A Tale of Two Worlds ii : Cursed Wheel

Chapter vi : Bloodless Vampire

"Is there anything that bugs your mind? Besides... that erectile dysfunction of yours..." Dr. Antonette Vengurwer said, looking at her paper in hand. She crossed her white legs and shifted her bangs with the pencil that she took from her desk.

What am I doing here, you ask? I've been tasked to investigate this Psychic Vampire that Yeng accuses to "suck" the life and happiness out of her patients. I too, want to be sucked. But in a different way, of course.

There have been a rumor around here in Misdergis that all of her patients die and no one who have entered her clinic who came out alive. And by the way, this is the only, yes, ONLY clinic there is here on Thear. And she is the only doctor here. Apparently, she was the first. And nasty rumors have come with it.

"I know that this 'erectile dysfunction' of yours is not true, judging by the buldge down you pants." Dr. Antonette said, looking on my pants. "Tell me, what is bothering you. I can see the weight on your shoulders."

I immediately removed my bag from my shoulders as a pun. "No, not that wei-." she sighed as her palm met her face. "Something's wrong about you, and you know that. I can see it through your humor. And stop undressing me with those eyes... I feel.... uncomfortable..." Dr. Antonette said as she hid her face with her paper, only showing her dark red hair.

How can she know that? "Uhmm.... I don't know...."

"You can tell me anything." She placed the paper on her desk and carried her chair to get close to me. "The difference between me and an acolyte is that I work for my own sake and you get what you pay for."

I can't get my eyes off from her small cleavage when she leaned towards me. "I.... ugh...."

"I won't tell anyone." She sat, crossed legged once again with her friendly but awkward smile. "Keeping those thoughts inside you is like recruiting an archer to shoot you on a certain date by surprise. It will kill you. Not literally." Her dark brown eyes looked up the ceiling and then to me. "But, you do get my point." Dr. Antonette smiled.

I sighed deeply. I'm here to investigate her, not to have a psychiatrist check up on my well being. And yeah, I can't seem to imagine that such a nice person as her drain life from people. I mean, come on.

Since I'm here, might as well lighten up my load..

"You see.. there's this girl that I just met. She lost her family but her friend sacrificed all she have and heck, she even sold herself to be a slave of a certain Lord down Osniton." I lied. I can't just say that Gretzel went full-on Dark Side when Lorice took her body. "I met her down the alley, she was shot by an arrow on her stomach. And with such an injury, she could not fight those whose harrasing her. I don't want to help her, actually. Since I don't want to hurt anyone anymore..."

"But you thought that you have to, right?" The red haired doctor said, her eyes were glimmering. "Even though you don't like it, you saved her. You know that you are no "White Knight" material, but you still did."

"Yeah..." I forced a smile. "So I took her home and treated her wounds. And my friends and step-sister were swooned over her since, well, she's different."

 "Different?" She asked.

Shiiiiitt.... come on Albert, think of something.......

"She's high born. Daughter of a Liege Lord that she never said.. also she's from the Inner City of Osniton." Which is true. The Inner City was where all the Lords of What-Have-You lives while the Outer Town was where the normal people lives. Or what they call 'Low Born'. People with no titles nor lands. Most of them were slaves but since King Ezmond started ruling, he freed them all. But some still secretly sell humans as if they were merchandise.

"I see. And this girl... what is her name?"

 Crap.

"Milly." I blurted out of nowhere.

 "You love her, don't you."

I instantly thought of Milly's smug face everytime she makes me remember how crazy I was for her back then. "What!? No! Milly's just a friend!"

Dr. Antonette raised a brow as she crossed her arms. "You're thinking of a different person. Why would you even lie about this girl's name?"

"She's.... kinda popular and her name's...."

"Okay, okay. But I think that you DO love her. I mean, the way you look earlier. But this Milly girl.. you can't love two people at the same time, Albert." The way she said my name sent a chill down my spine. And my... you know.

"Okay!!! I admit! I like them both."

 "LOOOOOOOOVEEEE." She teased.

 "Okay okay okayyyy!!!"

 She laughed. "Go on."

I think I have a stupid reddish face right now. "So we spent days together on my apart- I mean, house."

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

"What did your parents say about her?"

 "My parents... they..."

"It's okay, tell me." She said, placing her hand on my shoulder.

I took another deep sigh. "Okay... my dad died in a accident. But I don't think that it was really an accident. And having inherited all his.... gold. And..... his.... castles.... I became Lord of this small town.."

"Oooohhh... Lord Albert. What town is this?"

"Ehhhh... it's... it's so small it's not on the map. More of like, a clan."

Seeing through the lies on my details, she sucked her pencil and then when she pulled it off her mouth, it made a popping sound. "And your Lord Mother remarried? You said have a step-sister."

"Yes. They were two. They were daughters of her new husband. Mother now lives on the castle that her husband owns and left me alone.."

"Lord Albert." She said sarcastically. "Why did you leave the warm walls of your castle and your step-sister and this Milly girl?" She probably knew I don't want to talk about my mother.

"I want to find her. I don't know... the house feels so different without her. I looked for her for a week on the... town... but I didn't find her."

 "So you left."

"And someone said that she was taken as a.... slave. " Not exactly. But Devii said that she was held as a prisoner on the dungeons of Osniton. She was being kept alive and Devii said that Lorice wants her to rule Osniton while being her puppet.

She raised her eyebrow once again. "So you want to save her. Where is she?"

 "Inner City of Osniton."

She whistled as she laid back on her chair. "That's leagues from north here in Misdergis. You do love her."

 "I guess...."

 .......

 ...

"That's it?" Yeng said as she stood from her chair.

The flames from the hearth could no longer keep us warm so we started wearing more layers of clothing. I also changed my clothes to adapt in this world and avoid questions. Except for the 2/4 witch, 1/4 human and 1/4 elf, who was reading her grimoire, memorizing her incantations with her goggles on. She probably has bad eyesight. Why can't she just use her magic to cure her eyes. And yeah, she says that witches never feels too cold nor too warm.

 "That's it." I said.

"You just had a heart to heart talk with a monster!" Yeng said, her voice boomed.

"She's no monster. She just want to help people!" I answered.

 "Help people die!"

 "You don't have evidence!"

 "I do!"

Loraine then started whispering an incantation. Even with the pendant on my chest, I could still not understand a word that she said.

"What is she doing?" I asked.

"A spell to remove hearing." Yeng laughed softly. "Bitch probably got irritated from our shoutings." Then her face turned towards me. The whole room from the inn started to vanish. The two beds, the clock, the fireplace, the wooden floor, everything. And all I could see was her face. "Have you noticed the trees and plants around her house?"

I tried my best to remember it. "The trees and plants were withered. What of it?"

She sighed. "When she doesn't have humans to drain, she goes for the trees to feed."

"But winter is just a few days away, right?"

"Right. But have you seen the other trees around? Aren't they lively?"

That was when she walked outside the inn with her katana placed on her hip. I followed her, leaving the witch on the room.

When I walked outside the door, not even her shadow was left. I ran but she was already gone.

I ran as fast as I could towards Dr. Antonette's clinic. It was hard to run with this long jacket that I bought on a weird store that sells stuff from "different worlds".

When I got to the clinic, I was too late. The doctor's blood was all over the floor and so was her head. And next to it was a child, not about four to five years old.

"You were right." Yeng said with blood on her face. She wiped it with the back of her hand. "Dr. Antonette was innocent. She only feeds on the trees..."

"But why did you kill her.... and this child...."

"Psychic Vampires cannot learn on feeding from other sources except from humans until they reach adulthood. That's why the child must be killed. But Dr. Antonette thought of it not....." Yenfersteria said, her eyes red. But not from blood.
