B for two elemental, or A for three elementals.

After that, if the elemental beast had physical changes, they would be classified under grade C-1, C-2, or C-3. The same went to grade B and Grade A beast. Beasts with higher grades were not rare but they were stronger and thus, harder to tame.

For someone as weak as Hanz, all he could tame was a basic beast like Wulu, and maybe if he was lucky, a D-1 grade beast.
