Chapter 10 – Gene
Inside the beast, genes were separated into three types. First was the core gene. The core gene was the main gene of the beast. It would always be the species of the beast.
For example, a fire dragon beast would have a core gene of fire dragon while a silver butterfly beast would have a silver butterfly gene. The core gene could not be changed to another gene unless the beast underwent the super rare evolution.
The core gene count could not be raised using items or foods. The only way to raise it was by cultivation. The beast needed to cultivate by itself to increase the gene count. How fast the gene would increase was based on the beast’s potential. Since Wulu had E potential, it would take quite a while to fill the gene count.
One gene increased for a core gene would give the beast an increase in any stat by one point. The point would not be increased randomly but the tamer or the beast could choose which stat they wanted to increase.
“With only 100 gene counts, it will be hard for you to fight higher grade beasts,” said Hanz while he petted Wulu’s head.
The second type was the secondary gene. A beast could have a maximum of 5 secondary genes. In the history of Beazion, there was never a beast with a 6 or higher secondary gene. Even the one with 5 secondary genes was scarce. However, those beasts with 5 secondary genes would usually be super powerful. They could destroy a kingdom by itself if they were at an appropriate rank.
The core gene was the identity of the beast but the secondary gene was the gene that could mask the real identity of the beast. If a beast added a new secondary gene, they would undergo mutation. However, the mutation would not affect the grade of the beast.
For example, a dragon beast had the core gene of a dragon and the grade would be E because a dragon was a basic animal in Beazion. For the dragon to become a fire dragon, it needed to have the fire gene as the secondary gene.
After the dragon had the fire gene for the secondary gene, it would undergo mutation but only physically. The core gene remained unchanged but the dragon would now be a fire dragon appearance-wise.
However, if the dragon with fire gene were to fight a fire dragon, the dragon might be at a disadvantage because a true fire dragon was grade C while the dragon was still graded E.
The third type of gene was the supporting gene. If the secondary gene were helping the core gene, the supporting gene on the other hand was helping the secondary gene. If a flow chart were to be made, under the core gene was the secondary gene and under the secondary gene would be the supporting gene.
Same as the secondary gene, a beast could only have 5 supporting genes under a secondary gene. If a beast had 3 secondary genes, they could have a maximum of 15 supporting genes with each secondary gene having 5 supporting genes.
As stated earlier, the supporting gene was used to help the secondary gene. That meant, the supporting gene’s function was to strengthen the secondary gene.
Using the same example as earlier, the dragon with a fire gene would be at a disadvantage against a true fire dragon. However, it could defeat the fire dragon if the dragon had the right supporting gene to strengthen its fire. For example, it could get itself a heat gene to support the fire gene to increase the firepower or maybe get another fire gene to support the fire gene.
The same as the core gene, the secondary and supporting gene had their gene count too. However, the basic count for the secondary gene was halved the basic count of the core gene while the supporting gene would be halved the secondary gene.
Other than that, the secondary and supporting gene gave a lower amount of stat for each increase in gene count. 0.1 per gene for secondary gene while 0.01 for supporting gene. Also, the secondary and supporting gene could only give a specific stat increase unlike the core gene.
For example, a fire secondary gene could only increase the strength stat and fire affinity stat by 0.1 per gene. No matter what, only these two stats would be increased. The beast or the tamer had no control over which stat would increase. Due to that, the beast or the tamer would choose the most suitable gene to strengthen the beast.
The gene count for the core gene depended on the grade of the beast but it was different for the secondary and supporting gene. To determine the gene counts they had, it would be based on the quality of the gene the beast added. The higher the quality, the more the gene count it had.
Due to that, the gene count for the secondary and supporting gene would always be higher than the core gene because every time the beast rank increased, the quality of the gene increased and thus increasing the gene count a lot more unlike the core gene that would also increased but not as much as the two types of gene.

Hanz checked Wulu personal status and Wulu had lower stats than him. It was understandable because Wulu was a newborn. “Well then Wulu, you must be hungry. Let’s eat and then, we will search for a gene essence or gene reagent to give you new genes,” said Hanz while smiling at Wulu.
“Beek~” Wulu made a sound agreeing to Hanz.
“But… can you eat human food?” Hanz asked and Wulu nodded shocking Hanz. “For real? You were just born and you know if you can eat human’s food?” Hanz asked again because he found it weird. Wulu nodded and made many sounds but Hanz could not understand what Wulu was trying to say.
“Hmm… I want to give you human food but you are still a baby and I am afraid you will get sick. So, can you wait a bit? I will find you a suitable food,” Hanz said and Wulu agreed. “He is really loyal to me,” thought Hanz while smiling at Wulu. “Not bad, maybe I should hatch more beast rather than taming the wild ones.”
“Beast cannot wander around in this town, so, I will put you in the beast space. Just wait for me there. Ok?” Hanz made an ok sign with his hand and Wulu with his cute face nodded. Hanz felt a bit guilty putting Wulu in the beast space.
The beast space was a skill especially to store beast. Beasts came in many sizes and shapes. Due to that, some of them became too big that it would be a problem for many people if they were let roaming free, and thus, the beast space became useful. No matter the size or shape of the beast, the tamer could store them there.
How was it like inside the beast space? Most beasts disliked it because they were not free. According to some beast tamer that could perfectly understand their beast, the beast said that the space in the beast space was just enough for them to sit. They could not move at all and it was uncomfortable.
However, the beast space had other uses and that was healing. Any beast stored inside the beast space would be healed by the skill if the skill had a high enough level. How fast and how much they were healed was based on the type of upgrade the tamer determined when the skill leveled up.
“I should learn the special dimension fast so that I can put my beast there,” thought Hanz. He did not want the beast to suffer inside the cramped beast space. Hanz called out Wulu’s name and stored him in the beast space. He could not leave Wulu unattended inside the room because he was afraid that Wulu might cause trouble. Hanz checked the skill and saw a pixelated Wulu on the system screen.
“This is quite similar to Pokeball,” said Hanz and he called Wulu out again because he wanted to take a shower first. He felt uncomfortable going out without having a shower. Once he was done, Hanz stored Wulu back inside the beast space and went out of the room.
Hanz had his breakfast at the inn and went to the beast's shop to buy Wulu some food. Since Wulu was a sheep, he bought Wulu some grass. He could go out of the town and let Wulu eat the grass at the prairie but that would be a lot of work since he still had some business to be done in the town.
Hanz chose the nearby beast shop and bought a few kilograms of grass for Wulu. He was not sure if Wulu loved green grass or dried grass but he bought both of them and saw which one Wulu preferred.
Hanz went back to the inn and took out Wulu as well as both the green and dried grass. He let Wulu eat the grass and found out Wulu preferred the green grass or maybe fresh grass. “Hmm~ I should use the duplication space and make lots of fresh grass for Wulu later,” thought Hanz. He did not need to worry about his beast food because of duplication space. Even when he broke, he would have more than enough food for his beast.
Once Wulu had his meal, Hanz was surprised to see that Wulu was getting bigger. Not that much but it could be seen with the naked eye that Wulu was bigger. If he had the size of a normal cat before, Wulu was now as big as an adult Samoyed.
Hanz checked Wulu status and found out that Wulu stats had increased a lot. He stared at Wulu surprisingly and looking at Wulu’s white fluffy wool, Hanz could not help but imagine how comfortable it would be if he could sleep hugging Wulu.
Hanz shook his head and put Wulu back in the beast space. “Time to power up my Wulu. Gene essence or gene reagent, here I come,” Hanz was more fired up to make Wulu stronger. However, he stopped for a bit and called Wulu out again.
“Wulu, what gene do you want as your secondary gene?” Hanz had no experience in choosing a gene and thought that asking Wulu might help. He knew that all the beasts were intelligent and Wulu was the same too.
He had also read in a book before that even if a tamer had their choice of a gene for their beast, their beast might have another gene in mind. It was better to discuss the matter properly with their beast or else conflict between the tamer and beast might happen.
When a conflict happened, the beast might not obey the tamer and that would cause a lot of problems. There was a case where the beast got so angry with its tamer that it destroyed a town in anger. Luckily, no one was hurt and the tamer needed to pay for all the damage done and he went bankrupt overnight.
Those things would not happen between Hanz and Wulu because Wulu obeyed him 100% due to Hanz hatching him from an egg but Hanz was not that heartless to force his choice onto someone else and that included his beast. He wanted his beast to be happy and letting Wulu make his own choice might be a good idea to make Wulu happy.
“Beek~” Wulu said but Hanz could not understand Wulu.
“Hmm…” Hanz was thinking, “How about this, if you agree, beek two times. If not, one time,” Hanz said to Wulu.
“Beek~ Beek~” Wulu ‘beek’ two times meant he agreed. Hanz was smiling because Wulu indeed understands him.
“Well then, let us first determine which route you want to take. Do you want to focus on attacking?” Hanz asked Wulu.
“Beek~” Wulu said no and he shook his head too.
“Okay then, how about defence?”
“Beek~ Beek~” Wulu agreed but it looked like it wanted to say something else and Hanz decided to continue with his suggestion. Hanz asked about speed but Wulu said no and lastly, Hanz asked about support, and Wulu agreed.
It looked like Wulu wanted to take the defensive or support route. Hanz was thinking about what route he should take. “Hmm… Should I just take both routes but I should not be greedy and only choose one route,” thought Hanz.
