chapter 73c: relaxation
The next morning Scilla woke up as Iris poked her face.
“hi. I’m keeping my promise. So what now?”
“are you leaving already?”
“no. I just… got out of bed. Figured it would require time for you to wake up as well”
“thanks for the consideration”
“you don’t have to thank me but I’ll accept it. Do you have plans for today?”
Scilla rubbed her eyes and stretched.
“not really…”
Iris intrudes stopping her mid-sentence.
“then I may have a quest for you”
“a quest? How much exp do I get?”
“what?”
“nothing, just a gaming joke. Sure, I’m at your disposal”
“while I’m away you have to find a new fairy tale, and then when I return you will read it to me. I suppose you’ll get 100exp upon completion... I think. Is that much?”
“mmh. Long quest but fairly simple. I’ll gladly do so. Now let me pack some food for you so I don’t waste more of your time”
“take your time. I’ll use the bathroom”
Iris walked away leaving Scilla with a strange happiness. This interaction with 608 left a bittersweet feeling behind. It remind Scilla of what she had with 511 but at the same time brought a sly hope of regaining what was lost. A hope whose existence Scilla had yet to acknowledge.
After some morning preparation and with the lunch packed they stopped by the garage door so Scilla could send Iris off to work. Or whatever she was doing.
“so… what do we do now by the door?” asked Iris.
“well not much… just take this…” Scilla gave the packed lunch to Iris.
“and have fun at work or at what you are working on”
“Oh. Thanks. I guess this is nice”
“well with Wiola we would hug but I don’t think it is appropriate now”
“no it’s not. I barely know you. I won’t let you touch me. Bye”
fuck man, that hurts. But it is their culture.
“bye and have a good day”
Left alone and determined to prove her worth, Scilla immediately grabbed the tablet and started her research. What she believed was going to take up several hours ended up being a fairly fast task. She had little to no authorizations so she could only see documents with almost no value. If you add in the new functioning search system the job reduced to a 30 minutes task. After that, she was left wondering what to do in basically 12 hours of nothing. Bored she decided to clean the place that was fairly messy. Iris didn’t seem to care much about cleanness. So to cut the root of the problem Scilla started from Iris’s room. She was fairly sure that as long as she didn’t take away anything that Iris deemed worthy from the room, then she would have been fine. The small bedroom was almost empty yet it felt like a tornado passed through. All drawers were open and so was anything else that could be left open. There were covers and pillows around but none touched the ground. A fort of pillows in the upper part of the bed that was the only one against a wall. Closing the fort entrance Scilla spotted the stuffed animal that she gave Iris. In front of it the fairy tale book that Iris found.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
Yep, those are her possessions. I ain’t touching her bed.
For once Scilla had the right intuition and left alone what could lead to troubles. There was however another small issue. One of the room corners was occupied by a pile of dirty clothes. She would have no issue if they were just clothes to be washed. However, Scilla didn’t even have to try to spot used underwear in it. Once again her brain worked and she decided to stay away from that second pile of troubles.
Yeah, I won’t touch that either. I would probably be allowed if asked, but I don’t think I should touch her used panties.
By noon Scilla had cleaned what she could and after eating she was left with nothing else to do. So she started looking into the structure net, hoping to find something she had access to. The tablet reported a hallucinating amount of devices. So to cut to the chase she filtered for only the mounted drivers and other storages available. Yet such action brought no significant results. The research for Iris’s request was fast as she knew what she was looking for. But now, as she was diving in blindly, she started to grasp the vastness of the knowledge kept on Weeping Sky. There was no comparison even with their lineic libraries. Most entries appeared to be novels and fairly useless books if not for entertainment. Then something with a completely different name and wording caught her attention. It was not a book but a 42 pages long file titled Esterians’ Natural Behavior Analysis. The words and expressions used were similar to a scientific paper but it didn’t appear to be a complete work. The translated introduction intrigued Scilla. The file was supposed to be about the most evident behaviors during interactions between two Esterians.
Sexual dimorphism seems to impact both sexes drastically yet constantly even if in several different degrees of magnitude. While physical dimorphism characteristics from Humanity are mostly kept as they were, psychological dimorphism is just ridiculous, suggesting that the hybridization had a way bigger impact than calculated. Physically males are slightly taller than females, but on average Esterians are shorter and more nimble compared to Humans. Strength wise however, hybridization seems to have lightly improved our bodies. Average results suggest a 3% gap in physical strength and endurance…
...yet physical dimorphism is not the only thing that changed. Male individuals seem to have shifted toward more cooperative behaviors instead of competitiveness. Esterian's males seem to have an improved sense of “brotherhood” if it makes sense. They compete yet they don’t see their opponent as an enemy but as a friend. They challenge each other to improve through competition and not the opposite. As a general rule, males tend to avoid conflict between themselves opting instead for a peaceful approach that excludes violence but not competitiveness. It’s really rare for males to fight another male. The closest they could get to violence is usually a competition for a female, yet excluding the rarity of such an event, it’s rare that violence is necessary. Instead in such occurrences, they compete to prove their worth to the desired partner. Winning the competitions doesn’t seem to ensure becoming a couple with the female partner. The early relationship could still die over time if the individuals result intellectually incompatible. Once coupled a break up becomes an anomaly worth a different study. Violence is almost certain when threats are brought upon the male’s family. The desire to protect your own overcomes any form of rationality and usually leads to rare yet bloody fights or even murders…
...Male violence on females however is fairly common. Due to female's combative nature, it’s not rare that a male panther is forced to use violence to separate two competing females. Which brings to the elephant in the room, female’s combativeness and violence between themselves. While for males it can be said that they lived as a group, females are more like solitary creatures. They can maintain a social life, but in contrast to their male counterparts, theirs is filled with violent competition. Supposedly Morfian's roles were reversed compared to Humans. Females were the ones who had to initiate the courtship, the ones putting up entire shows to parade their qualities to be chosen as the ones to protect. This translated to us Esterians into male figures that defend their family and females who defend their partner against other females…
… in a more blunt view. Males want to be heroes. They want to be the shield of their family and, thanks to their cooperative nature, shields for their communities. They fight enemies, not each other. Females on the other hand are villains in disguise. They feel attached to their society but their loyalty truly resides only within their family and their blood…
… Their natural obsessive behavior toward their male target makes females dangerous creatures. They fight each other for the partner that they desire and such competition easily turns to violence. Once almost literally beaten off the competition the females are usually successful in starting a relationship. The explorative period of time needed for a fresh relationship to transition into a stable couple is to be considered critical. During it, the female will fend off all possible opponents which basically translates into constant anger toward other females and obsessive possessiveness. In not-so-rare occasions, the anger may translate into raw violence especially if another female tries to approach the male partner. Often such events may have unseen repercussions such as death. Female-on-female violence in fact makes up 82,11% of all murders…
...violent behaviors tend to decline once coupled or even better married. However even in such cases, it’s common for females to lash out at other females that they may perceive as threats to their relationships.
“what the fucking fuck have I just read?”
said Scilla aloud. She couldn’t believe what her eyes just read. After all the few things she saw about the ETU made it look like a peaceful place. Idra 511 herself was not particularly aggressive toward others on the Sheridan. Which brought her to think more
is this file about 608’s universe or are Esterians universally this way? 511 was also not so aggressive as depicted here neither she was so proactive in seeking me as a partner… or so I think…
Her relationship with 511 however was exactly as written on the paper. 511 was just smart and avoided acting under the sun, exactly as most Esterians do.
