Volume 2 Chapter 3: Loyalty, Part 17: Oren's Perspective

"Why's the alarm going off!?" Tarran asks.

I wonder this myself.

Pi-po-! Pi-po-! Pi-po-! Pi-po-! Pi-po-! Pi-po-! Pi-po-! Pi-po-!

In that instant, the ground begins to shake. Tarran and I hold onto each other for balance.

"What's happening!?" he asks.

I try to calm down and focus on my surroundings. Something...is approaching. Something...

!!

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

"GET DOWN!!" I yell, pushing Tarran away...

Barely giving us time to dodge a stalagmite of igneous rock.

I hear more rubbling below.

"Tarran, run!"

Tarran immediately runs away at electric tone speed. As for me, I am left behind to backflip and somersault around rising stalagmites. After the sixth one, the rumbling stops...

And is followed by a stampede of footsteps.

I run over to the stairs where Tarran is.

"Let's go!" I yell, preparing to descend.

But Tarran puts his right hand on my chest, stopping me. Curious, I lean over the edge of the stairs and see why.

A stampede of people coming of the stairs. People with bloodlust in their eyes. People armed with almost every type of weapon. I don't recognize most of them, but those I do recognize help me determine who they are.

They are yakuza members. And too many to fight!

"Split up!" Tarran yells.

I agree with his plan and run down the hall behind me, while he takes the one originally on my left.

(Soul Conversion 5...BEAT!)

(I wish this wasn't the case, but I can't fight them!) I think. (I've donated too much blood, and I don't have a sword!)

All I can do is run. After every turn I make, more and more yakuza members flood into the hospital. The sound of breaking glass. Running up stairs. Doors slamming.

(How many of them are there!?)

Eventually, I get cornered between two groups of these people. I believe some yell something about me, but all the sounds going on drown out their voices.

They leave me no choice. I'll just have to plow through them!
