(I wonder how my mother is doing?) I haven’t seen her at all since I got the job, nor have I talked to her after the discussion of the job interview. It’s not like we don’t get along, It’s just that she’s always busy with her work and especially since I got my job we just haven’t found much time to talk. But it’s been like this for as long as I can remember.
My dad left us when I was around 5, and didn’t ever try to contact us again. Since then, my mother had to get overtime a lot, leaving me alone a lot of the time, though I didn’t mind, I liked being able to be left to my own devices. So we haven’t exactly been the closest family ever.
“Sir, we’re here” the driver says, I jolt my head up to look out the window, I look at the driver “sorry, lost in thought” I pay him and open the door. I step onto the sidewalk and look back into the vehicle to make sure I didn’t leave anything. “Bye” I say as I close the door and the driver pulls out of the parking space.
I turn towards the restaurant (quite the cosy place) there’s a few tables outside with umbrellas over them, the inside was like the generic style of any fast food place, counter for order and pick-up with booths and tables out in front of the counter. I order some buffalo wings and barbeque chicken, then find a nice place outside (the cool air should combat the wings nicely) and wait for my order. They bring me my food and I eat it within around 10 minutes while I admire the neighborhood.
(I think the first thing I want to check out is the University here) the University has a big library that the public has access to, but it’s not like i’m going to be borrowing any books, I just want to check it out. I pull my phone out for directions, 12:30 and it’ll take around 10 minutes to get there, that should give me a bit of time to read some. I stand up and dump my trash.

I walk up the steps to the library’s doors and look at the plaque on the wall next to them. (Let’s see, Saturday… 10am-5:30pm) I look at my watch, 12:45, I have a little under 5 hours nice. I stroll in through the doors and notice the receptionist desk empty, (mmm, guess their own lunch break) I continue in, time to find a book to read.
This library isn’t the most grand of places, but it is still pretty big, there isn’t a second story but it is quite long in width. I walk over to the Fiction section to find a nice Science Fiction book, I read enough reports of the real world that I want to read something a little imaginative at the moment. I search through the shelves for a few minutes until I happen upon a decent size book about the zombie apocalypse. I pluck it out of it’s spot on the shelf and walk over to some comfy looking couches.
There’s hardly 10 people milling around in the library so I plunk down on the couch and lay back, careful not to put my feet onto it, I would probably get yelled at for that. It is surprising that hardly anyone is here, I guess people don’t want to study on their off time. And so I open my book and get sucked into the world of the zombie apocalypse.
I start to feel thirsty and looked at my watch, 3:56 (wow, didn’t realize that much time went past). I placed the book next to me and got up from the couch and went in search for a fountain, found it by the restrooms. I got my drink and started back to the couches, looking at my watch (hmm, it’s just about 4, I really doubt i’ll be able to see, but just to satisfy my curiosity), I walk to the door and out onto the stairs, I look to the horizon on my east, the landscape it fairly flat except for a small mountain.
A minute passes, nothing (yeah, didn’t think so), I turn back towards the doors. A faint flash bounces off the building.
