Stepping over the shredded bodies of the dead was becoming a theme for Gwyn. Blood dripped and pooled in the dim lighting, glinting like puddles after the rain. The stench of death and carnage filled her senses and the dying gurgles lingered in her ears.
Never in a million years did she think that this would be her life but in just over a week she’d seen such a staggering loss of life, she suspected that this was only the start.
Would this be her life from now on?
And why was she so good at it?
She glanced over at the black clad members of Tatiana’s crew, they were checking for survivors of their brutal assault and the occasional gunshot heralded their progress.
Gwyn didn’t feel sympathy for the wounded, they’d have killed her just as easily and besides none of these goons would know anything so they weren’t even worth the time or medical supplies to save.
Her boots left bloody prints behind her despite doing her best to avoid the growing mess, it wasn’t easy and eventually she just stopped caring, simply marching through the gore slowly so as to not slip and get covered in blood again. The fact she had to clarify “again” was depressing.
Over her escapades she had used her Alluring Flashbang combo, she had taken to privately calling it that, three times to devastating effect. Such a simple addition to an already effective tool made those potentially gruel fights into a breeze.
She couldn’t deny now that this system was truly amazing, no wonder they wanted it back. She shuddered to think what their plans were for it, she did have some ideas based upon where it crashed, none good.
Gwyn eventually picked her way over to Tatiana who was investigating the way forwards, she received a smoldering look of relief from the girl that made her heart and more intimate places all tingly.
She coughed away a blush as she was worriedly checked over for injuries, other than a few bruises and scrapes Gwyn was unharmed once again.
Turning her attention back towards their path she saw a large solid steel door that loomed in front of them, it had been secured into the concrete wall of the station.
In all likelihood this was the entrance to an old underground bunker. As it lacked any sort of locks or panels to open it, Gwyn guessed it was probably opened remotely from the inside.
The stairwells on either side of the platform had been filled in with dense rock and hardened concrete, sealing them from whatever was above.
The tracking software Tatiana’s people had did tell them that they had traveled north but that they were still in the city’s outskirts. According to the map there wasn’t anything on the surface that would give them any clues as to the identity of whoever hired these goons.
Gwyn stood forwards to inspect the door herself but she hadn’t a clue as to how to get in, to her it was just a smooth steel wall.
Just as she was about to ask about how they’d get through, an amused Marion guided her out of the way of the burly bodyguards carrying explosives. Now that they had access to the door they started to feed lines of high-explosive wire around the door where it met the concrete.
Rather than try to brute force their way through the steel, they'd first try to pop it out of the frame.
“You did some good work there, how about we nip into the shadows for a quickie?”
Gwyn turned to Marion who had begun seductively whispering into her ear, a brief tender bite on it emphasized her half-joking suggestion.
Now that Gwyn had a better feel for all of her friends’ insecurities she could see that Marion didn’t really mean it, she was just playing the part she thought she should.
“Maybe later if you play your cards right” Gwyn fluttered her eyebrows at the spy, who short circuited as the conversation took a turn she wasn’t prepared for.
Gwyn watched half-concerned and half-assumed as Marion took a rather long time to reconfigure her thoughts. The blonde had expected to simply fluster Gwyn again, not that she hadn’t as the implied image had invaded the green haired girl's mind and set her cheeks blushing, but she wasn’t expecting to be flustered in return. Right now Gwyn didn’t know how to go about extracting the girl from the masks she wore but this might be a good start.
After a small Kiss on the cheek she sauntered away from the flustered girl, making sure to give a little bit of Alluring Sight to her swaying hips. This was the first time she had really leaned into her class properly and she found it rather fun to tease her friends or perhaps they were closer than that, killers with benefits?
In a short amount of time the burly bodyguards had rigged the democharges and ushered them all to take cover in the trackways.
Gwyn ducked down beside her friends, taking cover from the impending explosion.
Through her hearing protection she heard a muffled boom and felt it too as a shockwave washed overhead, it still felt like she had been kicked in the chest despite the solid cover redirecting the energy.
Peeking over the platform as the dust settled she got a glimpse of the heavy steel door, it had fallen inwards now that it had become unmoored from the walls. The boom of it meeting the floor was sure to alert anyone left inside if the explosion hadn’t already.
“Go.”
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
At Tatiana’s crisp order they flowed speedily into the corridor, weapons held at the ready.
The confined corridors sloped downwards rather steeply, forcing them to slow their progress so as to not slide. After a few bullets skimmed their feet as they descended the auto-turret wielding woman deployed her toy, rolling the system down the slope. It unfolded itself at the bottom and the bodyguard took glee in directing its fire from the safety of cover.
Pressing forwards after that they attempted to keep a rapid pace but they started taking casualties in the narrow confines, nothing fatal yet. Several members of the leading elements had to be dragged back for medical aid however, leaving slick trails of blood in their wake.
Approaching an open doorway at the end of the corridor Gwyn deployed another Alluring Flashbang, which detonated inside the open chamber just before the group swept in, cutting down the remaining henchmen with ease.
Gwyn took in the open room before her, it was vastly empty with mainly crates stacking the walls that had once contained the numerous weapons the henchmen had used to defend this place. Along one wall were rows of bunk beds made from cheap fabric and a cluttered canteen took up most of the space in the center of the room.
This had been the base of the people that had hunted her and been subsequently hunted in return.
Up on a higher concrete platform near the back was a rather expensive and functional looking tent, currently the heavily armed bodyguards were hauling out a pair of corpo-managers. Gwyn could recognize the well groomed hair and the disdain on their face, they didn’t look that scared to her, like they didn’t think they were in any danger.
She’d have to change that.
Gwyn observed the pair, a man and woman had the same bland haircuts and bland corporate suits. They were frisked thoroughly and a set of burner phones and wallets were deposited before Tatiana, she then ordered her people to put bags over the corpos heads and place noise-canceling earmuffs on them too.
Shifting over to Tatiana, Gwyn took in the wallets, each contained a plastic ID and some money. Terrence Yellon for the man and Samatha Riley for the woman.
“They’re fake, see how they’re only carrying cash”
Indeed the wallet was empty of anything resembling business cards or any other forms of identification that a corpo-lacky would eventually accumulate.
“Are your guys going to interrogate them?”
Tatiana sent an uncertain look at Gwyn “yes, it’ll take a while but they’ll talk eventually”
Gwyn eyed the bagged corpos, she suspected those methods would be terribly violent and bloody but wouldn’t get them what they wanted any time soon.
Her own Charming Request might be a more effective method if played right.
“I could give it a go.”
“With your skill,” Tatiana hummed as she thought about it, “sure it’s worth a shot.”
Tatiana clicked her fingers at the bodyguards holding the prisoners and pointed to a pair of steel chairs by the canteen. Within seconds they had dragged a pair over and cuffed the corpos to the chairs.
Gwyn turned to Marion who was loitering nearby, oddly shy right now after Gwyn’s unexpected flirting.
“Do you think you can play bad cop?”
“Uhh, sure?” Marion coughed to regain herself, “I mean sure thing.”
Gwyn wasn’t really that versed in extracting information but she had seen a number of crime dramas enough to know how to do some things. Namely that people want to talk, they just need to think it was their idea, that or use fear.
Gwyn nodded to the bodyguards behind the bagged pair, the two corpos blinked rapidly as they went from darkness to light. They still had the same scowls upon them as if this was just an unnecessary delay to their day.
“Don’t you know who we are, release us at once!”
Gwyn labeled him as the idiot, the other woman was silent so she was either smarter than him or just subservient.
“In fact we don’t, why don’t you tell us?” Gwyn infused her voice with her coercive skill.
The idiot frowned as he realized that he couldn’t tell her as they were obviously not meant to be here, it wasn’t for naught however as she felt her skill working. They just needed a little push.
Heaving a dramatic sigh she removed her slim pistol from her thigh holster and slowly started screwing on a suppressor to the end. At her seemingly amateurish display the idiot let out an ill advised scoff.
“What is this? Kiddy hour? We took classes to resist interrogation, you dumb bitch”
Gwyn finished screwing on the suppressor and heaved another large sigh before shooting him in the knee, the shot blew it to pieces, scattering blood and bone all over the floor.
“Language.”
His pained screams echoed around the chamber making the corpo woman’s eyes widened in terror as she came to the startling realization that Gwyn didn’t give a shit about their status as corpos.
“Damn, wasn’t I supposed to be the bad cop?” Marion chuckled from the side.
Gwyn responded by handing her a sharp knife “yes you are, if she doesn’t answer, take off a finger, dealer’s choice.”
Gwyn returned her gaze to the fearful woman and the screaming idiot.
“Gag him.” Gwyn ordered the bodyguard standing stoically behind the still moaning idiot, swiftly stuffed his mouth with a dirty rag.
“I’ll only ask nicely once, who are you and who are you working for?”
This time the skill caught fast and the smarter corpo began to speak.
“My name’s Samatha,” as Gwyn turned to gesture to have Marion take a finger she hastily added, “wait! That’s my real first name, it’s easier to remember than a fake name.”
“Go on.”
“We…” Gwyn just had to look in Marion’s direction to have her hurriedly continue, “we work for the Tawaga corporation!”
“Don’t say another word!” the idiot yelled at his smarter companion, “if you say anything else I will report you to upper management when we get out of here!”
Gwyn just sighed, he made it so easy. Not only did he just tell her that upper management was involved but he just let her know that he had no way to report out right now.
Gwyn pointed her pistol at his head, the bodyguard wisely moving out of the way, before addressing the terrified woman “does he have access to any information that you don’t?”
At the shake of her head Gwyn pulled the trigger, splattering his brain all over the floor behind. With her foot she casually tipped him over before turning back to the shaking woman, Gwyn idly noticed that she had pissed herself.
Gwyn wrinkled her nose.
“I guess it’s your lucky day then, hey can someone get her some new pants?”
