Chapter 3: The Arrival of the Blue Screens

Chapter 3: The Arrival of the Blue Screens

“KILL ME!!! KILL MEE!!!!” Jason was shouting at the top of his lungs as he laid on the ground making dust angels. Everytime he ate one of those fruits the pain came again. Although it got less and less each time it still hurt like hell. Jason had already eaten seven of those damn things and he could proudly say he didn’t puke anymore each time.

Now there was simply pain and although it wasn’t enough to knock him unconscious he had to lay down and try to get the infernal energy out of him somehow. Which is how he came to be making dust angels while screaming at the top of his lungs.

“HI HO, HI HO, I’M FUCKING TIRED OF THIS. LALALA LA LA LALALA LA LA HI HO HI HOOO.”

After a few more minutes of inane singing and screaming Jason got up and dusted himself off. I hope I eventually won’t even need to do that after eating one of those fruits. At least I only need to eat one every two cycles. Jason had ended up calling one “day”, him sleeping then waking up, a “cycle” because he could never actually tell if it was a day or not. Could’ve been twenty hours or it could’ve been thirty. Frankly he didn’t care all that much.

Those fruits on the other hand he did care about. He cared about them a LOT. An entire fruit got rid of three cycles of hunger and thirst and also filled him with energy. The only reason he didn’t eat one every three cycles was because he did that from the second cycle to the third cycle and he almost died. It seemed like he was now dependent on the fruit.

He wasn’t too happy about that as they tasted like shit and obtaining an addiction had never been on his to-do list but food is food and that’s what he needed right now. I wish I hadn’t puked on those boots. Jason’s feet were calloused and hard at this point. After spending what he assumed to be days of walking and standing on his bare feet his feet had hardened and roughened. Though they still would’ve been bleeding and probably infected if those blue fruits hadn’t come along.

The healing of my entire body is the best thing about these fruits. I still hate them, but also I love them. Mixed feelings much Jason? Jason chuckled to himself and put the two remaining fanny packs on and grabbed the two knives he had. He hadn’t actually had to use them yet but no reason to not bring along protection. Not like I COULD use them. Jason smiled and just started walking.

The caves must've been a goddamn maze because Jason had been going for fifteen cycles, since the first fruit, and he still had not been able to find his way out. It would take a stupid amount of luck for him to be able to find the damn exit. Yet he could only keep searching.

Jason sighed looking around at the darkness. This is gonna take forever.

“Uuggghhhhh,” Jason was sitting down looking at torture fruit number twelve. He only had three of these things left, two after eating this one, so he either needs to find the exit in six cycles or he’s basically dead. Well fuck me. This is stupid.

Bringing it up to his lips he took a bite. Then another and then another. Eventually he had eaten the entire fruit and then started to gear himself up for the pain that at this point it would be minimal.

He was wrong.

Mutherfucker. Why does it feel like the first time? Oh god oh god oh GOD AAAAHHHH...ahhh...hah? The pain was gone. In an instant he felt normal again. Even better than normal actually. As he was looking at his body which felt unnaturally energetic (even more unnaturally energetic than usual when he ate these) he saw something pop up in front of his eyes.

Requisite Mana Acquired…

Initialized.

That was all. Just that. I know what’s going on here. It’s like an rpg for god’s sake. What anime or game planet is this? Where the hell did I get transported to? Also… why did I only get that? No level up no interface no anything. I didn’t even get a peek at my status… oh there it is. Through his own fumbling Jason managed to bring up the more important blue screen.

Oh yay… No talents and no skills. I’m essentially worthless. Jason rolled his eyes and got up. At least now I can tell how many hours it’s been based on my stamina regeneration. Well health regen to but hopefully not that one. I don’t have any mana abilities or ways to use mana so that regen isn’t exactly useful right now.

In fact can I actually use any of this information right now other than as a time reference. He stood there and sighed. I guess my time to shine and blow everyone away hasn’t arrived yet. Then with confidence that he should not possess he started moving once more with the last two fruits.

It doesn’t really matter if I got these screens or was introduced into the… system? Is that what it’s called? Probably. Anyway, it doesn’t matter. After all I still just have to find the exit to this damn place in six cycles. I have no skills to help me and no abilities or really any clue on how to get those abilities. So I might as well just keep searching.

Jason started his progression through the cave system while keeping an eye on his stamina which he checked occasionally.

After a few hours of searching his stamina was getting dangerously low, five at this point, and he was also getting exhausted. Which really actually makes sense now that I think about it. So he decided to find a place to rest and closed another cycle.

Just five left now or I’m dead.
