Chapter 0: Fickle Minds

Chapter 0: Fickle Minds

A floating cluster of small pink cubes floated around a pitch-black room; the pink cubes gathered together into a vaguely ring-like shape and illuminated the small five-year-old-looking child covered in a white dress sitting at the centre of the room. She had pale white skin with a hint of pink, super long white, pink and purple gradient hair(starting with white and ending with purple), pink right eye, purple left eye and both having white pupils.

She remained perfectly still and held her hands next to each other. The cubes collected together into an eight by eight by eight cube before the single ceiling light flashed to life and illuminated the barren white room, save for the white bed in the corner of the room.

An outline for a door appeared on the wall the girl was facing before it slid open and a man in a white and neon cyan striped jumpsuit was pushed into the room by a heavily armoured/high-tech robot guard.

"Begining test: 3-4w-92/2," the heavily armoured guard stated with a robotic voice before the door closed and disappeared. The prisoner stood to his feet and cautiously looked around until he spotted the girl with the cube made of a cluster of pink cubes.

"Are they serious... it's just a kid? This seems like a rather tame creature for those researchers to possess," the prisoner remarked mentally and slowly walked over to the girl. He stood about twenty centimetres away from the kid before she gazed up at him.

"Hello!" the girl cheerfully shouted and even though the prisoner had a strange foreboding feeling as he heard the girl's voice.

"Prisoner 674321, read the message written on the paper and under no circumstances are you to deviate from it or listen to the Codex's manipulation," a voice said over the earpiece in the prisoner's ear. The prisoner nodded his head and looked at the message: which read, get the Codex to offer you anything, you will then ask for a bar of gold(which will be enough for your bail) and once she agrees she'll ask you to open her cluster box. The prisoner tilted his head and commented to himself that it seemed fairly simple; he even wondered if the scientists were being serious about letting him use the gold bar to pain his bail. A sick smirk appeared on the prisoner's face making Codex quietly giggle to herself.

"I'm sure that offer must be pretty enticing but I can do much more than make a simple bail bribe," Codex remarked, as the prisoner's earpiece buzzed.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

"Prisoner 674321, do not listen, any deal higher than the gold bar will have too high of a price," the earpiece buzzed. The prisoner paused and contemplated both of the offers before gritting his teeth and scratching his head.

"Given you're in the position to be in this facility, I highly doubt a single gold bar is going to be able to pay for your bail," Codex remarked as her pink cube cluster morphed into a sun lounger chair and she layed sideways on it. The prisoner contemplated it as the voice on the earpiece told him to follow the note's instructions or face termination. The prisoner glared as he grabbed the earpiece and tossed it across the room.

"I wish they'd just go and die," the prisoner mindlessly snarked as Codex's cube cluster reformed back into a cube, and Codex couldn't help but grin sinisterly.

"I take it you have a better use of my powers than a single bar of gold?" Codex cheerfully asked as the prisoner had a devious look on his face.

"Yeah, I want enough power to be able to break free from this dump!" the prisoner boastfully exclaimed. Codex couldn't help but snicker as the cluster cube, with a box-like appearance, began to glow.

"You humans are so gullible," Codex cheekily snarked as the prisoner opened the box before he registered what Codex had said; the prisoner tried to say something but blood instantly gush out of every orifice on his head as his eyes glowed pink. The prisoner collapsed to his knees in anguish as his body slowly began to melt to the point his mouth no longer existed. The ceiling light began to flicker before bursting and leaving the room in complete darkness.

Outside the room, a swarm of heavily armoured guards swarmed the entrance to Codex's cell as a scientist watched through the camera.

"Dammit I knew completely isolating the room would be a bad idea," scientist one commented.

"But if we didn't it could have risked subject Codex from tempting a member of staff into making a deal!" scientist two shouted.

The heavily armoured guards readied their arm energy cannons, energy rifles and energy blades as the scientist unlocked the cell door. The door slid open and the heavily armoured guards at the vanguard aimed their guns into the cell before slowly walking in. The guards walked up to a puddle of red and pink blood at the spot the prisoner previously was.

"Zi-Guard 2B-8 report!" scientist one demanded over Zi-Guard 2B-8's speaker. The guard was about to respond when it was impaled in the face/chest area by a purple scale before it exploded as the sound of Codex manically giggling echoed through the scientists' monitors.

"How foolish of you; if I knew it would be this easy to escape I would have done it ages ago," Codex remarked before six large neon pink eyes and a cluster of neon pink scales lit up behind her.
