9 Rebuilding ruins

It was pretty clear that the obelisk was about to do something. Now granted, the knight was busy dressing her wounds and the shepherd… well ok, the shepherd was not busy with anything really. But had either of them paid attention, they would've seen the black blood slowly draining into the obelisk. Perhaps they would've noticed the carvings blacken slightly.

That is however, not what occurred.

Instead the two of them were sitting right next to the obelisk when it began violently trembling. Although this is not something that negatively impacts them in any way, the both of them would've preferred not being anywhere near the obelisk while this is happening.

In fact, they are both scrambling away; The knight because she was at first sitting down before she transitioned to sprinting. The shepherd because he fell tripped as he began to run away with quite a few swears leaving him in the process.

As they scramble over a few hills, the knight peeks her head out, to keep an eye on the shaking monument. The shaking which has lessened so much the thing is practically still. The top of the obelisk unfolds and an orb of black within a construct made of sandstone is harmlessly shot into the air.

In hindsight, perhaps it was better that the two of them retreated. The construct which is not as harmless as was first thought begins rotating around the black orb. Lenses set within the sandstone focus beams of blackness towards the ground, moving in a pattern around the obelisk, painting the ground. Except where the beams touch the ground, the ground is transformed into sandstone bricks.

Concentric circles of brickwork are placed, the grass still peeking through the cracks. A floor is laid and pillars are built, some already broken. Parts of the hills are excavated to make a flat area. Some of the full pillars get brickwork added on top of them. Finally a stone doorway is made, tilted downwards in one of the hills, in the direction of the cube.

The orb descends and enters the doorway, to begin building up the inside of whatever it is making.

The knight and shepherd watch in awe as the whole process occurs within the span of 30 seconds. An entire ruin appears out of nowhere, beamed into existence.

Their awe quickly morphs into other emotions, frustration and annoyance in the shepherd, curiosity and trepidation in the knight.

After a minute of silence, the knight speaks up.

"Let's go check it out."

She gets up and begins walking towards the newly-formed ancient ruins.

The shepherd grumbles a bit before getting up and catching up with a little jog.

The knight takes a quick look around and after seeing mainly old sandstone she steps into the doorway. The shepherd raises a middle finger at the sky and follows after.

As the knight and the shepherd step underground, far above them in the black, something is contemplating.

A great being made of blackness is looking down on the speck of reality where three of its creations fell. It's sunk deep in thought when a multitude of eyes open all over its body. Each is slightly different in coloration.

HMM, WHAT IS… AH I DIDN'T SEE YOU BEFORE…

The eyes close, one by one now that it has found its quarry. The thing makes a decision.

NO, THIS WILL NOT DO

The blackness deepens and vibrates until finally it touches something.

It changes a being who has been here from the very start, just like it was. It grants knowledge, identity. I… I! I become more than I was. Personality, a flare for the dramatic, the capability for hate and love and… It's- it made me. It made me.

THERE, FAR BETTER
