Chapter 56

Chapter 56

Median parried what he could, and dodged what he couldn’t as he closed the distance in-between him and Ban.

“Get back!”, screamed Dave, but Median ignored him.

“You never knew...”, he smiled and attacked. Knives and swords flew towards him, but he dodged them easily. “Is this what being you felt like?”, he smiled again. “Maybe this is why you were always so cocky!”, he laughed.

Ban tried to make distance in-between them, but she failed as Median plunged forwards, putting both his knives at her neck. Slashing it from opposite directions.

“I have never felt better!”, he smiled as he tried to rub off the blood on the daggers. Only to find it had no blood on them. “What?”

Knives and swords flew towards him again as he saw Ban still smiling and her wounds healing.

“What?”, he questioned again before being tackled by Dave, who could barely move.

“I told you to get back!”, screamed Dave. “She’s not who you think she is...”, he looked behind towards Ban. “Not anymore...”, he added.

Dave sighed, “Are you alright?”, as he got away from Median.

“Yes.”, Median replied as he touched his head, “I’m sorry...”, he grunted in pain.

Dave nodded and turned towards the royal guards, most of whom were scared, “Retreat!”, he screamed at the top of his lungs. “Your priority is to be safe!”, he screamed again and gestured to the guards to run away.

“I may have a plan...”, whispered Eric right at Dave’s ears which startled him.

“You scared...”, Dave controlled himself, “Did you not hear me? Your safety is...”

“The plan...”, Eric interrupted Dave.

“You sound confident...”, Dave looked at Eric’s eyes. They were filled with confidence, confidence that he hadn’t seen before. He sighed and asked, “What plan?”, before smiling.

“What we’re going to need is a giant thing to fall over her...”

“So that she can’t move?”, asked Orph.

Eric nodded.

“A giant thing like what?”, asked Cess as she pondered for a moment. She clicked her fingers as she got an idea, “I saw a boulder when I was looking around.”

“A boulder could work!”, said Eric.

“But how are we going to transport that?”, asked Dave, as all their eyes wandered towards Ogre.

“Ogre?”

“I’ll lead him!”, said Cess as she patted Ogre and asked him to follow her. Ogre looked towards Median who nodded in approval.

“Ogre!”, said Ogre as he followed Cess.

“I know!”, Median picked up the knives. “I’ll be safe.”, he took his stance before looking towards Dave. “I’ll distract her...”, as he plunged forward.

“We’ll help!”, said Dave as he ordered the others to help Median.

Ban was smiling but she did not move. Before Median could get near her, she finally spoke.

“After so many years...”, Ban clenched her fists.

“You’re talking again...”, Median smirked. He took his stance again before adding, “You sound different...”

Ban looked at Median with indifference before smirking, “Do I now?”, she came near Median with her fists still clenched and punched Median’s face with as much force as she could. Median was forced backwards but he braced himself before kicking Ban forcing her to fly backwards.

“You... You’re different!”, Ban laughed. “Different and strong!”, she added.

Median wiped the blood off his mouth before smiling, “You’re just complimenting yourself.”

Before Ban could reply, she got hit a rock straight at her head. She looked towards the direction it came from, only to be hit by another rock. She looked at Eric, “This isn’t doing anything, but I love the feeling of it!”, Eric jolted back.

“I hope you enjoy the feeling of this as well!”, said Orph as he touched Ban’s head from the back. Burning her.

Ban smiled as she turned towards Orph while still burning, “I do!”, she looked around, “I do! I like having the ability to feel!”, she healed herself, “The ability to finally feel!”

“What is wrong with you?”, asked Median as he tried to plunge his knives at her.

"Not this time.”, Ban smirked as she dodged and threw Median off. “While I do love feeling... I’d rather it not be of pain.”, she smiled.

She looked at her own body, “Let’s see what this body can do...”, before growing silent for a minute, confusing everyone standing beside her.

“Stand back!”, commanded Dave, as Orph complied while taking Median with him.

“This body isn’t ready yet...”, sighed Ban, disappointed.

Median got back up and walked towards Ban, “The pain you inflicted on me and the others...”

Ban sighed, and gestured Median to stop with her hands, “Stop... the person who that is meant for is long gone...”

“What do you mean?”, shouted Median.

“You’re standing right in front of me!”, he exclaimed.

Ban looked at her hands, “I feel... less crazy when I have a body... interesting.”

“Are you ignoring me?”, Median gritted his teeth. “Let’s see you ignore this!”, he looked over at Dave and closed his eyes. “I hope you’re stronger than her!”, he screamed as he punched Ban. “Yes! You are!”, he opened his eyes and smiled while Ban was sent flying away.

Ban laughed as she lay on the ground, she saw the bright starry sky. The smoke had finally settled, “I haven’t had this feeling of defeat for a long time...”, she smiled as she got up and looked at Median.

“Your powers... ever wondered what would happen if you were to lose your eyes?”, she smiled again, creeping Median away. Suddenly an arrow hit Ban right in her eyes, just a few moments later. It was Cess, with Ogre carrying a huge boulder with him. Ogre kept the boulder near Dave and screamed, “Ogre!”

“That boulder is almost double my size...”, exclaimed Dave. “You’re strong to carry that...”, he added as he patted Ogre’s back, complimenting him.

“Now what?”, asked Cess, while looking towards Eric. “Now we’re going to need...”, Eric looked around and found a rope, “A rope!”

Orph nodded as Eric tied the rope around in a way that would be able to catch Ban.

“Your plan will not work...”, said Ban as she got attacked by Median, “Did you forget about me?”, he kept attacking Ban, not giving her a single moment to plan. Eric spun around the rope and threw it straight at Ban.

Ban grunted and threw Median away in a moment of desperation. Median was surprised as he saw a cliff near, “I did not see this.”, he exclaimed as Ogre jumped at him and hugged him to brace for the impact of the fall. Before Ban could do anything else, Eric took his chance and threw the rope at her, tying her completely.

“What!”, she screamed in confusion.

“She’s strong!”, Eric grunted, trying his best to keep Ban in one place. Both Orph and Cess used their strengths to help Eric out by holding the rope with him.

With Ban in one place, unable to move but still struggling to do so, Dave finally saw his chance. He picked up the big boulder, almost twice his size. He grunted but he kept going forward, no matter how hard it was, and finally threw it straight at Ban. Before sighing a sigh of relief to be able to do that in the first place, since his injuries made it very tough for him to move much.

“What! No-”, said Ban as she was crushed under the boulder.

Moments passed, with no movement to be seen, the party sighed in relief at their victory.

Eric fell on the ground, tired, and the others soon followed him.

“There goes my new body...”, said the voice sadly. “Curse you all!”, it screamed, soon followed by, “Not like you all can hear me...”, it sighed and vanished.

Eric heard it, he was surprised at where the voice came from. He couldn’t see anything, but he was sure he heard it.

“Are you alright?”, asked Orph. Eric looked at him for a while shocked before gathering himself and nodding, “Yes... Yes, I’m alright.”
