Chapter 24 - Aegis Retrieval Squad

Chapter 24 - Aegis Retrieval Squad

A rain of glowing crossbow bolts shot inbetween the three immortals fleeing in the sky and their pursuers, creating a gap that only grew larger overtime.

Zieg watched all of this unfold by sending mana into his eyes. They were too far apart now. He and the Weiss Clan still standing at the mountain chain would never be able to catch up to Gyro at this point. He was still stunned into inaction after seeing the scarred demon at the front. Zieg had already set his mind on pursuing them, this was the first time he had seen Gyro in more than a decade after they had parted ways in his past life. Shaking his head free of thoughts, he went to gather the others.

“URAAAAAAGH!” Jugo shouted in frustration. He seethed in complete anger. They had only just gotten their hands on the legendary artifact Aegis today. Aegis would have led their clan to greater heights in the future. They were so, so close, only to have the artifact taken away from them the same day they’ve gotten it. To Jugo, it was like he had come across a gold ingot on the roadside and picked it up, only to find out that it was actually dog turd that was painted yellow when he tried to cash in on it at the last moment.

Jugo’s shout of anger made the clansmen gathered around him tremble in fear.

“We must take Aegis back at all costs! The future of our clan depends on it! Seria, you take several elders and a great elder to form an Aegis retrieval squad and go after Sphinx!” Jugo hastily issued commands. The more time they spent standing around, the less successful their chances would be at retrieving Aegis.

If not for the heavy injuries he sustained, Jugo would have disregarded everything else and go on alone to chase after them himself.

“Yes, father!” Seria aptly replied while going off and selecting a few of the surrounding clansmen. She knew the importance of the legendary artifact to their clan.

Zieg watched all of this happen while inwardly disagreeing with their plan of action. A valuable treasure was only a treasure if you had the capability to hold on to it. The Weiss Clan had Aegis stolen from them within one day of possessing it. They were clearly in over their heads. Holding on to a legendary artifact with their strength would be no different than holding on to a ticking time bomb that attracted the attention of various other powers.

Zieg hurriedly gathered their group together and announced, “I’m going after them.” He felt like Gyro had become an entirely different person and wanted to meet with him no matter the cost.

The three were initially surprised, but seriously nodded their heads in agreement in the end.

“Aegis belonged to me in the first place, I’ll come along to take back what’s mine,” Cain added.

Just as the group of four had come to an agreement, Seria finished forming the Weiss Clan’s Aegis retrieval team. The team was composed of Seria herself, three other elders, and a great elder.

Coincidentally, the two groups began floating in the air at roughly the same time.

Watching Zieg’s group from across the sky, Seria harshly said while sending a look of disgust towards Cain, “I don’t care whether you come or not, but don’t get in my way!”

Cain merely scoffed at his sister, saying, “Don’t look to me to save you when the clan gets annihilated.”

The two groups shot across the sky in pursuit of Sphinx.

(Gyro…) Zieg pensively pondered.
