- Hotaka Hirota (博隆 保貴): Hotaka is a fifteen-year-old middle-school student from Japan, summoned out of an assembly at his school. He wears glasses and is kind of a dork, but there are hints that he could be someone cool later on. He has a crush on Makoto, and his Unique Skill is Summon Vegetable.

- Noboru Taniguchi ((瀧口 昇): Noboru is Hotaka's best friend, a fat and unpopular boy who has a goofy personality and a sharp wit. His Unique Skill is Destroy Paper.

- Makoto Yoshihara (義原 信): a tough girl who goes to the same school as the other Summoned kids, she plays soccer and has trouble fitting in due to her tomboyish personality. She has a crush on Hotaka. Her Unique Skill is Control Smoke.

- Haruko Ikehara (池原 春子): a shy, bullied girl who tries to be kind to others despite her circumstances. Uniquely among the F-Rankers, she has the potential to cast spells and become a mage, but her F-Rank status makes her an outcast and she struggles to keep up with the others. Her Unique Skill is Flower Magic.

- Tok Rockbrand: Tok is a dwarf merchant who travels between towns in the countryside, transporting goods on her own. Tok is a girl dwarf, but Topher can't tell the difference and is ignorant of this well through the end of Volume 5.

- Varissian Leafwind: Varissian is an F-Rank elf who lives in poverty in an inn, making a living using his magic to heat bathwater for the other guests of the inn. He is secretly the son of the elven archmage, but his low rank has driven him out of his family's favor. His Class is Scullion, and his Unique Skill is Swan Sorcery.

- Hana Shirakane (白兼 花): an F-Rank survivor from a previous summoning ten years ago, Hana was once a Japanese teen-aged schoolgirl like the others, but is now in her mid-twenties. Despite her weak Class and unimpressive Unique Skill, she is attempting to become an adventurer despite ten years of failure. Also secretly a traitor in service to the Demon King, Hana is a deeply tragic character whose insecurities and self-loathing war strongly with her fierce independence and desire to be a better person. Her Class is Hostess, and her Unique Skill is Accelerated Gardening.

- Zanasha Jones: Zanasha is a half-orc Fighter who befriended Hana ten years ago, and has traveled with her as an adventuring companion ever since. She and Topher have a lengthy will-they-won't-they friendship which spans most of the rest of the series, eventually culminating in their romance at the beginning of Volume 6. She is a sweet, kind person with tremendous self-confidence and a fierce battle instinct, who struggles to reconcile her orcish upbringing with her kind and loving heart. Her Class is Fighter, and her Unique Skill is Eat Anything.

- Kelfir Leafwind: Kelfir is the Archmage of the Golden Tower and the father of Varissian. An intelligent and skilled wizard, he is slowly breaking under the tensions of the war against the Demon Lord and the death of his youngest son. He is incredibly powerful, but struggles with a haughty disposition and grief. His Unique Skill is Empyrean Arts, which transforms his magic to look like stars of light.

- Quint Aumraham: the Archmage of the Gray Tower who summoned Topher, Quint is the most powerful mage in the world but feels inadequate due to his lower stats in Intelligence and Wisdom than the other Archmages. His grandparents were Otherworlders, and he loves peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches and chocolate milk. His Class is Master Sorcerer and his Unique Skill is Superior Mana, allowing him to have billions of MP more than other spellcasters.

- Rudo Muchenje: Rudo is another Otherworlder summoned ten years ago, along with Hana, who has been living in the wilderness and Leveling up while accumulating Skills and Magic Items. He is exceptionally wise and subtle, but has a playful streak which makes him seem untrustworthy to others on several occasions. His Class is Innkeeper, and his Unique Skill is Perfect Slumber, which has many uses including sleeping/waking instantly and converting short-term memory to long-term highly efficiently, allowing him to master many skills very rapidly. He is gay, and eventually becomes the consort of the king who summoned Topher. He joins Topher's party near the end of Volume 4.

- Vius Mak Ghiroth: Vius is the Spymaster of the Demon Kingdom, who has been behind many of the assassination attempts on Topher and the others. He eventually flees the Demon Kingdom after its collapse, hunted by the Demon Queen for his failures. Like other demons, his real appearance is that of a normal human, but he can take demonic forms for disguise, intimidation, or combat power. He is very high-Level and has many powerful Skills and spellcasting abilities, but he is cowardly and prefers to direct efforts from safety.

- Sahlerra Siukh: The Archmage of the Black Tower, Sahlerra has the highest Intelligence of all the humans and is responsible for much of the war effort's scouting and spying efforts. In addition to infiltrating the Demons' forces and pretending to be a spy for them, she also plays a key role in the major battle which culminates the war. She prefers to manipulate men through sex appeal, and her Unique Skill is Control Shadows.

- Suzume Saiki (再起 寿須愛): One of the S-Rank "Chosen Heroes" from the most recent summoning, she betrays the Otherworlders and the free kingdoms to join the Demon King as his queen. Her Intelligence is much higher than anyone else's, and she is frequently bored by the weak opposition she encounters. Her Class is Arch Heretic (kind of like a necromancer) and her Unique Skill is Air Command.

- Yariel Arce: the mastermind behind all the treachery and betrayals in the story, he was a blind F-Rank Otherworlder summoned a hundred years ago from Puerto Rico. After using his Unique Skill to master all knowledge and magic, he took control and has been controlling the Demons in an attempt to keep the world from falling into the dysfunction and chaos he witnessed in the modern world. His Class is Infinite King (basically God) and his Unique Skill is Understand Literature.

- Kholoth Rael Kheshnagon: The Demon Lord who abdicated his throne when the True Demon Lord took power, Kholoth is very young and easygoing. Tremendously powerful, he falls in love with Suzume when she attempts to assassinate him and makes her his queen. He is the best at everything in every way, but is still defeated (along with Suzume) by Sugimoto Sora (see below).

- Sora Sugimoto (杉本 空): One of the S-Rank "Chosen Heroes" from the most recent Summoning, he is the most powerful of the Otherworlders and can defeat anyone with a sword. He has been stuck in a dungeon for most of the story and has been through a lot of trauma. Things don't end well for him. His Class is Heaven Knight, and his Unique Skill is God Sword.
