Chapter 2: A Briefing (Part 1)

"Hey, so where exactly are we meeting the boss?" I wondered as we seemed to be taking the scenic backstreets route to meet them.

"We can't draw too much attention or the void army will know that we're here." Said Erikson.

Okay so that explained why we're going to meet this reincarnation of my dear old spiritual wolf dad on foot. But what I didn't know was if we were even anywhere close to where we were supposed to rendezvous with him.

"Don't worry the heaquarters is only a little ways." Said Erikson. "And Mr. Oberstein is generally a nice old man unless you manage to piss him off which is very hard to do. But I'm sure you'll manage somehow." mocked Eriksson.

"So what exactly is happening to our world boss, if you don't mind telling us. We're mighty curious to know why all these things from our worst nightmares are floating through on the streets broad as day and you know I'm not one for small talk but I can't stand the look of some of those creatures." I said

They don't have their full invasion force here yet, but their trying to connect their world to our world as we speak." Said Erikson. "And I don't know about you but if these are just tourists from the so called Void I don't want to know what some of the residents who haven't made it through yet are like."

"How are they doing that?" I was wondering this myself, as usually in most games and rpgs and other such stuff I've played there was usually a catalyst for the invasion.

"There is a dungeon forming in our world and our duty is to get you guys strong enough in our world to be able to defeat the boss and to destroy the dungeon core." Said Erikson matter of factly, I guess he didn't try to joke about these situations.

"You mean we can't take on the dungeon core as we are? I'm feeling plenty powerful after defeating those spiders." I told him, showing him my muscles.

"As nice as those are even for the minions that are slipping through the void they're enough to take on the whole lot of you, so the plan here is to get your prepared by taking a few quests while you're out here on this side of the dungeon." Said Erikson.

"I don't like the sound of that" said Jacques. "So tell me how are we supposed to level up enough to take on the dungeon?"

"After we take you to meet the boss Oberstein, those of us who aren't dead or dying take you to meet your brother he's a very important figure in all of this and you should here what's going on with this world you're all going to from his own lips." Said Erikson.

"Why's that." I said shortly, I idn't want to be invovled in anything that had to deal with my brother even if it meant saving the world. Frankly, I just didn't like the guy. Like at all and for good reason too but we'll get to that a litle bit later. Needless to say he wasn't the best of brothers growing up.

"He's one of the people responsible for making this other world you and your friends will be going to. You know the one we originally inended you to grind levels in and certainly it would serve well to hear it from the lead programmer's mouth."

"So anyways, about this dungeon, we'll conquer it for you. We're adventurers afterall and the best adventurers always go adventuring." Said Jacques.

"Yeah, tell the boss man that we'll have it under control just you wait." I said trying to reassure Eriksson.

"You say that now but the mobs in the dungeon are a lot more fierce than anything you'll face out here that just managed to slip through as the worlds are merging. In there's the actual danger. It was quite polite of it to keep itself contained in there."

"So what, we're the chosen ones we'll be able to stop anything the void has to throw at us even without my asshole brother's help." I say to him confidant in my own power and the power of all of my comrades.

"It's really not that simple, you're simply not high level enough to take on the dungeon as you are. On top of that you're naive and overconfidant which is a bad mix when dealing with any of these so called Void creatures since most of them have the sentience of humans and it's a generally a ad idea to be overconfidant on the battlefield." warned Eriksson, he had this look of genuine worry on his face that we might fuck up all of his well laid plans, and I'm not going to lie to you, we might have.

"Still, that doesn't mean that you couldn't conquer the dungeon with some alterations." Said Eriksson. "Level up enough grinding on the small fry out here and the dungeon won't be so tough for you either. you might be able to conquer the dungeon within aweek and trust you, me, myself, personally, I have high hopes for all of you." Said Eriksson.

"Those minor alterations are exactly, what the system is for." Said Confidence, making herself known to Eriksson.

"Holy shit what the hell is that?" Screamed Eriksson.

Confidence laughed, I guess this just goes to show that even military men like Eriksson could be scared if caught off guard, not that Confidence was particuarly frightening looking, but I gues the surprise of seeing a huge wolf right in front of his eyes.

"I suppose that's a friend of yours?" he asked genuinely hoping that it wouldn't eat him. "It's not unusual for Fenrir's children to be around wolves now that I think about it but... give me a warning next time."

"I've been here since the beginning I'm only choosing to show myself to you now that I've determined that you aren't a threat." Said Confidence.

"And how'd you determine that?" I asked her.

"By his smell, I don't know how to explain it he just doesn't smell like a bad guy," she said calmly explaining a wolf's sense of smell to the me back then that wouldn't have understood it. "You can just kinda smell if someone means ill to you and this guy, what's his name... Eriksson... he simply doesn't."

Confidence strode up to give Eriksson a few licks, back then it was often hard for me to remember that confidence and ferocity were dogs, or rather wolves, because they acted so human. Eriksson learned down to give confidence a few pets on the head.

"Anyways, that's exactly what the system is for, giving level ups, power ups and new classes to the chosen ones." Said confidence.

"The system sure is a handy tool, me and the boys could use it if we had something like it in order to defend this world against the void." said Eriksson, it was almost as if he couldn't believe the convenience that was afforded to us by the system.

"It's making us a hell of a lot stronger." Said Monroe. "We'll be able to defeat that dungeon for you no prolem.

"Yeah,if we're this tough at level 1 imagine how tough we'll be come level 10" Said Jacques.

"Yeah, I'm sure if everyone else thinks we can do it than there's a 90% chance that we'll make it out of it alright." Said Alex.

"So I've got to wonder why is this system only availale for use by you all, boys in the military and naval forces sure could put that to good use." Said Eriksson.

Confidence pointed to us with her snout.

"There's a few reasons why the system is only in their hands. Firstly, they're the chosen ones meaning that they were destined and foretold to be able to beat back the void." Confidence smirked at each of us in turn.

"Secondly, their the only ones who can handle the system without going certifiably insane." Confidence continued.

"Thirdly, even if that wasn't all true who's to say that we won't bring the system to your world if all plans follow through so that you'll be better able to battle the void creaturesand void demons." finally Answered Confidence.

That seemed to have been what Eriksson was looking for because even uner all that soldier gear he was wearing that obscured his face we were sure we could see a smile which was followed by a very visible fist pump.

"So what level is that dungeon that you're so scared of anyways..." Iasked Eriksson. "I mean it must be a pretty high level if you're so worried about it."

"Well, that dungeon is a level 10 and as I reckon all of you are only level 1." Said Eriksson. "Therefore, I'm sure that it's a dungeon you can't well take on by yourselves."

"Then we'll just have to level up to Level 10, take on the dungeon and restore order to the world" I said

"Sounds good to me," Said Monroe."I can't wait to try out what these new paladin powers of mine can do."

"Yeah, sounds fun, count me in" Said Jacques "I've been waiting to smash something in with my hammer and shield."

"For your sake and our's I hope you can conquer the dungeon and save the world" said Eriksson
