Chapter 12: Initial Training (Torture)

Chapter 12: Initial Training (Torture)

Experience Gained:

Lodenstone of Chance: 277

Well of Fortune: 55

Aura of Misfortune: 65

“Hey Baghric. How does Lodenstone of Chance gain experience and what about Aura of Misfortune?” Jason asked as soon as he woke up and saw the notification. Jason had slept outside the tent because Baghric had forced him to. The positive in that was that he could see that the sun hadn’t even risen yet. It was just starting to get light out.

“Ye keep surprisin me laddie. I thought ye’d sleep like te dead, but I find ye up and at em at first light. Well get up then and lets get ta training.” Baghric appeared from the tent looking as immaculate as ever. Ignoring Baghric, Jason just asked the same question again, maybe this time getting an answer.

“Aye aye laddie. Well usually passive auras are based off the strength of the effect, level difference, and ta time affected. Of course higher ranked skills find it more difficult ta progress. At least in passive aura’s case. As fer Lodenstone… I don’t know.” Baghric shrugged and motioned Jason to get up.

“You don’t KNOW?!” Jason incredulously asked Baghric.

“What? Ye think I’m a fountain of knowledge. No laddie I know ta basics. Let me tell ye yer Lodenstone isn’t basic. Ask me about animal physiology and we can ‘ave a talk. For now get up.” Jason stood up and looked at Baghric. Baghric nodded his head and motioned him inside the tent.

“I’m gon go get ye a few hearts and ye need to run around te inside of this tent. Remember the faster the better.” Baghric had just started to leave when Jason grabbed his arm to stop him.

“You just want me to run.” Jason was flabbergasted. He was supposed to be training how to fight for god’s sake not running in circles. Baghric looked at him like he was an idiot.

“Ye want to gain experience right boyo?”

“Yes.”

“Well ye can’t gain experience by simply using up mana, health, and stamina anymore can ye?”

“I noticed that.” Jason gritted his teeth. He hadn’t realized how much that stamina usage helped him until he lost it. His leveling speed was going to be horrendous from now on.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

“Then we need ta get ye a skill that levels as ye train fighting don’t we.” Baghric explaining this to Jason as if he was a baby wasn’t helping Jason’s frustration any. Though Jason knew that any arguing or frustration would just make things ten times worse. So he swallowed his anger and sighed, releasing Baghric’s arm.

“Yes. Yes. Sorry Baghric. Alright I’ll start sprinting back and forth.” Baghric didn’t even nod or look back he just continued out of the tent leaving Jason to start his mind numbing task.

He didn’t sprint as he said because that would drain his stamina too fast. So he instead did a light jog. It would drain his stamina minimally and still count as running. This way instead of just sprinting and using ninety stamina in ten minutes and not being able to restore any reasonable amount before Baghric gets back I can jog with a simple drain of five stamina an hour including my regen. I use ten stamina an hour and I get five back. So over the course of a day which is about fifteen hours at minimum I’ll use 150 stamina. Much better than the ninety I would’ve used if I was just sprinting.

Jason continued like these until his stamina was down to seventy. It was at that point when Baghric came back. With him was a sack. It was a small sack made of wolf skin. Not so big as the one that attacked Jason yesterday but still a decent size. Much bigger than the wolves on earth.

“How’s yer running been?” Baghric was grinning as he dropped the sack in the middle of the room. Jason slowed to a stop and walked over to Baghric.

“I had to pace myself so that I could use up stamina more efficiently, but it’s been good.” Baghric laughed at that. Obviously in a much much better mood than in the morning. I need to not be so difficult sometimes. Most things have gone my way, but that’s not going to last. I need friends and Baghric is the closest I have right now.

“Well lad I want ye to waste all that stamina and then ‘ave one of yer precious gifts.” Baghric nudged the skinsack with his foot. “I’ll be outside in case ya need any more hearts. There are only seven in there but they should get ye through a few days.” Baghric trudged outside whistling a tune.

Jason on the other hand sighed, but then perked up when he looked at the hearts. His body needed them.. He had to fight to resist the temptation to just rip open the sack and devour them all. Eventually though Jason figured out the best solution. I’m going to sprint as fast as I can so I can eat them.

Thus Jason sprinted. Right when he almost ran completely out of stamina he reached into the bag and pulled out a heart a third of the size of his head. This heart was just like the other. Emanating a reddish hue and somehow felt alive even though it wasn’t beating anymore.

Jason devoured it just as hungrily as he did the first and watched as his stamina noticeably increased. The regeneration rate was a whopping twenty stamina per hour. Four times higher than it used to be. I don’t know how long this buff is so I’m running now. Jason ran just fast enough that he would gain five stamina an hour. He was using fifteen but gaining twenty. He couldn’t really see this but after seeing that his stamina was ticking up by one every twelve or so minutes he was reasonably sure that was the case.

Jason managed to get his stamina from where it started, five, to sixty before the buff ran out and he started losing stamina instead. Yet if Jason had done the math right since he started running it had already been seventeen hours.

So does Baghric just want me to go until I collapse or does he want me to stop at some point and rest. I’ll go ask him--

“Get yer arse back in there and run til ye can’t anymore. I’m gon sit ‘ere and once I ‘aven’t heard yer feet in a few min I’ll go in and check on ya.” Baghric threw a wolf femur at Jason as he tried to walk out and ask him if he wanted him to continue.

“Fuck that hurt. Ok well that answers that question. I’ll just eat and try to keep the regeneration and usage at equal levels.” Jason ate the second of seven hearts and started running. This time he tried to make it so he would always stay at sixty stamina. So he’d use and get twenty stamina per hour.

Jason ran nonstop like this for three more days.
