The Amazing Ada

Fritz idly ran his hands over his chainmail vest. Underneath his armor, his guts wormed relentlessly as his heart pounded. Ada had begrudgingly accepted wearing the mail armor, while Brenn donned a simple leather chest armor. Marcelle and Neva wore no armor. His party was prepared for battle. Leaning upon the wall, Fritz's shotgun sat begging to be used. Neva's scarred face had been permanently warped into a scowl as she stood with arms crossed upon the walls. Brenn had lost her usual cheekiness, joining Ada in her serious contemplation of the battlefield.

"I'm gonna do the thing with the big cannon." Ada said excitedly, before running off to the guard house. Fritz merely grunted as he watched the rout with rapt attention.

The sacred band of Hueryss had been slaughtered. The remaining warriors that had managed to break out of the encirclement beat a hasty retreat back towards the city. The vampire knights harried them like wounded animals. Javert was nowhere to be seen in the chaotic retreat. His warriors finally learned fear. Their desire for glory had faded completely, as their panicked cries rose to the skies above begging for survival.

The vampiric blood knights harried them. Their swords sought the vulnerable flesh with speed and precision. Blood soaked their open mouthed helms, as they pounced upon the fallen warriors. The few surviving members of Javert's sacred band approached the scarecrow. Fritz nudged Neva, pointing towards the marker.

"Hit the scarecrow with a bolt of fire, once the last warrior passes safely."

"Why?"

"Explosion." Fritz replied gruffly. "Big. One. It will stop their advance."

"Good. Less to kill." Neva said as she pointed her left index finger towards the mannequin.

The scarecrow stood out like a sore thumb on the pox marked plane. Quickly soaked in gasoline it had been placed to mark an arsenal of hidden explosives. C4 and napalm had been cached nearby waiting to blow. The fleeing warriors of the sacred band, trickled past. Their harried retreat pushed closer towards the gates. The entrance of Hueryss had been left open, expecting Javert's triumphant return. His warriors ran like defeated children towards the safety of the walls. The guard held wobbling halberds as panic slowly mounted in their chests. No order to close the gates had been given, the guards eyed each other with nervous fear as they wondered what to do.

Neva breathed in deeply, as she let her magic form a needle of fire at her index finger. The flame shot out towards the mannequin. Like an arrow sailing high through the air, it dropped in its trajectory as it flew towards the scarecrow. The last of the surviving warriors had passed the scarecrow. The undead warriors surged forward. Zombies, empowered skeletons, hulking monstrosities of flesh and bone, and ghouls surged closer to the trap.

Fritz watched as the flame spread engulfing the scarecrow.

"I thought it was supposed to blow." Neva growled out. Behind Fritz, Marcelle mumbled out a series of curses.

The flame spread downwards. Soaked gasoline greedily ignited, spreading like a fan towards the explosives. Fritz awaited the chain reaction.

Ada was an expert at getting her way. Waving her enchanted rapier around the guard house to get attention worked like a charm. Claiming that she acted on direct orders from the champion himself had worked amazingly. Now the blonde wolfkin was right where she wanted to be. A metal plate had been stuffed into the cannon, and Ada had clambered in afterwards. She sat balled up, with her head poking out the cannon. Fritz had given her a vial of his blood to use for emergencies. Ada in her own infinite genius had smeared the blood on the rapier.

"Kill them! Give me more blood!" The blade screamed in her mind. It coursed power through her strengthening her body. She was faster, more durable, quicker thinking and far stronger. The lust for battle surged through her as she waited. "Blood! I will feast! More you slut! Drown me in the enemy. Feed me slut!"

"I am not a slut. I am a good girl." Ada whispered to herself.

"Uh.... Are you sure this is safe?" One of the cannon's gunner's asked. All eyes were upon the blonde wolfkin as she sat in the cannon.

"Of course! Now fire me at the enemy! It is time for my grand entrance!" Ada shouted. The guards looked towards Gaspard. The captain had moved towards the windows. His eyes scanned the carnage below him searching for his brother, completely oblivious to the insanity of Ada.

"Captain?" One of the guards asked. Gaspard refused to answer. His lips were moving intently as he kept muttering to himself. His hands gripped the exposed stone window as he leaned out looking for his brother.

"Do it!" Ada shouted.

One of the gunners got into position. Ada tensed her body, anticipating her glorious entrance into the battle. Fritz would praise her for this. She just knew it!

The cannon exploded, rocketing Ada out of the gatehouse towards the enemy. Her sword was held triumphantly aloft as it sought glory.
