Chapter 23.5 - Gyro

He desired to protect. Eight years ago, in his attempt to put a stop to the Holy Crusade, Gyro fought a one-on-one battle with the immortal Volheilm. They battled ceaselessly for three days and three nights, and the result…

He was defeated. He fled and barely managed to escape with his life, losing a limb in the process: his left arm.

In his defeat, he wandered around aimlessly in search of greater power. During his travels, Gyro managed to stumble across a legendary artifact on the immortal continent Tiandiyu. It resonated greatly with him, as if he and the artifact were destined for one another. The legendary artifact was a metallic arm, Gawain. The legendary artifact was titled, ‘The Guardian.’

Legends spoke of a peerless knight named Gawain that once existed on their planet. In order to protect his comrades, the knight Gawain single-handedly fought against an army of enemies. He fended them off and defeated them against all odds, however, he lost his left arm and died in the process. He died proudly, standing.

A passing goddess who witnessed these events admired Gawain’s values and desire to protect greatly. It was said that the goddess was so moved that she exerted her efforts in creating an artifact in his honor. The metallic arm, Gawain, and sent it down to their planet.

The power Gyro sought for was easily obtained with the legendary artifact Gawain in his possession. Immortals could no longer contend with him. A single legendary artifact made such a difference? It was so easy? If he fought Volheilm again, this time he would easily be able to defeat him.

Gyro slowly became a different person. He changed, forgetting his original goals and what he wanted power for in the first place: to protect. He became a Jaeger and established the Jaeger group Sphinx. All he desired was artifacts to further increase his power. From that moment onward, he was no longer a kindly vagabond. He was now spoken of in fear as the Artifact Hunter Gyro.

A fallen guardian.
