Chapter029

- Sniff... Sniff... Sniff... Mmmmmm... Pancakes... ... Pancakes??? What the @#%&?!

I sat up on the couch, where I was sleeping just a moment before, and started frantically to look around trying to understand where I was. The room were I found myself was like a normal living-room, the couch was in front of a coffee table and a giant screen on the wall. In a corner some stairs hinted of a upper floor, a window on my left opened on a green meadow, and on my right a door opened on what I supposed was the kitchen.

- Ha! I win, I told you smell was far more primeval than sound!

- Ok, ok, it's my loss, but if you didn't put the pancakes under his nose... and how he's supposed to ear the frying from there... it's cheating...

- What was that?

- Nothing darling, nothing. I've lost, next century on me.

- Good. Now let's greet our guest before... See you scared him.

What greeted me after I regained my bearings, I remembered clearly the last messages about dying in that dark abyss, were the gorgeous smell of breakfast and the banter of two people. The way the talked seemed like an old couple, and, when they exited from the kitchen's door, their gestures toward each other where pretty self explanatory of their relationship.

I think I stared with wide eyes a tad too much, hence the comment about being scared, but I think almost everyone would have had the same reaction. Both were young, maybe 25 years, and with the physique and face worthy of a fashion magazine's cover. Each were carrying a tray loaded with origin of the smell that woke me up.

The young woman had the complexion, and was dressed, like Bollywood star.

- An extremely beautiful one... @#$% did I just said that out loud?

The woman made a dazzling smile, while the man, who seemed of nord european descent, put down the tray and gripped my shoulder. His hand was like a vice and, even if he was smiling, the grip's strenght was a clear message for backing off.

- Don't let him intimidate you, he's only a little jealous... if you only knew all the trouble he caused me... Well let's eat before they get cold!

I was almost sweapt into the flow, everything was so natural and I found I was really hungry, but I tried to focus.

- Do you mind telling me who are you and were am I? You know, before we share a meal like old friends...

The young man's head snapped and he seemed to want to kill me with his stare, he would have been more menacing if he wasn't eating his share of pancakes like a child.

- I suppose you're right, 'Sas let's go you can eat later.

One moment I was seated on a couch of a normal looking house, the next we were into a meeting room seated around a table, with a spectacular skyscraper-like window view. The transition was so fast that It leaved me staring blankly at the room.

- See? Your jokes confounded him, we could have stayed there while eating...

- This room give an air much more suitable for business talks, don't you also think so Average?

I twitched at the mention of my "name", and answered the woman's question with one of my own.

- What do you mean by business?
