Vengeful Domination
48 - Oh? You're Approaching Me?

48 - Oh? You're Approaching Me?

Uncontrolled laughs and a strong waft of alcohol.

Those were the first sensory information about the Adventurer Guild that came to Rubra’s mind.

She thoroughly enjoyed the joyous and lively experience of the Grand Plaza.

If there she found the dynamic energy of life, here the impression she got was different.

Moments after, Eric advanced, the two of them at his sides.

Rubra could feel their eyes sizing them up.

For a moment, there was almost silence in the guild.

The loudest sound became their rhythmic steps on the creaky wood planks of the floor.

This habitat was full of energy, as in the Grand Plaza, but what she felt wasn’t joy: it was the thirst for blood, a predator hunting to survive another day.

Laughs, alcohol was just a way for them to cope with the constant danger of death their work exposed them to.

Those hungry eyes tried analyzing their power like hoods and clothes didn’t exist.

That kind of wall couldn't hide anything from a warrior.

What mattered wasn’t the exterior appearance.

It was the width of the step, the control of mana around their body, and their own visual control of their surroundings.

This was the moment the three of them would be tagged as prey or predators.

*Ah, what a nuisance! *

This was the only thought in Eric’s mind.

All those looks didn’t matter to him.

The moment he entered the main hall, analyzed instantly the mana control of the adventurers inside and concluded that there could be maybe one dangerous person there.

His method was the aptest to sense mages, or who generally raised his mana stat instead of his stamina.

Still, even a warrior of high level (over level 300) would usually learn mana manipulation.

After all, raising to no end the stamina stat could become counterproductive, in the sense that raising that stat without any mana control was the same as stowing away TNT in your body without worrying about any incoming sparks.

The message was that the high-level warrior who didn’t manage to control their own body was usually the first to die through mana reflux.

It was like the opposite of survivorship bias: as all the warriors with that kind of build died like ants for this reason, most of the time, those cases were rare.

Surprisingly enough, that dangerous person wasn’t some adventurer, a receptionist, or even the guild master, whose presence could feel not too far inside the building.

It was a barman, his face seemed made of stone, and the white mustache, in stark contrast with his deep black hairs, combed backward.

His expression was unchanging.

The only movement Eric could perceive in his figure, when he, Rubra, and Eve entered was his monocle that fell to the side of his right ear.

*You aren’t that though, uh?! *

Eric was quite happy with the situation.

As he remembered, the range of levels between adventurers was quite wide: from ten to three hundred.

The only exceptions were the S-rank adventurers, like all the heroes, whose levels were above 400.

Even though he was still in the two-hundred range, his combat ability was already S rank.

Basically, that poor stone-faced barman had perceived that the three of them weren’t his usual folks.

The three of them had reached the end of their short walk.

In front of Eric was the receptionist.

A brown-haired, short girl with a soft smile.

She seemed accustomed to the work, and her face incited calm and relaxation.

As a sign of respect, Eric removed his hood and started speaking.

‘’We’d like to register as adventurers. ‘’

Instantly the room became louder once again.

The women(mainly) were talking about his handsome appearance.

Most of the men seeing that felt jealous, and as if synchronized, a loud ‘’Hmph’’ could be heard.

All of this was quite comical to Eric.

He was accustomed to his old, average-looking appearance.

This situation remembered him of when an attractive student transferred to his high school class, focusing all the attention on himself.

*I definitely reincarnated for me to be the attractive transfer student! *

He felt like laughing at himself.

To accept the strictly illogical experience of reincarnating because of something so superficial and stupid like the flattery of some strangers.

In fact, up to this point, Eric was still ready to define all the past month ‘’he felt’’ as a crazy dream his brain was having, moments before finally turning off.

He had seen many movies like that on Earth and didn’t want to die with that bittersweet taste.

That was the taste of wasted possibilities and was the worst taste to him.

For all these days from his new start, if his nightmares consumed his nights, this fear of everything disappearing from one moment to the other filled his logical mind during the day.

He felt the same way after being teleported to Ouroboros for the first time.

His scientific paradigm of thinking didn’t make him consciously accept that new reality.

Now similarly, this situation that he thought couldn’t possibly be made up by his brain.

With so many persons, with so-detailed faces and characteristic points, was starting to convince him about his ‘’possible reincarnation’’.

*Now focus on the present. *

His mind repeated the mantra he always heard during the sudden mental gymnastics which he enacted.

Time resumed flowing for Eric.

The receptionist herself had slightly opened her mouth.

Her smile was not picture perfect anymore as a bit of drool was falling from her lips, as if seeing a tasty meal.

Teasing her, Eric extended his handkerchief to her, indicating the side of her mouth.

‘’Here, for you. ‘’

The girl immediately blushed, and with her, many of the women watching the scene were even more interested in that unknown man.

‘’N-no, thank you… ‘’

The receptionist was trying to return to her professional self, but as if interrupting that sweet atmosphere, two hands were slammed on the counter, at the sides of Eric.

Eve and Rubra didn’t like the current development of the situation so, instinctively, their actions were the same.

Their gestures may be rasher for Rubra and more controlled for Eve, but alike both of them didn’t enjoy the idea of losing to some run-of-the-mill receptionist.

For this reason, while trying to destroy the sensual awkwardness and physically separating Eric from that woman, they removed their respective hoods to attract attention.

The roles were reversed with respect to Eric’s face reveal.

Men were making toast while laughing, and women were jealous.

*These horny dogs need some punishment. *

Eric’s thoughts were way more radical than those of Rubra and Eve.
