Another roar erupted, causing another bout of 60 mph winds to nearly knock her off balance; this time, it sounded much closer to her. The roar caused a chill to run up Trish's spine and her to shake like a leaf in a hurricane.
She looked around for somewhere to hide and saw nothing but trees, most without leaves. Spotting a peculiar tree on her left in her peripheral. The Bark on the tree looked like it was made out of obsidian and was a massive 30ft wide. The tree had a 4ft tall and 2ft wide opening in the tree.
She was hobbling towards the opening as fast as she could. Crouching down, she fell to her knees. It was a tight fit, and her broken arm scraped against the side of the opening. She caused another bout of agony in her arm.
She was trying to Stifle a stream of tears that started to flow again due to pain. Entirely concealed, she felt the ground shaking rhythmically, almost as if it was stepped. Inside the little hole, Bright red symbols could be seen lighting up all around her, almost blinding her.
'What do these symbols mean?' Reaching out her unbroken hand, she touches the closest symbol, which looks like all the Jacks in a deck of cards stacked on each other as if it were from a winning hand in a game of poker.
All the symbols faded, with only the one she touched staying lit. The area started to heat up, and her palm felt like she had grabbed a hot skillet. The pain was overpowering; it made breaking her arm feel like a pinprick. A scream escaped her lips.
"Www… why must I go thr... ough this" her voice breaking in agony. Tears were free-flowing once again. Her palm felt as if it was dumped in magma. Turning her hand over to look at her palm, she saw the symbol that was on the wall engraved on her palm with a light red glow.
A monotonous tone started to speak in her head. 'Congratulations, you have found and chosen the sign Jack of Trades. You will now be able to learn all Skills from any class at a highly accelerated rate as long as it's under the S tier. There are four ways to unlock a skill; however, you are only qualified to know just one. Repetition.'
'Okay, that's it. This speaking in my head shit is too damn strange to ignore anymore. Are you a person, a program, or a monster? What are you? I'm in a massive amount of pain. I want to find my friend, and all you have been doing is either dropping exposition or insulting me, and I don't even know if you have a name.' She thought about the thing in her head.
'I can't tell you what I am, but you can call me Mell, and I will talk to you about how I want. I may be forced to help you, but I don't have to like it. You should pay attention to your surroundings' clicking sounded off in her head.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
'Did Mell hang up on me? I didn't even know that was possible. How does that even make sense?' with no answers forthcoming, she decided to focus on her surroundings.
As the seconds passed, the shaking got more substantial, and the footsteps got closer. The cracking and falling of giant trees can be heard from just a few hundred feet away. A monstrous foot came into view as the trees just before she fell.
It Caused the tree closest to her hiding spot to topple and smash into it like a vast domino hitting another. The tree shook so hard it caused her to be knocked around in her hole. The pain she was already feeling was amplified to another Level.
A small blue window popped up saying. The skill Pain management rank F lvl 1 has been unlocked, and your pain will now be reduced by 10%. Now feeling marginally better, it seemed to allow her to breathe easier.
Just a few seconds of shaking caused a large crack above her head, and what she heard was so loud it drowned out the steps of the creature that passed by the tree. Sounding like a thousand trees all snapping at once. The tree she was in snapped, and the makeshift roof sheltering her was upheaved.
She somehow made it out of the situation alive. Her eyes widened in shock as she stared up and noticed three things. First, now that the trees around her had been toppled over, she could see 6 Stars in the sky. One tiny blue star was the brightest, and the rest were yellow and ranged from about the size of the sun back on earth to almost ten times its size of it.
The second was the sky color was Green, and there were massive flying beasts in the sky, some scaled, others feathered.
The third was the creature that walked past her. She could only see up to its knees which were even towering over the trees left from its walk of destruction. Focusing on the creature, she could make out some minor features. The creature had a body covered in black fur, and its feet looked like giant wolf paws.
Her voice was almost as quiet as a mouse's "inspect that thing."
'Not possible!' 'target divinity is too strong would be suicidal to attempt." There was an almost unperceivable amount of fear in the word spoken. '
'What does divinity being too strong mean? Are you trying to say that's a god? I don't doubt it was strong, but you're telling me that bigfoot furry over there is a god?' disbelief nearly overwhelming her jaw practically hit the floor.
Its stride was so significant that it was out of sight in mere seconds. 'What not going to dignify my questions with a response this time?' Nothing but mental silence greeted her; she was given the silent treatment.
After several minutes of not getting a response, she gathered what little she had and set out again toward the pull she was feeling.
A few hours passed, and having gone through miles of Forest, the pull started to feel stronger. The direction also moved slightly to her right, causing her to adjust every few minutes to stay on course.
The pull started to get increasingly more vigorous like a galloping horse was now pulling her along. She had seen almost nothing but trees that looked like they belonged in a jungle back on earth.
Finally, hearing something besides insects and small birds chirping. A creek or maybe even a river was close because the sound of rushing water and fish jumping out of the water could be heard.
She felt the first sliver of hope since she jumped through the portal hours ago.
Hobbling as fast as she could, the pull became even more potent. The trees were finally thinning out, and the land was becoming more marshy. She heard frog sounds as loud as a Diesel engine revving up. Finally, she made it to the creek, and what she saw made her blood run cold, and her heart almost stopped beating. "Momo, oh fuck no!"
