Other than realizing he was naked, the first thing Kazumichi noticed was the sensory overload that came with his [Heightened Senses]. He had to cover his ears when the light breeze assaulted his hearing, sounding more like a tornado at first. Kazumichi also had to close his eyes as the bright sunlight threatened to blind him. He even shook his head to try to keep the overwhelming scents of grass, trees, and other aromas from causing him to sneeze. Even the wind on his bare flesh caused the hair on his body to stand on end. It was a lot to process all at once.
Kazumichi wasn’t sure just how long he had stood in the forest clearing while he tried to get used to his new senses, but he figured it must have been at least an hour, possibly more. The one thing that had been growing in his notice was just how hungry he was becoming. He felt his stomach growl loudly, and with his heightened hearing, he thought for a moment that a monster had found him.
A sheepish expression crossed his face at the realization. “I suppose I should try to find something to eat,” he muttered to himself as he placed a hand on his rumbling stomach.
Even though he had never been hunting before, the skill he had acquired came with basic knowledge of how to use it. The first thing he did was find a decent sized stick with a somewhat pointed tip to it. Then he looked at his [Stealth] ability. With the cost to activate it, and then the cost to maintain it, he quickly realized that he only had enough MP to keep the ability active for 10 seconds before his MP would be completely drained. This made him think that it was useless for stalking around, but good for quick ambushes.
So for the time being, Kazumichi had to simply rely on his [Hunting] skill and hope that it would be enough to allow him to find some prey, and then use his [Stealth] ability to get in close and kill whatever he might happen to find.
It took him about 20 minutes before he spotted some tracks. What he thought were originally deer tracks, he discovered that what he had spotted were actually elk tracks. While some tracks might look similar at first glance, Kazumichi found that depending on the size and specific shape of the hooves, he could tell them apart. For one thing, deer tracks were smaller, and the shape of their hind hooves were much closer together, resembling their front hooves. Whereas elk tracks were much larger, and their hind hooves were spread apart more. All of this knowledge came to him thanks to his [Hunting] skill filling in the blanks.
Kazumichi spent another 30 minutes following the tracks while doing his best to stay as quiet as possible. Once he finally spotted the elk, he was surprised at the size of it. He knew they were large, but he had never encountered such a creature in his old life, so he had no frame of reference for just how much bigger an elk was than a human. From his quick estimation, the elk he had found was close to 10 feet tall, which was even larger than his Wolf Gijinka form.
He glanced down at the stick in his hands, now feeling much less confident that he could take the elk out with such a feeble weapon. But then he remembered that this wasn’t Earth anymore, and he had stats. Stats that had been given a significant boost from the start. Not only that, he also had his other form he could use to make things more even as far as size went.
Even though he would need to wait to change forms again once he reverted back to his natural form, Kazumichi decided it was the best course of action. So without wasting another second, he quickly returned to his Wolf Gijinka form, then immediately activated his [Stealth] ability. He knew he only had about 10 seconds before he ran out of MP for the ability, so he ran towards the elk and swiped his claws at its throat.
To his surprise, the elk didn’t so much as glance up at the rustling leaves before he found himself already next to the creature. His sharp claws made quick work of the elk, and it dropped to the ground with a heavy thud. It was over so fast that Kazumichi just stared down at the carcass in disbelief for a few seconds until his MP ran out and his [Stealth] ability ended.
“What was..,” he started to say, as he got a notification in the corner of his vision.

“Seriously?” He questioned, not quite believing that he was still gaining things from that unique skill of his. Was it really fair for him to be getting so much out of it? “Whatever, I’ll take it,” he decided after a few moments of contemplating. After how his previous life ended, why should he care if this world wanted to give him an overpowered ability? He opened his status screen to see the changes.

Pushing that aside for the moment, Kazumichi heard his stomach grumble from hunger again. He then realized that he had another issue he hadn’t prepared for. He had nothing to skin and gut the elk with, nor the knowledge of how to do so. Letting out a frustrated sigh, he brought up his status screen and began to look through potential skills and abilities to see what he could do to help his situation.
Unlike the first time he was picking his skills and abilities, he felt a bit more rushed now. He opened the section for skills, and quickly realized that there were a lot to look through. Kazumichi was about to choose the [Butchery] skill, when a thought occurred to him; he was a wolf. Why did he need to butcher and cook the meat before consuming it?
His eyes stared down at the elk carcass before him, and he suddenly felt his mouth begin to water as the scent of the creature entered his nose. Letting his new body’s instincts take over, he lowered himself down to the elk and began ripping into its flesh. To no surprise, it was still warm since it had been killed only a few minutes ago.
Kazumichi tore a chunk out of the elk and chewed a few times before swallowing it with a satisfied snarl. He then went in again, lapping up some of the blood, then tore out another piece. Kazumichi spent the next 20 minutes or so as he feasted on the elk, leaving only the scraps behind on the bones. Once he had his fill, he patted his full belly, though found the action a bit strange in his current form.
Since he could eat raw meat in his Wolf Gijinka form, he now felt like he had wasted the points he had invested into [Hunting] and [Cooking]. Although, [Hunting] would still help him find food, so perhaps that wasn’t as much of a waste as [Cooking].
When his eyes landed on his [Stealth] skill, he remembered how short the duration for it was, and he wanted it to be able to last a lot longer than 10 seconds. With that in mind, Kazumichi decided to put 10 points into his Charisma stat, since that was his primary casting stat from being a Sorcerer. The moment he did, another system message appeared in his vision.
Unique Ability [Otherworlder] detected. Requirements met. Applying modifiers now.
Each stat point spent will be multiplied by 10 before being applied to the stat total.
“What now?” He asked, then his eyes looked up at his Charisma stat. It had gone from 150 to 250. This also affected his MP, MP Recovery, Magic Attack, and Magic Defense. All but MP recovery were now equal to his Charisma at 250, while his MP Recovery was now 25/second. This was a much more significant change than he was expecting. He then looked at his [Stealth] ability to see the new values for it.
Stealth - Lv25
When activated, your movements become quieter and you blend in more easily with your surroundings, making it harder for others to detect your presence for 25 minutes, or until mana is depleted. Your total Stealth value is equal to your Stealth ability level + 25% Dexterity + 25% Luck (87.5). Others can still detect you if their Perception value is equal to or greater than your Stealth value.
Casting Time, instant. Mana Cost, 25 to activate; 12.5 per second to maintain. Cooldown, 1 hour.
While nothing about his [Stealth] ability had changed, he now had more MP, which meant it would now last for 18 seconds instead of 10. This was an interesting discovery. Keeping the ability low-leveled would allow him to use it for longer, so long as he kept investing points into his casting stat. However, from what he could tell, leveling the skill would improve its effectiveness, though it would have an equal casting cost to its level, while simultaneously having half the casting cost being used to maintain it each second.
Since he wasn’t sure how commonly used [Stealth] and [Perception] abilities were used, he didn’t want to invest too many points into them just yet until he had more information.
Kazumichi decided to take a bit of time to explore some of the other ability options he had. However, when he opened the section, there seemed to be thousands of abilities to choose from. He was then struck with analysis paralysis as he looked at all the options before him. Thinking about what it was he wanted to find, he noticed the selection became a little smaller. This led to him discovering that he could refine the search for abilities to have certain parameters or traits he wanted.
At first, his thoughts narrowed the selection by a little, but after spending nearly an hour just figuring out how it worked, Kazumichi finally had narrowed down the selection to only 25 options. They were all abilities that he thought would be useful in keeping him alive while he continued to figure things out.
A few of the abilities were different forms of analyze or inspect abilities. They had slightly different functions from one another, but they each allowed a person to gain information on the creature or item they were targeting. A few others were the opposite to this, and were abilities that would protect against such things. Since he had inflated stats for being only level 2, Kazumichi figured hiding his true potential would be for the best. The last group of abilities were related to self-healing.
Once Kazumichi had made his selections from the list, he brought up the ability section of his status screen to check the new information.
Ability Points: 825
Passive Abilities
Perception - Lv25
You are able to notice things more easily in a radius around yourself equal to your Perception value, as well as more easily detect others using Stealth within that same range. Your total Perception value is equal to your Perception ability level + 25% Wisdom + 25% Luck + any other bonuses from other sources (137.5). You can detect others using Stealth if your Perception value is equal to or greater than their Stealth value.
False Identity - Lv50
Whenever a source attempts to gain information from your status screen, there is a percentage chance for a false status screen to be displayed instead. The false status success rate is equal to your False Identity ability level + 50% Luck (100%). If a source has a higher inspection ability level than your False Identity ability level, it will lower the false status success rate by the difference in levels. For every 10 levels, you can create a new status screen with different information on it than what your original has.

Casting Time, instant. Mana Cost, 25. Cooldown, 6 seconds.
Analyze - Lv25
When activated, you can target a creature to try and gain information about it. Your success rate is equal to your Analyze ability level + 25% Luck (50%). You gain more information the higher your Analyze ability level is compared to any countering abilities the target might have.
Casting Time, instant. Mana Cost, 50. Cooldown, 50 seconds.
Heal - Lv25
When activated, heals a target for a certain amount of HP. Healing is equal to your Heal ability level + 25% of your base magic attack (87.5).
Casting Time, instant. Mana Cost, 25. Cooldown, 75 seconds.
He was now down to 825 Ability Points remaining, though he felt a lot better about his chance of survival in his new world. However, he did notice that some of his abilities didn’t follow the initial rule he thought of sharing a mana cost with the level of the ability. His [Analyze] ability actually had double the level for both cost and cooldown. While his [Heal] ability still shared the cost with the level, but had a higher cooldown.
These were things he would need to investigate more later. But for now, he decided to get to work on finding shelter before it got dark.
