Chapter036

While I was trying to swim to the surface the hailstorm of messages continued, the speed which they appeared were too fast for me to read, but the last two were the confirmation of the worst scenario's beginning.

After I saw the windows contents I felt suddenly heavy like lead and unable to move, and after the thirty seconds passed I lost consciousness. But unlike all the time I passed out during training or when I was wounded years ago, more than the inpenetrable darkness I expected, I felt more like being blinded by a bright light.

When I was finally able to refocus my vision, after blinking an stroking my eyelids, I found the hud's four spheres were again in the corner of my view. Also I was, apparently, again on the lighted roof of the structure were I landed at first. The obelisk were nowhere in sight, but hole that hid the stairway down opened after a couple of seconds the light shut down.

The "sun" was at his zenit, so I supposed that, minding the time when I leaved Llanfil and Ausas home, no more than few hours could have passed between my death and resurrection. Sure, maybe days could have passed, but I felt strangely convinced about the contrary.

I started descending the stairs while sighing, a quick check of my stats and skill confirmed nothing I learned and gained during the last years was transferred to this body. I still had my memories and understood what was needed to regain what was lost, but even considering this an occasion to exploit it was still an almost complete reset.

- Better think it could be worse, sigh...

When I started walking the narrow passage, that traversed the structure, I remembered what happened there the first time and I still had hard feeling about it. That poor old man died and I was stabbed without even a piece of explanation.

If before the outside seemed like a overgrow forest when I saw it that second time the surrounding were drastically changed. While the clearing in front of the exit, where the mercenaries decided to drown me discussed, was unchanged the rest of the space was filled with man made structures. The trees and underbrush were replaced by trenches, wooden palisades and huts.

It all resembled vaguely a roman encampment and, just like my memory suggested, it seemed as efficient as it was supposed to be. In fact I barely took a step outside, while the wall closed behind me, that an high pitched sound stunned me and I found myself enveloped in trowing net. Better than being pierced by crossbow bolt but it still knocked me back against the building.

The nets where weighted so I was again unable to move from my prone position. Wriggling and brute strength were uneffective and I knew that actually the more I moved the worse the situation became. So I tried to found a comfortable position and waited.

- I'm really starting to think that this world hates me much more that the one I was on before...
