Chapter 5 Page 9 - Expedition

Approaching Sir Era, Akilah could feel everybody staring at her; especially Navin who was looking at her with thrill. That crazy man’s plan had worked out, Akilah was shocked but thankful. Once she stood in front of sir Era, he did not look at her but instead faced captain Navin.

“Who is this soldier” Era asked.

“He, he's my wife's nephew” Navin replied.

“And does this nephew have a name?” Era asked.

“Ah yes, Akilah Vengraif” Navin replied.

“Another Vengraif” Era said with a questioning tone “But I’ve met Lady Snow’s nephews and he’s not one of them”

“Well” captain Navin said “He's a nephew from her estranged uncle. He's a particular fellow that uncle, not very fond of cities and towns, he lives a recluse life after his wife passed away”

“And this is that man’s son?” Era asked.

Akilah knew that there was something more behind that question, something more accusatory. it was as if he was asking why a man that has lost his wife and moved away to live with his family would now send away his son to join the army.

“Yes well, he's the youngest of the three brothers, the oldest one is currently managing the estate, the middle one is abroad studying, and this one... Well he wanted to forge a path of his own.”

Interesting Era said rubbing his index and middle finger against his chin. This was the first time that he had actually looked and acknowledged Akilah’s existence is since she had approached him.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

“So what do you have to say about this” Era asked Akilah.

“About what Sir?” Akilah answered.

Era scuffed “Is my question vague or unclear soldier” he said with an air of arrogance.

‘That's right’ Akilah remembered something that her sister in her previous life I told her about the upper class people that she had met ‘These rich men and women, these nobles, they speak in indirect and roundabout ways. never really saying what they want, they just assume that you'll get the meaning behind it, and if you don't then they'll just assume said you like education’. Akilah had an inkling that this was a sort of test to make her say something that might; even in the smallest of ways; disprove what captain Naveen was saying.

“No of course not, my apologies Sir” uttering those words went against every fiber of Akilah’s being. Calling this despicable human being by the title Sir and apologizing to him made her want to ripper teeth out, nevertheless she bit her tongue and obliged.

“It is as Navin told you sir. After watching my brothers go out and make their own paths in life, I decided to do the same.” Akilah said.

“Interesting” Era replied “And where did you learn those tricks from” he asked.

“I can't really say Sir, I've always had a knack for swordsmanship”

Sir Eric huffed “so is this what they call a natural talent” he said sarcastically. He moved his gaze at Navin “and so you decided to take him under your wing”

“Yes, I do lieutenant colonel”

“And you can attest to his abilities captain?” Era asked inquisitively.

“Yes colonel, as you saw yourself, he has a lot of potential” Navin answered.

“Well then, if you can attested for his abilities, let him join us on out expedition to Leer Graves, we’ll see how he handles it”

Navin sighed “Very well lieutenant”.

Akilah look on captain Navins face for a split second before he regained his composure and answered, she could see the dismay on his face. She didn't know what the expectation for earlier graves was but she could tell that it wasn't good news.
