Chapter 23: Suit of the Debonair

Chapter 23: Suit of the Debonair

Suit of the Debonair (Type: Clothing/Armour/Soulbound)

A suit made entirely from the skin of a specialized variant of the Adult Giant Furcifer. This variant specialized in charming and enticing it’s prey with colors and patterns before brutally ripping them apart with its teeth. The suit has inherited some of these properties and due to the expert enchantmenting it has become Soulbound. A blessing and a curse.

Entice:

* The effects of charisma while wearing this suit are boosted by 5%

* Everytime the soul of the bound one increases in density the boost is increased by an additional 5%

* Twice every five waking periods the bound one is able to boost their raw charisma stat by 10

* A waking period is a period in which the bound one uses up at least five hundred stamina, health, or mana. Some combination of the three is also acceptable

* Everytime the soul of the bound one increases in density the boost is increased by an additional 10 stat points

Teeth of Steel:

* Once the suit transforms into War mode the bottom half of the bound one’s face is covered by the bones of the furcifer in a skin tight manner. The suit mimics the mouth and it’s movements allowing the wearer to bite and deal 20% additional damage with their teeth.

* Everytime the soul of the bound one increases in density the boost is increased by an additional 20%

Fists of Bronze:

* In respect to the fact that most people don’t use their teeth to battle the crafter decided that the gloves during War mode will also be covered in the bones in the same skin tight manner. Since this isn’t reflective of the animals initial style the increase in damage to fists in unarmed combat is only 2%

* Everytime the soul of the bound one increases in density the boost is increased by an additional 2%

Peace Mode:

* Activated by pressing the center golden button on the suit vest when War mode is active

* The suit is a suit. Only Entice is still in effect.

War Mode:

* Activated by pressing the center golden button on the suit vest when Peace mode is activated

* Extending from the center golden button the suit become covered lightly in the bones of the Furcifer increasing physical dmg resistance by 5% and magical dmg resistance by 10%

* Everytime the soul of the bound one increases in density the boost is increased by an additional 5% physical dmg resistance and 10% magical dmg resistance.

Soulbound:

* Grows with the bound one

* Will repair itself as long as bound one’s soul isn’t in a state of injury

* Bound one can never equip another clothing or armour type

* Bound one will never be able to remove the bond. Even getting rid of the item and abandoning it will not remove the bond. Death is their only escape

“How much did you buy this for?” Jason questioned the witch softly. The witch turned from her bumbling about other poisons, tonics, and potions and saw what he was looking at.

“I bought it for a hundred gold. Soulbound equipment varies in prices wildly. They could be worth ten gold or ten platinum. Depending on a lot of aspects. Mostly it depends on the enchantments and what runes are used. The efficiency in the runic script is what creates the effects. Your Primitive Runic Skin for example has horrendous efficiency. The enchanter who made this focused a lot on the furcifer's natural skills which is why the most bonuses come in charisma and fighting with your teeth.” She walked around it and inspected it with her eyes once more.

“Truth is I never speculated that it would have these bonuses. I saw it was a cheap piece of equipment considering it had six specialized enchantments on it, but I wasn’t allowed to actually see the equipment or enchantments. The fact that it’s soulbound and takes up two item types means that the other five enchantments needed to be amazing. Which in this case they are very… niche. Not many if any people will find use in all of these enchantments. The fighting with your teeth and the charisma are average at best. Fist fighting is the most useful but it’s also the weakest enchantment on it. Peace mode is absolutely useless because it’s just a suit. War mod is a bit more useful, but there are other armour type soulbound that are better.” The elf seemed extremely disappointed in the suit. Considering that all she knew was apparently it had six enchantments and had the word Debonair in the name Jason didn’t really know what she expected.

He looked the witch up and down. Maybe she just wanted some charisma because people tend to dislike her based on her… special looks. Poor girl. After giving the girl some mental pity he turned his thoughts back to the suit. During Peace Mode it will just be a suit. I don’t particularly like suits so there’s that. I’d prefer having sweats on and because this place doesn’t have sweats then this wolf fur does quite well… especially after an actual leatherworker looked at it and not just Baghric.

War mode on the other hand I really like. I use unarmed combat so the Fists of Bronze enchantment is nice. The increased defenses are good as well. It does magic first then physical which is good because I’m mainly focusing on physical defense for my actual body. I could learn how to use my teeth in combat. I’m probably going to get sharper teeth as a therianthrope. Although am I even sure I am one because I still can’t transform? There are probably also skills in the unarmed combat tree that have to do with teeth. I didn’t really check and just searched for fist skills. Entice and Soulbound are the only two I’m unsure of. Entice because I don’t have that much charisma and Soulbound because of the whole Death is their only escape thing. Doesn’t sound fun to me.

“Why does this increase when the owner’s soul density increases? I’ve never heard anyone mention soul density or anything similar. Ever.” The little witch stopped and went back to her notes. Starting to write down more weird runic equations as she spoke.

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

“That’s little kid knowledge in the elven kingdoms. When you earn a new class your soul gets denser. Every time you earn experience your soul gets more energy. Enough energy and your soul will need something to condense it or it’ll explode from your body and you’ll die. That’s why people die when trying to break through. They’re giving their soul constant energy but they don’t have the will to condense it. You’ll be able to feel it when you’re breaking through and then once you feel it simply condense it. Easy… or at least that’s what I’ve been told.” The elf mumbled that last part so Jason had to focus to hear here properly. “Since it is bound, repaired, and powered by your soul then if you increase the density it has access to more and more power. It’s a great feature if you find a piece of equipment you love, but if not then it’s not a great one. I’ll sell you that suit for 150 gold or something equivalent.” Jason looked at his wolf pelt that he was going to sell when the shops opened up tomorrow morning. That will get me around twelve silver. 150 gold is 15000 silver which is about… 120 silver is ten pelts and 12000 is a thousand. So about 1250 wolf pelts and meat similar to what I got tonight. Christ that’s a lot. Ya no I don’t need it.

The soul though… if levels, experience, and classes are aspects of the soul. Then what is the system? I always read it in english so it can adapt to the person I know that much. It needs a certain amount of mana to activate. I also know that. Let’s just ask… maybe she knows? Jason did exactly that. He asked her what the system was and all she responded with was a blank stare and two sentences.

“The system is the system. Why would we question it?” Ah I see… blind faith. Alright I guess that makes sense to me. Not really but alright. I’ll just leave natives to their native thing.

“I’ll get you that food and herbs. What herbs and what food?” The girl went through her notes and pulled out a sheet of paper with a list on it. She thrust her hand out to where Jason was. Jason got the paper and on it was a list of ingredients both in Common and another language that Jason didn’t know how to read. “Alright well I’ll be back tomorrow night with some of this stuff.” The witch obviously wasn’t paying attention after having gotten confirmation that he would come back. Jason took his leave and followed the stars back to the city. He got there right before sunup, gave the guards ten copper, then headed right through to the guild, and up to his room where he flopped down and slept.

When it was about afternoon Jason was already up and moving. He was in the sparring grounds just scouting out a few different people as he dodged the stray projectiles that were being thrown around. He had his eyes on a fighter that was using a giant club. Very barbaric and amazing. The man was wearing leather pants and a lion’s fur coat. Maybe not lion’s fur, but again it definitely looks like lion fur. He was about to go over and talk to the guy when his foot got nailed to the ground.

Literally nailed to the ground. There was an arrow that had shot through the skin of the foot. The arrow had somehow missed the bones in the foot and had also hit a thin spot in the foot which allowed it to penetrate right through it and strike the ground. Jason hissed at the pain, but the pain almost immediately faded. Now there was just the uncomfortable sensation of having an arrow through his foot. He reached down and snapped the arrow in half and lifted his foot off the ground.

The arrow was shot with so much power into the ground that when Jason lifted his foot the arrow stayed stuck. Since the arrow was stuck it allowed Jason to simply lift his foot off the ground and slide the arrow out of his foot. Putting his foot back down he sent a glare to where the shot had come from. Man I really need to get proper shoes, not these thin wolf skin things.

A young man was over there. He had blazing red hair and was holding a recurve bow in his hands. Is that a recurve bow… I think that's a recurve bow. It bends at the ends so that means it’s a recurve right? I don’t know bows for god's sake. I grew up in a city. He looked like the typical ranger. Light green cloak, some light leather armour, and a good sturdy pair of boots. He had a quiver on his back and a knife in a sheath that was connected to a strip of leather running from his left shoulder to right hip.

The archer was pale as he saw Jason with all his wolf skin clothing, carved skin, and hand gripping the broken arrow. He was already white so at this point he looked like a ghost. Jason honestly felt a bit bad for the guy more than anything. He was only around eighteen or so and seeing a glaring man in their twenties wearing full monster wolf skin clothing would probably be a little uncomfortable at least.

Jason sighed and walked over to where the archer was. Jason once more had to weave his way through the sparring grounds but very quickly arrived at the area the red haired archer stood.

“H-hey. M-my na-name is uh… Caleb… um… sir. I’m s-sorry sir. I-I was pract-practicing sky shot and I-I’m so sorry.” Jason started considering the lad. He seemed to have a nervous tick and stammered a lot but other than that a good kid. I’m starting to think like Baghric. I just said lad in my head… dear god. It seems like he has an active skill too. I’ve never gotten one. Mainly because Baghric kept telling me that passives are better as ‘those who learn instead of letting a skill guide them are more skilled’. I kind of want to see an active skill in action though.

“Come hunt with me. It’ll get you more practice than this sparring ground.” Jason didn’t even wait for the man to answer and just grabbed him and started walking through the sparring grounds. Dodging the chaotic nonsense was now becoming second nature to him. After a little bit Jason and Caleb reached the guild hall and then going through that they eventually reached the gates.

When they reached the forest an entire hour later Jason finally let go of Caleb and turned to find him staring at the woods shaking. “What’re you scared of? It’s just filled with wolves and the occasional bird? None of them are even above level 24.” Caleb just gave a whine and clutched his bow with white knuckles.

“S-sir. I-I-I-I’m only l-l-l-level fif-fi-f-fif-fifteen.” Jason had no mercy to the stammering kid

“That’s higher than my starting place. Perfect.” Jason turned and walked into the forest stopping only to run back and grab Caleb when he noticed he was trying to run. Bastard shot me in the foot. I will be seeing that active skill in action damnit. He’ll be fine. I was fine and I was at a lower level. Maybe he’ll grow some backbone from this. Jason, not realizing he was turning more gruff as he lived in this world in the manner he did, drug his poor victim into the woods after him.
