The rat would do for now. I duplicated it and then absorbed the extra into my sixth slot. With two rats in my mind, I thought of many things I could do like giving one rat four eyes to four limbs or even two heads.
I decided to give one rat four limbs. I focused on the new one and tried to replicate it's front legs. I wanted two more identical limbs to appear right below them. In an instant, two identical limbs appeared below them but they caused the original limbs to move out of place, meaning they were now loosely attached to the rat's shoulders.
I decided to undo my actions and the rat returned to its original state. This time, I decided to replicate the limbs along with the shoulders and I also made sure that they were all connected to the entire upper body of the rat and that they weren't blocking the flow of anything like its air duct.
It felt unreal doing this. The modifications happened as if they were simulated by a computer like how you would copy and paste something but at the same time, my modifications had consequences because the rat's body was now very uneven.
I made sure that the additional limbs were connected with the spine and rib cage. I had also made sure that the nerves were in the right place, all of the limbs would get the appropriate amount of blood and oxygen to function but if I don't do something that would actually allow the body to support these additional limbs.
The rat's body would be very weak and it would die soon after a while. If it was alive that is, all of a sudden. I heard footsteps, it must be Jake, I'll have to continue my experiments later.
He opened the door and started to walk down the staircase," I'm ready to leave now",
"Good, come and see this", I back stepped and gestured towards the bombs on the table.
"Are these ..bombs?", he was wary
"Yes, I made them so we could fight the zombies.", he nodded.
"Where's your luggage", I asked him.
"In the living room",
"Go and get it, I'll finish packing my stuff too", he went outside the basement and I had packed my backpack with the bombs.
All of the weapons that I had were semi-automatic, my handgun was a Glock 17. It would suffice for about a handful of zombies but too many and I would be overrun. The assault rifle I had was the Ar-15, it would certainly be helpful, it was already loaded and ready with a full mag on the side of my backpack.
I had it inside but I need to have it readily available, the zombies will certainly not wait for me to pull it out. The shotgun was a Berretta A300, it had a colour scheme of grey and black.
This gun will do more than just help me, when the enemy has the advantage of a numbers game, a weapon that can shoot in a large radius at once will definitely be an ace up my hand.
I had it on the left side of my bag. It was about time, I left this house. It was nice and I even managed to meet someone and help him at the same time. I slung the backpack on my shoulder and walked out the basement.
Jack was watching me from the couch, a large school green backpack on the table. "Have you said your goodbyes yet ?", "yeah",
"Let's go then", I went to the window to see outside and then opened the door.
Aiden got out with Jack following closely behind. Jack took a final look at his home and then walked straight ahead. The street was a large one with various vehicles crashed at random places, some had their doors still open, some had stains of blood and gore on them and some were upside down.
There were no zombies nearby but there were silhouettes of some far away.
"People!", "Crouch down! Those aren't people", I hushed Jake and crouched down behind the nearest car with him.

"But they seem normal", "but they aren't. For some reason, zombies just stand still like that. C'mon just follow behind me and try not to talk too loudly.",
I began heading north-west, towards the camp with Jake in tow. I still had to check it out, it was the afternoon right now. So we better cover as much ground as we can, all while avoiding the zombies. We took cars as cover, and sometimes had to go through or climb over buildings.
The state of the city resembles that aftermath of a war, with buildings being abandoned and left in a ruined state to the roads being stained in blood and corpses. At every corner, there were zombies standing aimlessly or fighting amongst each other or trying to eat anything that came in front of them.
The buildings and homes weren't safe to enter either. They were also riddled with zombies, some of them on balconies, jumping on top of anything that met their gaze.
And when the zombies are over 500 pounds, the weight would certainly be enough to kill you right there and then. Even without it getting it's jaws on you.
We had managed to cross about an entire street, we were pretty close to the base, just a little bit ahead of it. I decided to make another commercial home are resting place for the night because it was getting late and I'm not gonna move around recklessly anymore or at least try not to.
It was a pretty large house, three stories tall and had a bit of a cubic shape to it. From the outside it had red and white scheme to it. We went inside carefully and managed to find no zombie except for the zombies in the alleyway near the house.
Which still wasn't that much of a problem, I had managed to throw a rock to lure them away from us and bailed before the possible carnage would start. I got back inside the home, the interior was pretty nice as well and with no shortage of all kinds of furniture. Whoever lived here must've been rich.
"Jack ..I took care of the zombies",
"Are you alright?", he asked worriedly
"Yes, don't worry I didn't get bit by one of 'em either. There's a base of normal people well somewhat normal but still I'm gonna go and check it out okay alone.",
"Why alone? Can I not come with?",
"No, not this time. They have people standing guard and they would have a harder time spotting one man than two."-i started walking away after leaving the bag on the couch, "I'll be back safely, don't worry. Just try to get used to the house okay?",
I decided to go to the tire shop which was a bit behind the east-facing house.
There weren't people there but there were zombies just a little distance away. A large number of them, there was a barricade near the shop to block of the northern road. I decided to climb the shop from the opposite side of the barricade so I could watch undetected.
I got on top of the shop and got a bit closer to see the base. I was crouched down and a fair distance away from where the roof ended.
There were many people there, with tents laid out, there seemed to be a corner where there was a large gathering of people. Thankfully, the weather isn't as warm as it used to be. In fact, it's cold now and I see some fog appearing as well on the base itself.
It's evening now, I can see the sun's setting rays from here. The base so far hasn't impressed me as much as I had expected. It has guards stationed on the barricades but they don't do much or don't have to because of the zombies not being 'zombie' enough.
The people themselves are not in good shape, they mostly consisted of meth-heads and whatever you wanna call drug addicts. From here, I could see two men with guns, guards I'll assume, harassing a man with very unruly hair near the eastern side of the church away from main entrance.
They were isolated from most of the people, either that or the people were hiding from them.
They were pushing him around, and one of them started laughing all of a sudden while, the other had pushed him down on his blanket that he was sleeping on. In that moment, someone else, a middle aged man came to both of them, he got Infront of the man that was being harassed and was seemingly trying to plead with the guards to leave the man alone.
They walked away after they talked a little bit with the man. Their base has been a disappointment so far, I've seen my fair share of punks and I'm not gonna go willingly put myself remotely near them, if I have the option not to.
There is a far bigger problem than the base, which are the zombies that seem to grow in numbers slowly outside the northern barricade. I need to get a couple of zombies for my experiments too so I have to figure out a way to either separate them from the group or go elsewhere.
Both options are very risky, the bombs I developed earlier would help take out some of them but they number above thirty. So I'm not too sure if the bombs will be sufficient but I do have to try.
I decided to go back to the house and got off of the roof discreetly. The journey back was safe and had zero distractions. I gotta be ready when night falls.
