Chapter 3 Page 5 - Bluebird

"...and that's when I woke up here" Akilah finished telling Adara about the events that had happened. She had of course not gone into graphic details about the deal she made, and what she had to in order to make her wish come true, as to not burden Adara with the details.

Adara had listened to everything Akilah had told her, and now they both sat in silence, neither of them quite knowing what to say. Akilah was nervous, which is a feeling she hadn't felt in a long while, exposing Adara to the truth had become more nerve wracking then she had imagined.

There was just this feeling of uneasiness within Akilah, she wasn't completely sure if telling Adara everything was the right move. In all honesty Akilah hadn't even thought of this part, in her mind she had skipped over this part and went straight to the 'living a quiet and peaceful life with Adara' bit.

However Akilah knew that eventually she would have had to tell Adara something in order to convince her to move far away from the kingdom. She would have liked more time to prepare exactly what to say; but since she had stupidly ran into the kitchen without even looking at her own appearance; she had to just suck it up and deal with it. 'There's no point in crying over spilled milk' Akilah thought.

Adara was always kind and naive therefore Akilah had thought that she would have believed her at once. But that wasn't what was happening. Akilah was becoming gradually more and more anxious since Adara sat there, without saying anything. 'What is she thinking' 'did I convince her' 'does she need more proof' kept going around on repeat in Akilah's mind.

Finally Adara spoke up “Aki I... I don't know what to say...If this is just an elaborate joke then-”

“It's not” Akilah stated firmly.

Adara looked at Akilah with doubt in her eyes “I want to believe you but this is just to absurd Aki”

Akilah nodded her head “I figured. If words don't convince you then maybe this can”

Akilah got up and held her hands in front of her.

“Remember that bird that you had when you were younger, the one that suddenly disappeared?” Adara said and looked down at Adara for an answer.

“Y-yes, the little bluebird. But what does-” Adara was interrupted again.

“Yes, your mother got it for you as a birthday present, didn’t she?” Akilah said not allowing Adara to finish her sentence. Akilah looked at Adara with and apologetic smile.

“Well he didn't just disappear. I accidentally let him out of his cage one time, and he flew away. I’ve felt guilty about it ever since, but…I plan to make up for that now” Akilah said and looked down at her hands now cupped, with her right hand on top of the left one, forming a ball shape.

“Sialia currucoides” Akilah uttered those words and removed her right hand, a little bluebird had magically appeared in Akilah's hand.

“Do you believe me now?” Akilah asked and looked at Adara.

Adara gasped and put her hand on her mouth “Y..You..a..”

Akilah stretched her hand forward towards Adara “Wanna hold him?”

Adara looked up at Akilah then back down at the bird, and without saying anything she picked the bird up and held it in her hands.

“Okay...” Adara said quietly.

"Huh?" Akilah asked.

“I said okay” Adara said and looked up at Akilah “I believe you.”
