chapter 36c: define

While they waited for their food to be ready Scilla, Wiola and Nuria chatted while Idra was silent gazing at all the dead creatures in the room. It took some time until the two buloghi were ready to be eaten but eventually they reached the counter. Nuria had split them in half for a faster cooking in indirect heat coming from a wood fire. Nuria was a skilled cook and Idra had to face her first meat cooked on a grill. Except for Scilla’s dished, Idra survived so far with just mush, moss and edible plants that required no cooking. Having a juicy and smoky piece of meat was an occasion that she couldn’t miss.

“so here you go miss Idra” said Nuria bringing 2 massive trays with the cooked animals and vegetables on.

“it’s just Idra” replied as she pushed one of the plates in front of Scilla and the other closer to her.

“this is for you two”

Then she proceeded to start dividing her full buloghi. Knowing her limits she started with 4 precise cuts to separate the legs. Then she took some small chunks from almost each part of the creature head and nervous system excluded. Scilla immediately replied upon receiving the food for her and Wiola.

“was this your plan all along?”

“yes”—”yes” replied both Nuria and Idra.

“also you have to take this as well” said Idra pushing away what she discarded.

The over hyped Wiola accepted the gift without remorse.

“thanks Nuri, thanks Idra”

“Scilla you should learn from your sister and accept others good heart” continued Idra. Scilla replied with some teasing

“I’m honoured for your benevolence your majesty”

“fuck you”

the tense atmosphere was fading away little by little mostly thanks to the unique alchemy between the Esterian and Scilla.

At some point Wiola asked

“Idra, you took a piece of everything but no head or nerves. Are you sure you don’t want any?”

“yep. I don’t eat those part nor I eat bone marrow.”

“what?!?!” exclaimed the three Leans.

“is it strange?”

“from you. YES. You are a borderline cannibal and you don’t eat bone marrow? Why?” asked Scilla that knew her better and didn’t forgot the awkward ride in the elevator where she “admitted” to have eaten Lean’s flesh.

Idra was caught off guard. She never really give it a thought to what she doesn’t do and why. For her not eating the head and in particular the brain of any creature was something that she always did. Something that her people always did and will keep doing in the future.

“it’s… it’s like your memory thing. You deem it sacred right? In a similar way we honour life leaving what makes us conscious of our surrounding intact. So no brains or nervous tissues.”

“well that doesn’t explain the bone marrow” continued Scilla.

Idra had no explanation to why not eating bone marrow was almost an untold rule inside Esterian society so she tried to fix up some explanation but it was clear as the day that she had no idea.

“oh, well about… about the marrow, mmh ah yes… emh about it”

“we get it Idra. It’s your religion thing” tried to conclude Wiola. Being religious, as a Human would define it, was not a diffuse practice among Leans but neither it was banned. As long as the belief was not harmful it was fine. After all most Leans are partially religious believing in the importance of memory and graveyards even if they don’t see it as such. However acceptance of religious belief was not something that could be even remotely connected to the Esterians. Truth to be told Esterians were zealot oppressors of any sort of religion. Idra was no exception yet they kept peculiar behaviour that could be seen as religious. Irritated by Wiola’s assumption Idra slammed her firsts on the table and raised her angry voice.

“I’M. NOT. RELIGIOUS.”

“sorry I… I just assumed” replied Wiola in a timid tone while Scilla was not happy about her behaviour toward her sister.

“IDRA! Chill the fuck out. Don’t you dare get mad at Wiola again”

realising her mistake Idra put her shit together and after a long breath she spoke back.

“sorry Wiola. I didn’t mean to get that angry… but it’s nothing religion related. Religions are banned inside Esterian society.”

“it’s fine… I was being noisy”

“it’s not really fine, but thanks.”

“would you explain it to me so I won’t mistake again” continued Wiola in a gentle and soft tone. She was trying to make Idra feel at ease and her action worked.

“On paper we oppose all religions as we oppose to those that don’t believe in our views. For us science is all. Religions are the opposite of science and by definition can’t live along side. To be Esterians means to actively reject illusory beliefs and correct even with force those that are wrong. You don’t understand us but most of the time our insults are directed toward deities, your deities. We know of the beliefs of others and work to insult you and your faith. On the other hand we have a strong belief in science, the Founder and in nature. We don’t view it as religious behaviour because we don’t pray to imaginary stuff, well we don’t pray at all. We understand how important nature is. How impactful our Founder was and that discovery is the only meaning of life.”

Nuria interrupted. Idra’s view was not too far from hers because with time she moved toward the radical side of the Armori faction. They don’t try to destroy others faith but for sure they understand and protect nature.

“so like us!. I’m an Armori do you know our small faction?”

Idra stared back for a few seconds. She looked through her database to find some information about them. Indeed they were not too different but Esterians were not really about keeping the balance, they just acknowledge the existence of it.

“yes, I have some data on said Armori. We are alike yet different. We study and respect nature as we are part of it, but we don’t act to keep it balanced. We act to improve upon it. We select and modify life as we please…”

“well that’s not good. You are forcing nature for your purposes that will probably be about production improvement and usefulness for your kind.”

“can’t deny it. But what’s the purpose of life if not to improve itself? in fact what we try to improve is mostly ourselves. Why wait for nature to do it’s course?. Who has that many years? We don’t. So instead of keeping those unfit we force them to die”

Despite the first fight about eugenics Idra when back into it. This time with more explanations.

“we are not monster, we don’t terminate those that are defective. We kill only few of those, but mostly because errors were made during fabrication. Those that are alive are just blocked from building new kids. So their genetic failure won’t go on” Idra explanation showed a mismatch of information. She knew of genetic exchange yet she didn’t really understood how kids are made.

Nuria in a mix of admiration but also anger and confusion asked about Idra’s choice of words.

“what do you mean by error during fabrication? You mean at conception?”

“at what? I mean when you push the instruction into the assembly machine. Maybe you fucked up some values”

“no no no, the fuck are you talking about. Values? Assembly machine?”

“what the fuck are YOU speaking about. There is no conception, just an idea put on paper and then sent to the assembler.”

“huh? I’m speaking about uterus and normal reproduction. You know that thing when a dick gets into a pussy and makes a baby”

Idra’s mind went blank. There was no knowledge at all. Totally empty, no reference, no spelling, nothing. Just a series of words with no descriptions. Yet even without descriptions she had phrases and examples that she could use to “weaponise” such words into insult.

“what’s a dick?” replied confused Idra.

Her phrase floored both Nuria and Wiola while Scilla knowing about her ignorance just face palmed herself.

“what… what you mean what’s a dick?” exclaimed Wiola.

“it means exactly what it means.”

“how can you not know? You love to use cock sucker or dickhead and you don’t know what those words means?”

“they are insults, what else should they mean?” Idra was confused but it was not her fault. She was desperately searching all her memory looking for a definition that was not present.

“Idra look at me in the eyes. Head means?”

“that thing attached to your neck”

“ok, than dick means?”

“don’t know”

“aah fuck. What is your definition of dickhead?”

Idra was growing more and more confused as the word she was asked to define had no meaning, only uses.

“Dickhead. Meaning: none. Use: insult toward intelligent creature. Target intellect of creature. Use to insinuate a diminish of intellect power below intelligible values. That’s it”

Wiola’s and Nuria’s jaws were open in disbelief. How could it be possible.

“wait, and your definition of cock sucker?” proceeded again Wiola.

“Meaning: none. Use: insult toward both males and females creatures. More effective toward females. Insinuate homosexual relationships in males, depending on society could be more impactful.”

now it was time for Nuria to go in with her rough manners and not really accurate descriptions.

“fuck this shit. Here is your definition. A dick is the male reproductive organ. It’s a fucking rod of flesh that piss out sperm when excited. Got it?”

But Idra was inhumanely immobile. She didn’t move for several embarrassing seconds then replied.

“so? Why are you not speaking? I’m waiting for the definition”

“are you fucking with me? I just told you.” said Nuria growing confused and a bit angry.

“but you didn’t speak at all how…”

“wait!” intrude Scilla. She tapped on her heck while looking at Idra.

“fuck. So it’s not achievable even in this way? Why is it so hard to have a definition.”

the other Leans were confused.

“what is happening?” asked Wiola.

“can I tell them Idra?” said Scilla.

“I thrust you will convey the truth right?” that was a polite way to make sure that Scilla was going to lie. She obviously got the hint.

“so Esterians soldiers have a chip implanted that cuts away sexual knowledge and to some extent even desire. This is done to improve their focus on their missions. Idra as a soldier has the same chip. She was trying to see the boundary of said system and as we saw it works perfectly fine”

That’s a really good lie. Guess we are really meant for each other.

“what inhuman shit is this!” yelled Nuria forgetting to control her voice.

“yeah. How could they do such thing to their own people. To you” continued Wiola sympathizing with Idra. Idra herself however didn’t have much of a problem. After all reality was that said “chip” was only installed on Idras and just blocked knowledge, nothing else. Why they placed it was a different story but as far as she knew the chip will stop working when interacting with her partner.

“it’s not really a problem. Sacrifices are necessary for our homeland. As long as we serve it’s better to have maximum focus, then we can build our life afterward.”

“that shit still sucks” replied Nuria disconsolate.

Their no longer so funny meal reached its end and soon after their attention was attracted toward the sound of an engine coming from outside. It was Paz Ibarra coming back from the fields. The group walked outside to see a large old tractor stopping in the open space just beside the farmhouse. The tractor was not in good conditions, quite the opposite. It was a hybrid between combustion and electrical engine, but none of them sounded right. An old woman dismounted slowly from the tractor cabin. She has seen better days as well as her equipment yet she was working non stop.

“Nuri you didn’t told me we were having guests” started Paz looking at them. She didn’t let her grandchild answer and immediately moved closer to hug both Lises.

“How is it going gals, and who’s this midget here?” looking at Idra. Paz exactly as Nuria was bigger than the both sisters and Idra.

“we are good granny Paza” said Wiola.

“I’m Idra 511 Weeping Sky from the Esterian Tech-Union but I won’t be surprised if you don’t know about us”

“oh, how could I not know about the faceless. Your people are perfect to keep away sprogs from my fields. That ship yours? What is it a bomber?”

“you have keen eyes. It’s an NDU, the last one in service. On paper it’s an incursion stealth bomber. In reality a scavenger ship”

“so you are the kid from the Hakavor incident”

“indeed. Someone reads the news paper.”

Without more questions, Paz turned to Nuria.

“Nuri how much money do we have saved so far?”

“why?” replied the grandchild.

“the tractor is getting worst, don’t think it will survive long without a new engine, at least a new combustion one.”

“fuck. I have to check but I…”

“can I try to fix it?” intrude Idra as all eyes moved on her.

“do you know what to do faceless kid?” ask Paz

“first I’m no kid. I’m 26. second I do my own maintenance and repair on the NDU. A primitive tractor is no big deal”

“I saw you doing some maintenance work on your ship, but do you also repair it. Why?” said Scilla.

“because I’m the only one alive that knows how to. And it’s also funny”

“I get your strange sense of fun but I always wondered why did you not built more NDU? Why not teach others about the repair process?” continued Scilla.

“the answer is fairly simple as It’s the same as why you don’t see more suits like mine. However if I told you then I will have to murder you all, parents, cousins and more included. I’m already having fun with the pests in the woods, I will torture you in the future”

“what the fuck” exclaimed Nuria.

“don’t worry, she is joking. I mean she won’t kill us in the future. The part about being a secret worth murder is real” explained Scilla.

“thanks, so can I fix this tractor?” continued Idra.

“ok, but if you break it for good you have to buy us a new one” Paz, for some reason had a feeling that she was not going to regret her decision. After all Idra appear to be more than capable for the task.

“sure. Then I’ll get to work”.

Received the authorization Idra moved to the tractor, she climbed the ladder into the driver seat and opened the tractor hood to have access to the engines. She got down and faced the first problem, her height.

Tractors are massive compared to their drivers, they are even more massive if instead of the usual driving species you are half a meter shorter. Everything was out of reach for her and so she turned to her unaware helper, Scilla.

“Scilla… could you… well lift me up? I can’t reach it”

“I guess I could, but should I?” Scilla’s tone was higher then usual. She was already laughing in her mind. Teasing your partner is such a stupid thing, yet so effective. A relationship that can’t withstand such constant lack of neurons is not worth keeping.

“will your highness help such damsel is distress to get to the engine please?”

As always they were the only two having a laugh about it. Wiola was getting used to Idra being peaceful toward her, but for the Ibarras the scene was unthinkable. Especially Paz that saw the images of the Hakavor HQ encounter. She couldn’t believe that such terrifying creature was cracking jokes and teasing with Scilla.

To allow better mobility Scilla grabbed Idra by her legs and lifted her up. This way she could bend over the engines and move around more easily. She started with the left side of the combustion engine, it was the one that all the group could see. Her suit goo extended in multiple threats like wires that, along the armlet probing system, started scanning the engine.

“do you know what you are doing?” asked Scilla. As she knew Idra had no real experience with “primitive” technology such as chemical weapons. So it was probable that she never worked on a combustion engine.

“of course not. Shit like this isn’t being around for centuries. But it should not be that hard. I can fix a reactor so I can also fix this thing”

After more scanning Idra started working on the engine. The suit goo, mixed with the Whispers, was sipping through the engine. Without anybody notice Idra ordered the Whispers to regenerate damaged components such as seals, spark plugs and so on. She removed corroded elements, replenish insulating materials and regenerate consumed elements. It was her first time ordering the Whispers to do their second function, build. No real idea how they could make material appear out of nowhere, nor how they were able to connect it perfectly to the damaged one. Still they were doing their job.

After several minutes of operation Idra turned to her lifting companion.

“this side is done. Take me down and then we will do the other”

“hai hai boss.”

“stop it or I won’t let your arm rest”

Scilla lowered Idra that was now back in contact with the ground.

“even when in your suit you are not that heavy. I mean our fat-ass suits are still heavier”

“are you calling me fat?” replied immediately Idra with a playful tone.

“yes, you’re so fat that you have to check the door size of each building you go to. You know in case you don’t fit through”

“well then, you’re so fat that when you get into an elevator you have to be careful not to surpass the weight limit”

“you’re so fat that if you have to cross a bridge you have to call the city hall to authorize a special transport”

“you’re so fat than when you took a photo the system overflows”

“you’re so fat that when you get out of bed the planet changes orbit”

“you’re so fat to have your own orbit”

after their probably too long exchange they had a laugh and moved to the other side of the tractor. Now Scilla was totally concealed from Paz, Nuria and Wiola. Idra was only partially hidden as she was being lifted up again.

“can you lower me a bit?”

“yeah sure”

“a bit more, the engine is asymmetrical and I can’t really reach inside. Too far from the suit”

“well, I’ll lower you slowly. Tell me when to stop”

“… STOP!”

The new position reached was optimal for beauty admiration. Scilla’s eyes were perfectly in level with Idra’s butt. She was for sure happy about it, but such happiness was going to soon become embarrassment.

oh, I’m not gonna complain for such view. This must be my lucky day… wait… why is she getting closer...wait, wait wait.

To perform her task Idra was moving around and what initially was a close but still acceptable distance from her butt, was getting shorter and shorter. They reach a point were Scilla’s face was almost in contact with the suit, just a millimetre away from touching. Idra was not really paying attention to her surrounding as she was focused on her “funny repairing”, so she had no clue of what she was doing. Scilla was both happy and embarrassed. She was for sure enjoining the moment but at the same time regretting it as it was a bit too exiting for her.

Why universe, why are you doing this to me. How the fuck am I suppose to keep my dick inside when she is fucking rubbing her ass on my face. I can’t even turn my head or my nose will hit her ass cheeks.

How amusing. Her thoughts were met with coldness, an endless and freezing one. The universe was silent, cold and empty. It was always silent, always cold, and almost always empty. Systems can’t observe. They just exist. No universe was toying with her, but it didn’t felt that way.

Not much later Idra finished her reconstruction work and pulled back from the engine. Her movement resulted in her ass pressing against Scilla’s face. This time she sensed it. She turned to see her positioning mistake and apologise without much thinking.

“oh fuck. Sorry. I didn’t mean to butt shot you”

Scilla, that had already reached her limit, lowered Idra to the ground.

“sorry, I have to go. I’ll be back”

Idra couldn’t even turn that Scilla had already ran away toward the farmhouse bathroom. None saw a massive bulge on her pants.

“Scilla?” as predictable Idra was confused so she walked toward the group that had seen Scilla running away as well.

“this something happen?” asked Wiola.

“don’t know. I was about to ask you three. Just after I finished with the repair she put me down and run away”

“did she said something?” continued Wiola.

“no, just that she was sorry and had to go. I’m not familiar with your intestinal structure, but maybe she had to use the bathroom. Some time ago she told me that you digest fast”

“don’t know. I will go and ask her”. Wiola then proceeded to walk toward the farmhouse leaving Idra with the Ibarras.

“so, what are you waiting for granny. Go up there and turn this tractor on.”

“what an impatient girl” replied Paz.

“well duh. Of course I’m impatient, I want to know if my work repaired your engine”

Paz climbed into the driving seat and started the engine. A totally new sound diffused in the air. The tractor was back to life as if it was brand new.

“WHAT THE FUCK!”.

Paz excitement was uncontainable.

“this is amazing. Guess we don’t have to buy a new one. Nuri treat her with absolute respect. She is our quest now”

“yes grandma, I was already treating her well.”

“well treat her better. She saved us a lot of money. Now let me take my Bezzi on a ride”

“sure, get back for dinner”

“your granny seems to like it” said Idra.

“of course. That tractor is being in our farm for generations. Never let us down. Thanks for making her happy”

Idra just nodded. She was not understanding what was happening. For her playing with the engine and fixing it was the best part.

“Let’s go in, I’ll make you something fresh to drink and we will check on your bestie Scilla”

“ok”.
