The Unknown - Vanessa

The air was ice cold, my sword glistened with frost. Slowly I readied my self to sprint at what ever was coming our way.

“This isn’t normal.” Chase stood beside me ready to guard the people behind us with his life. My only care was the little dwarf boy and the other children. Children deserve to grow up happy and free, not in constant fear.

“What is it?” My eyes scanned the tree line watching for any movement.

“I don’t know, I have only seen goblins come this way.” His sword was trembling. I glanced down at mine. I was scared to.

My instincts yelled for me to get out of there, but I didn’t listen.

People started pouring out of the forest running our way.

My view was blocked by the amount of them. Their number was well over a hundred.

Chase moved forward and stood with his sword behind him ready to sprint forward through the group. I ran to circle them.

It was getting colder.

I glanced and thought I had recognized two of the people but there was no way they would be running like this.

The last man left the forest. He was covered in blood and looked spent.

The spear in his had shined like glass as he ran.

He stopped running when he saw Chase emerge from the crowd. The people were now all behind Chase. In the safest spot around.

The man turned from where he was and caught sight of me.

Arrows started raining down from the edge of the field. The man had judged the distance where the arrows would hit perfectly.

He back peddled towards chase a few more steps then stood there.

His spear shattered and he took a knee.

The goblins were not like any of the goblins I had seen before. Their skin was black and they held cheap bows.

There was a lot of them. All of them focused their shots on the ice man.

Chase moved up beside the man and brought out a giant metal door and placed it in front of the man. The door was pierced by the arrows but none of them went all the way through.

The goblins didn't notice me until it was too late. One by one they started meeting their maker as their black heads were severed from their bodies.

They started shouting and pushing past each other as I twisted my blade and mowed them down.

The goblins before me had dropped their bows in favor of running away. I couldn't let that happen.

Something blue streaked out past me. The goblin I was attacking had somehow grown a blue horn. My sword never stopped although I couldn't help but think it was strange.

More of the goblins ahead of me sprouted the blue horns. Each one started to fall as the horns appeared. I stood there and looked close at one of the horns. It was cold to the touch.

"Humph!" I glared over at the man who was with Chase.

Ty stood there drinking a small bottle of blue juice while pointing at something. He was laughing.

I followed his gaze and found the object he was laughing at. I started to walk forward towards it.

I couldn't fight back the laughter any longer.

I knew that some of the goblins were probably running away now but I couldn't help it. This was too much.

My sides ached as I stepped over the corpses finally meeting up with the other two.
