Chapter 23: Discussion

Ken walks into the room where all his colleagues are standing and waiting on him.

“The interviewee was great, but…” I start to raise doubts.

”I’m not sure if he’s the right fit for the role, perhaps he will be much better suited elsewhere” I argue.

My colleagues nodded their heads in unison. They trust me completely after all, despite not holding a senior position in the company. I was an ever-reliable and highly competent employee who is worth every penny that they paid me.

Therefore I never faltered to sound off my true thoughts and feelings on every matter regardless of how politically incorrect it may come across. I had the respect and admiration of many within the organisation.

The rest of the meeting is the same routine that has been repeated hundreds of times. I would spare even my worst enemy from listening in.

After the meeting, I took a sip of my now room temperature coffee. It is still fantastic.

I check my emails thoroughly and promptly replied to about ten of the most urgent ones with grace. Then, I needed a break so I went to the Yahoo! News website to catch up on the latest happenings. It is still considered working. I guess I can count myself to be very lucky to have the flexibility to zone out during moments like these.

”Athereal Corporation goes into liquidity crisis after the bankruptcy of the second major real estate firm in the city.” The top headlines flashed on the website.

“Oh no…” Ken gasped and accidentally topples his coffee. Something is brewing.
