Chapter 10 - Dying Loyalty

Chapter 10 - Dying Loyalty

A stone gargoyle was flying over the skies of the North. The gargoyle was hovering in the sky and watching a temple. It had just seen a demonic immortal holding a bloodred sword exit the temple. The demon had dark grey skin with red lines, like veins, running all over his body.

He tilted his head and saw a gargoyle flying in the sky. His red eyes met the gargoyle’s. Without moving, the bloodred sword in his hand started floating in the air, and shot towards the gargoyle. The sword penetrated the gargoyle, shattering it. The gargoyle crumbled into pieces of gravel.

His Worldbreaking skill “Astral Invasion” was brought to a halt, and his vision was cut off.

“Well, shit. This isn’t good,” an elderly man said while spinning around in a rolling chair within the confines of his office.

He abruptly planted one of his feet firmly onto the ground to stop the spinning.

Chase had seen a small demon army heading towards Central about two weeks ago that he had called Julius to take care of, and now another problem had shown itself. Even though he couldn’t care less about what happens to the Grandiel continent, his school was located in Central within the frontier, which meant that it’d be one of the first places that the demons would invade.

A new candidate for Demon King had appeared. It’s not like there weren’t any Demon King candidates since Zieg’s death five years ago, but there were many influential and powerful demons that still possessed a ridiculous amount of loyalty towards Zieg. Thanks to the efforts and influence of those demons, no candidate had been able to become the new Demon King all this time. That was where the problem lied. Those demons were dying, rather, they were slowly being hunted and killed off one-by-one.

This new Demon King candidate was so ruthless that he had been targeting and killing all of Zieg’s loyalists. Chase wouldn’t normally be worried, but this immortal demon was very pro-war and anti-human. It would only be a matter of time before there’d be a full-scale invasion happening on the Grandiel continent if the demon was allowed to continue killing the loyalists and managed to rally the support of others.

This bothered Chase to no end. “But my schooooooooooool,” he whined. He didn’t have many hobbies after living for hundreds of years. One of them being seeing the annoyed reactions of people, and another being his new magic school. He sighed.

“Maybe I should call in another favor from Julius,” he pondered, “No, no. He should be on another continent right now, and I can’t be in his debt. This time he’ll probably ask for all of my lollipops,” he quickly rejected and shuddered at the thought.

“I really don’t want to deal with this!” he pounded his desk. He really didn’t enjoy fighting.

Chase prepared to flip a coin. “Okay. Heads I’ll deal with it, tails I’ll relocate on another continent,” the coin was tossed.

The coin revolved in the air, and… It landed on heads.

“...” Chase made a face filled with utter disbelief and regret.

“Argh—asdfdasfadsgfdghf,” he made the strangest of noises while banging his head against his desk, when he suddenly remembered something and paused for a moment.

(Wait a damn minute…) Chase thought, (Doesn’t my school have two new immortals now?)

“Huhuhu… AHUKHUKHUK!” he laughed madly, (That’s right… If they take care of the problem, then by association, that means I’ll have dealt with it!)

Once again, he used Astral Invasion. His vision was replaced with one of his gargoyles.

He saw a bandaged figure wearing a badge with the number “5,” lying on one of the beds of his infirmaries. He swapped visions with another of his gargoyles.

In Galvane’s cafeteria, he saw an elf wearing a badge with the number “7,” on it, and standing next to her, he saw a white-haired boy wearing a badge with the number “1,” on his chest.

Chase stopped using his ability and made a grin that didn’t reach his eyes.

(Send number 5 and number 1 to my office as soon as possible) he sent through a signal to all of his gargoyles.
