Chapter 4 - Puddle of Blood

Chapter 4 - Puddle of Blood

Some time had passed since the argument in the castle between Nork and Aerys. All the guards and jobs only commented on it in the castle halls.

"You heard that shouting yesterday afternoon."

"Yes! The king and the prince had a fight. Someone told me that Nork even hit the king.".

"Prince Nork has been expelled. Someone told me that he's now going to live in Nevaron".

"At the end of the argument Prince Nork slapped the king and fled to Nevaron."

A week passed without anyone seeing Nork in the castle. Worried, King Aerys searched the castle room by room all morning. He looked first in his room, then in his wife's and daughter's, in the guests' rooms, in the servants' and stewards' rooms. And so it went until he had searched the entire castle.

But he found nothing.

"I'll look in the street. Surely he must have hidden in some store or a friend's house."

"Naughty boy!".

— If you intend to look for him in the streets of the city, I don't think you'll find anything either.

Says Thaddeus, who was standing right next to the king while he was thinking.

— My king, rumor has it that he fled with his wife and daughter to Nevaron. To hide there.

— Why? Why did he run away there?

The king asked, very worried. But then he understood what Nork wanted.

"He didn't run off to Nevaron. He's going to do that stupid attack he said!"

Quickly, without even looking at Thaddeus, King Ayres ran to get a cart to go to the guard and security post. He had a damned feeling. If he was right, Nork would have gone to Nevaron to carry out his plan.

Arriving there, he knocked on the door and suddenly entered without any courtesy, going straight to talk to the leader of the guards who was sitting at a table.

— Oh, my king! To whom do I owe the honor?

Suppressed, he rises from his chair and stands up straight.

— Heitor, Nork came here a week or so ago... did he say anything to you?

— oh yes my king! He asked for some men for a peace mission to Nevaron. He said that you had already authorized it, and that it should be done as quickly as possible. No red tape.

— IDIOTS! HE LIED!

At that point Aerys spoke so loudly that his voice echoed throughout the place.

— He lied! That idiot was going to carry out an attack on the Goblins and Orcs in the city of Nevaron. An unnecessary attack just for the sake of honor!

Hector and his men at the table were startled

— We didn't know, my king. He came here a week ago and said he needed a small army for a quick mission. He said that he had already spoken to you and that he didn't want to upset you any further.

— He also asked for extra reinforcements, just in case. So he also took some men from the adventurers' guild.

"What? So it's not just a simple attack that he wants to carry out, he's asked for help from the city's adventurers' guild. He doesn't even get on well with the people there."

— Heitor, it's official now! We're going on a rescue mission. Rescue mission. We're going to Nevaron with a small army to rescue that idiot son of mine. Get your men ready and we'll leave as soon as possible

Two days later, with everything ready, Ayres, along with Heitor and his army, found themselves in front of the city's great gate, Draigpaw. Already ready on their horses and in their carriages, they set off in the direction of Nevaron. To rescue the fugitive prince Nork.

— I'm going too!

A woman's voice exclaims. Everyone in the room turned to see whose voice it was.

It was Queen Gytha.

A perplexed Ayres looked up angrily.

— What you're doing here is only a serious mission. Leave soon!

— No, I won't. I have as much right as you to go and see my son. I'll go with you to my son's rescue. I'm very worried about Sam. That idiot took my granddaughter without saying a word to me!

— I'll come to her rescue and give him a good scolding!

— But darling... It's going to be dangerous, isn't it?

The king tried to change her mind. But it was no use.

— I'm going, Ayres, and they say it's no use!

Snorting, the king went along with the idea. Not willingly.

— Hector, go get a horse and pack a trunk to store the queen's belongings, please. We'll wait here.

— At your service, my king!

And off went Heitor to fetch another horse. A new member had joined the mission.

[Nork's point of view]

Nork and company had arrived in Nevaron by this time. They were in a small rustic inn on the side of a mountain. Nork, his wife and daughter and his senior subordinates were sitting at a table. They were having breakfast and talking about where they were going to attack.

A butler from the inn, who was listening in on the conversation, approached them and started talking.

— You're from the kingdom of Grishwolds, aren't you? You've come here on kingdom business, haven't you?

Nork takes the lead in the conversation. If they talk too much, it could jeopardize the whole plan.

— Yes, we're from the kingdom of Grishwolds. We've come here to deal with kingdom matters. Do you want to say something?

Apprehensive, the butler looked around before saying anything. It seemed that what he was about to say was going to be serious, very serious.

— A few days ago a group of Orcs and Goblins arrived here. They stole all the savings from the inn and set off in a westerly direction. I heard that they've set up a cave west of here next to the River Alfhem.

"River Alfhem? I know that river. I went there once with my father. There really is a big cave there.

Nork thought, as the man continued to say.

— I also heard that the leaders of the Orc and Goblin armies were there. It seems to be a meeting. And a very important one. But that's just hearsay

"Perfect!!! I'll kill two birds with one blow!!! What luck!!!"

— Thank you very much for the information Butler, wouldn't you like a drink?

Nork, elated by the news, invited the man to drink with them.

— Thank you very much, sir, but I can't drink during working hours.

After lunch, everyone got ready and headed for the river Alfhem, where the cave was located.

The commander of the Nork army exclaims.

— Is it really safe there, sir? I don't want to get hurt unnecessarily.

— Don't worry, Peter, everything will be fine.

Excited, Nork sets off in a westerly direction.

— It's not too far, we'll get there quickly.

— We'll make a sneak attack. And in the blink of an eye, everyone there will be killed. They won't even realize what killed them lol.

— FORWARD MEN!!! HUZZUAH!!!

...

..

.

Once there, they quickly found the cave. It was huge. The entrance was gigantic and there was a strong smell of monsters inside. As they entered the cave they saw a huge door almost the same size as the gate to the kingdom of Grishwolds, Draigpaw.

— My king... do you feel that?

The frightened army commander asks Nork.

— Yes Peter... I am, but it's only fear. Let's move forward without fear!

A ghostly presence was felt by everyone. Something really scary was behind that gate.

— Darling... Are you sure? I have a bad feeling about all this.

Nork's wife asked. She was shaking with fear. Her hands were freezing.

— Yes, dear, there's nothing to be afraid of. Just protect Sam so she doesn't get scared.

Nork stepped forward and came face to face with the gate.

— MEN!!! ARE YOU READY!!!?

— YES SIR!!!

Everyone armed themselves at that moment. They took out their guns and swords and got into battle position.

— ATTACK!!!

[King Ayres' point of view]

Back to the present day. King Ayres' army finally arrives in Nevaron. When they get there, they quickly go out and ask everyone on the street if they know about Nork. Until they find something about him.

At the same inn by the same butler as before.

— He told me he was going to the river Alfhem. I told him about a meeting of Orcs and Goblins that was taking place there. He was happy and told me he was just going there to watch.

— That idiot!

Said the king whispering to himself.

— Thank you very much for the information.

Then the king and queens and the whole army went to the same cave to find the fugitive prince.

— When I find that boy, I'll give him a good punishment. He'll never forget it!

The angry queen said to herself as she walked.

When they got there, they came across the huge entrance to the cave.

— Look what this kid has gotten himself into.

Said the king, impressed by the size of the cave.

Going in a little further, they find the big gate.

— By the goddess, what a giant gate this is, it looks like Draigpaw... But what's that smell? Blood?

The queen was startled. As soon as she smelled it, she put her hand to her mouth.

An unbearable smell of blood filled the room.

The king then ran quickly and opened the gate with one blow.

BOOM!!!

The scene that followed was something he never imagined he would see.

A large pool of blood had taken over the area behind the gate.

Nork, Gytha, Sam and the whole army...

were dead...
