23 Silver Wolf

23 Silver Wolf

As the spider-thing whirls and screeches in pain, odd images and sounds overwhelm my mind. The beast is blasting out emotion and speech, making me feel alert and wary. I don't know what to do right now. It's clear the beast is being attacked by something, but it's flailing wildly; I can't get closer without being smacked in the face. I'm scared, but for some reason I'm not frozen in fear.

I get up from the lotus position I took when I approached this thing and walk around it, staying out of its reach. The Knight is calling out after me but I can't hear her, besides there's more important things to do. Right now, that is getting the metallic silver wolf savaging the spider off of it.

Green ichor leaks out from the carapace where the wolf clamps down. It does not even attempt to remain standing upright, rolling along with the flailing of the spider as it keeps its grip. When I see a chance, I dart forward, grab onto the tail of the wolf and pull back. My plan is flawless in that I'm just out of range of the back legs of the spider. Sadly, the wolf's tail isn't.

As the spider lashes out, I am flung from the tail. My momentary flight is short as I impact against a lantern, which I only manage to just hang on to as I teeter on the brink of the street. With a side that's going to be all purples and blues tomorrow I leap back up.

As I approach, at the same time Knight approaches me to stop me, I get ready to pull the thing off again, shouting: "Let go, you piece of shit".

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

The Knight goes to intercept me, placing her staff in my way as she stands between me and the spider. I'm lucky I don't have to attempt to get past that staff again, because that wasn't going to happen; What does happen is that the wolf listens to me.

That is to say, the vicious predator with sharpened claws and knife for teeth steps back, sits down and starts wagging its tail.

The Knight turns to look over her shoulder, where the spider has stopped its flailing and is now backing away from the wolf while facing towards it; Acid is dripping from its mandibles, melting away the ground where drops land. She turns back to face me with a frown. "I am sorry, but I can't let you walk into your death."

I raise an eyebrow at her. "I thought you weren't go- aahfuck" She raises an eyebrow right back, before she gently touches the side where I impacted against a lantern with the crook.

"Alright, point taken." The spider has stopped moving and the wolf is sitting still, tongue hanging out of its mouth with a vacant look in its eyes; It seems I have time to argue.

"But anyway, this just shows I was right. The spider isn't dangerous, it just got hurt." The knight looks back at the spider, considering for a moment. She sighs and lowers the crook. "Alright, I suppose. Keep your distance."

I withstand the urge to roll my eyes and approach again, sitting down in front of the spider once more; This time slightly further away. All in all, it seems I'm making a decent impression, not only am I not being eaten, I also receive a vision of the spider giving me a silken shirt; Progress!
